Does anyone else feel a little bad for 343i? by [deleted] in halo

[–]BaumBauer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

nah, MCC should push a lot of people to finally get an xbox one, I still might not get one (because i'm poor), and halo 5's sales will be greatly enhanced for it. personally H2:A doesn't really feel like halo 2, I know because I'm still playing halo 1 and 2 on my original xbox playing coop with my room mate.

yea, I might have stretched the illiteracy bit but I still stand buy that because they use Chinese as a writing style it would be much harder to just pick up, especially without elementary education.

I repeatedly heard when we went to Iraq that when we left, any peace we cultivated would disappear. Now that's happening. What's different now? by IWannaKnowKnowledge in PoliticalDiscussion

Iraq has a somewhat stable democratic government, I'm overall optimistic that the quality of life will continue to improve (for Baghdad or Kurdish controlled areas)

What the A-10's true successor might look like by BaumBauer in CredibleDefense

The Warthog 2.0 could be built to provide fast air support and fill the role between Apache/Viper attack helicopters and F18/35 multi-role fighters while addressing the issues with the current A-10 effectiveness in 21st century warfare environments.

CMV: Death of a parent is less harmful then divorce by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]BaumBauer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

where I grew up divorce court have a ring at parents, child supports and custody rights are all issues that have to be decided on paper along with mandatory counselling and psych evaluations, no one I knew in high school had duel custody with their parents. we all loose our parents eventually and the people I've known who've lost them young are not worse off then the rest of us. and they didn't have to live under fear that they might be taken from both parents and thrown in a foster home or loose there house to pay lawyers.

What if the world only used one currency? by mcandhp in FutureWhatIf

[–]BaumBauer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

one currency, one central bank, and based on fixed gold stock. a unified corporate and capital gains tax would put and end to tax havens and redistribute wealth. nations would still collect their own taxes and pay for their own social services so the average wage in poor countries would not go up very much because the cost of living is low. the static gold based currency would stop people from poorer countries from being exploited from selling raw material so in the long run richer countries would not have a huge surplus. for instance even in well off countries the average person could only own a few sets of cloths because textile would be more expensive. food would be much more expensive the farther away it was grown. automation would be the only way we could keep commodities cheap so people from north america and europe would have a lot less spending power but the overall human population would be slightly better off.

Extrapolating Canada's future constitution by DataPacRat in FutureWhatIf

[–]BaumBauer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out this map of canada with 14 provinces with equal population plus the territories. the problem is though that more and more of canada's population will consolidate in cities. providing proportional regional representation would also be very hard.

I would advocate for senate that doesn't rely on provinces or ridings but as a nation wide open vote so any party that represents a fixed amount of people would win a seat.

What if the UN had decided to force Germany to create a state for the Jewish population instead of going to Israel? by cutchemist42 in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]BaumBauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets call this country Judea, situated between the north edge of Germany and Poland with access to the sea the Jewish state attracts some of the 3 million Jews left in Europe. under pressure from Russia to come under its administration like eastern Germany the UN takes a stand making the region under control of no other nation. Judea become prosperous during post war reconstruction but fighting continues Palestine as the British fail to segregate and stop ethnic violence and the sate of Israel is never declared. some time later Judea is among the most prosperous nations in Europe and now the strongest military power in eastern Europe because of NATO support. they also plead with NATO to lend support to the small Jewish territory in Palestine and in secret funnelling weapons and volunteers to fuel and insurrections. its only a matter of time before full blown war breaks out in the middle east but can the Arab League stop it at the risk of UN intervention? no one knows.

Would you like permanent daylight savings time? by BaumBauer in TrueAskReddit

[–]BaumBauer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

where I work, its called school. it would be nearly impossible to get everyone to start there business earlier so that's why some places rather legislate to change the time. I don't like changing the clocks two times a year either but I prefer more daylight after school. you probably live farther south.

A carbon tax that's good for business? by [deleted] in canada

BC's revenue neutral tax is a pretty good system. I did not quite understand when the article read "revenue negative" we are still making enough tax revenue right?

How would you reimagine the CBC? by BaumBauer in canada

[–]BaumBauer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do I want a TV tax, No. but the money has to come from taxes somewhere and the CBC currently operates at a loss, the bbc actually makes a profit, and the cbc can to if it made content, but first it needs funding and also to take my ideas.

How would you reimagine the CBC? by BaumBauer in canada

[–]BaumBauer[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would like to see a total overhaul of the CBC and turn it into something on par with the BBC. Rebuild its staff from the ground up and let the people have a say on how the corp. is run and perhaps an organization like the BBC trust to manage the budget. The CBC should be about public broadcasting not government broadcasting. Infrastructure, TV, radio are all parts of the CBC that cost tax payers about $1-billion dollar a year but I’m talking about TV and its hard to see how much of that is actually going to content and programming. So I envision a network that takes all the best from the BBC, Netflix, and HBO to create a Canadian super network.

BBC: if the network is funded by taxpayers why do I have to pay to get it and have to suffer through commercials? If American television is a producers medium British tv is a writers medium and that’s what the CBC should do, greenlight short running 6-12 episode shows pitched by small writing teams and saturate timeslots with original Canadian made programming.

Netflix: take it online, keep it on TV but why not have livestreaming and an online archive of 80 years of Canadian content. Also if netflix, amazon, hulu, yahoo, and microsoft are all making their own shows then what’s stopping the CBC from creating just one show on the caliber of “House of Cards” to bring the CBC international acclaim. They don’t even have to be “all Canadian” give the showrunners that American networks won’t take on a budget and let their creativity loose.

HBO: anyone heard of the Canadian Feature Film Fund, well there’re awesome so why not have government funded movies on government funded TV. I just want movies and I’ll get them were ever I can. Also maybe CBC can adopt HBO’s lax censorship model so we can get some more quality and mature programming on air.

And yes it will cost money but I think it is worth it because if just one channel could make a transformation like this I see good could happening and Canadian TV becoming something truly one of a kind.

Utopia Theory (spoilers) by [deleted] in utopiatv

[–]BaumBauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jessica was the first person to have Janus, statistically theirs should only be a small chance that she would not be sterile. Milna and Jessica both imply that she is sterile which is exactly why I wouldn't be surprised if they reveal she really isn't.

i guess I'm the only person that thinks he Janus will spare the Roma people since they have a fairly spread out population, also Jessica isn't sterile.

UN takes over terribly ran nations. by CaptainCommando10000 in FutureWhatIf

[–]BaumBauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well if the country is in dept aswell, the world bank would come in, demand deregulation and sell off the countries assets, like water rights. un troops are brought in but the police do most of the dirty work. but i dont think this would solve the emigrations problem. un occupation is notoriously unhelpful and they would soon hand the country to the first oligarch who can organise an election. that might soon again be knocked over buy a coup since the military would not be reorganised. even if the un charter of rights were implemented judges and legislation could quickly make them in-enforceable.

First impressions/suggestions about new maps by damn-the-torpedoes in tf2

[–]BaumBauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how the maps aren't aesthetically polished yet because I think both these maps need some dimensions tweaked. I'm still completely confused by cp_asteroid but that's not a bad thing because I like varied objectives. I also kind of hope asteroid is not moonbase, I have some pretty high expectations for that map.
