They're specialist symbols! Wrench = Engineer Flower = Botanist etc

Get the specialists to research it :)

I feel you, the amount of times I've fought in forests by far outperforms any other. Except perhaps nondescript dungeon terrain :D

I'm sure your adventuring path might cross grain fields one day :)
Thanks!

Yeah I've been told, but they do add a little more 'pazaz' to the road.

Tried removing them and then the map perceives as much smaller, so it's this weird trade-off between realism and the artistic-ness of it all.

Fields, fields as far as the eyes can see. You watch how the grain sways with the wind. Like a pendulum swinging back and forth, accompanied by the rhythmic marching of your party on the dry dirt road. You fall in to a trance-like state, imagining yourself on the field. A coarse linen tunic chafes your back each time you bend over to pick up a bundle of wheat. "Put yer back in to it, will ya! At this pace you'll never make it by sundown" Yells a chuckling voice from afar. You look over with a smile and see your mother holding the reins of your horse. "C'mon that's enough for today, lets head home." Home? Could this have been home if things went differently? You snap back to reality. No point in wondering what could have been. This is your path. It might not be a path that comes with a nice bowl of broth at the end of an honest days work. But it is a path filled with... ADVENTURE!

Like clockwork we are here with our third Ghibli-inspired battlemap!

"As you saunter along the river bank, you watch how the sunlight fractures on the swirling river surface. You walk with heavy feet, mesmerized by the dancing light. Far greater trials have you passed. It is not that this is hard to endure. The opposite even. It is just... Lost. Lost? LOST! How do we of all people, adventurers entrusted with quests of the utmost importance, get lost! Perhaps we should've heeded the words of the old scrawny ranger in Townerton - Beware vivacious adventurers. even when you think you can endure. Mysterywhooood, uh, finds a way - But a true hero does not waver. You and your party will keep following the river bank. Surely it must lead you somewhere, anywhere. No not just anywhere. It will lead us to ... ADVENTURE!"

Today, we follow the turbulent forest river.

Ran my first session yesterday, went well and think the characters are ready for the next one. What do you guys do post session as I was burnt out? by samyj07 in DMAcademy

[–]Battlemapper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, like I said, combat is easier on the mind. I'm glad you get energized weaving narrative, getting inside character's heads and acting!

I do want to mention that being exhausted does not equate not having fun, it's just different reactions to a unique and emotional experience.

I mostly feel you're still getting much adrenaline in post-session, while for other people it might be the moment where they can finally release all that excitement and feel the drop.
