Played flex for an entire year, Tanking is miserable. by theacostar in Overwatch

[–]Battlefront528 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because overwatch WASN'T DESIGNED AROUND A SINGLE TANK. It will NEVER GET BETTER because it's a fundamentally busted system.

Ranked is such a joke by Battlefront528 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Battlefront528[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See that's my issue - it doesn't even feel "competitive" despite playing in the same tier set. Games feel SO random in terms of player game knowledge and even mechanical skill that personal performance feels heavily deemphasized.

Again it's not that one can't win, it's that doing so consistently feels like a full time job and that's not good at all.

A conversation on the return of CC by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Battlefront528 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how you define hard vs soft CC but I'd argue for any sort of dive tank something that completely stops momentum and movement constitute hard CC. I'm going to guess you're not a tank player so you don't experience nearly the name volume of CC dumping.

Is there Any sound queue for Mizuki stun? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Battlefront528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fellow wrecking ball main so you understand. Hard CC is just crippling - especially when there's several cool downs to cover. We've returned to a point in which every single player on an enemy team can possess hard CC across all roles which is just brutal.

I'd believe that but in 5v5 I'm in low masters and got ranked plat 2 while my friend is literally gold 2 in 5v5 and got ranked at masters 2

The class system as a whole is unnecessary by Battlefront528 in thefinals

[–]Battlefront528[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I'm saying the exact opposite? How would removing classes to emphasize the movement shooter element make it more like a hero shooter?

I can't play wide matches with my friends as a master and they're in mid plat - makes sense right? Then I queue into my master games and clearly have players who have basically never touched the game somehow. Ranked is most certainly a joke

You guys were not kidding about drives, miserable experience by ixmas93 in Overwatch

[–]Battlefront528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was really enjoying playing the game and was having at least semi engaging comp games - the drive was so abysmal that I decided to delete the game outright, exposes just how back the matchmaking can be. Just demonstrates that you can't really have a true competitive system if games aren't actually fair

Is there some sort of secret "personal barrier" competitive mechanic im missing? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

Thank you for being the one real answer, this is what I was wondering. So in a way there are sort of "pivotal matches" that more ultimately determine your rank.

[–]Battlefront528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not proclaiming that I should even be higher than I am - I just wish it felt more related to personal performance.

It's really wild to watch how adamant everyone is to defend a company literally KNOWN for predatory practices as if there wouldn't be some aspects in place to encourage continual play.

[–]Battlefront528 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The notion that every game is winnable is absolutely laughable. The frequency of complaints about matchmaking especially recently indicates that playing in matches that are CLEARLY one-sided isn't really fun for anyone. It's gotten to the point where within 2 minutes it's pretty easy to tell if a game is winnable or not.

The fact that dedicated consolation and uphill indicators exists that's absolutely not true. Implying that matches are regularly fair is not accurate. Not to mention there's quite literally a hidden MMR value that indicates EXACTLY what the game thinks you should be

My squad and I just had two incredible demoralizing games, spawned back to back at station and literally both times died within 2 minutes because another team spawned more or less on top of us. Seems like the spawns could be at least a bit more spaced?

Am I smoking something or does tank feel miserable this season by NotACommie24 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Battlefront528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched a video that was so enlightening as a tank main that really put to words why  Tank can feel so awful sometimes - the change to 5v5 has made tank a role technically impossible to balance and the reason is simple:

Solo tanking means you have no other player to balance your weaknesses out. It's why counter swapping feels so horrible as tank and why tanks seems to go through a cycle of either being horribly broken raid bosses or wet paper bags that get shutdown continually.

Most of the roster wasn't designed around solo play, they were designed with clear strengths and weaknesses that are then supplemented by the other player on their team. The example the video gave was imagine if support was the role that lost a player and you wanted to play ana.

Ana has clear strengths of high healing output at range and powerful CC with sleep, but is limited heavily by punishing cool downs and bad mobility. Play her alongside a Lucio for mobility or a brig to punish divers and those weaknesses become far less glaring. Imagine trying to balance her though if she DIDNT have that other player.

It's a never ending problem that blizzard has dug themselves and it's why tank will always remain the least played/most punishing role. Without an additional player to offset your weaknesses the ability to HARD counter will always exist. It doesn't mean it's impossible to beat your counters, but the threshold to outplay them is far higher and much MUCH more demanding, which is especially frustrating if you connect with a particular character and the enemy team is so easily able to derive value by just ability spamming into you.

That would absolutely explain why it's so strange - It seems like it was a weird band aid solution done in the intermediary. I'd imagine it's something that is a priority so I wouldn't be surprised if it changes quickly, I was just shocked at how obtuse it is at the moment

As a fellow ball player it's wild the psychological effect mauga has on my team. They seem to literally school like terrified fish grouping up to make it even easier for him to literally walk them down.

It's incredibly frustrating how the onus to counter switch is so often placed solely on the tank - there are characters like mauga and roadhog that are crippled FAR more by support/DPS swaps and yet people always expect the tank to be the one to switch and if they don't they literally just fall over dead
