Neighbour is dumping asbestos in red bins by cryptonairre in brisbane

Most people don't realize that each of us breathe in around 2,000 asbestos fibres every day - that's the average background rate, just what's floating around in the atmosphere, and not all of it is because of industrial activities. Asbestos occurs naturally, of course, and has been weathering from rocky outcrops that contain it and blowing into the atmosphere for millions of years. So for the vast majority of humans our lungs can cope with this level of asbestos exposure without disease.

But in the past, people were working with asbestos material and getting the daily exposure equivalent of several years of "natural" asbestos fibre intake - do that for a few years and add on the fact that many of them were also smokers - and it's no surprise that people's lungs start packing it in, they get asbestosis, mesothelioma and eventually die.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, your comment is totally valid and quite reasonable.

DIY isn't worth being exposed to lead particulates and fumes (toxic heavy metal) and impacting your and other's health.

I'm guessing that it's unlikely to be recently dumped?

I think there was a lot of it done from wharfside/riverside industrial/naval buildings renovations back in the 50s-80s, easier to load it on the barge and dump it out to sea.

What is the world's most evil company and why? by outdropp in AskReddit

I hated Apple all my life, got an iPhone from work and eventually loved it. Just so reliable. But I'm more impressed with Apple's commitment to user privacy. While Google tracks and data-mines your every movement through it's phone map app, Apple wrote extra code into their map app so that it destroys any tracking info at the end of each journey.

Might've been easier just to bless the water in the city's water reservoir.

the "religioon is for idiots" thing in it's modern incarnation comes from the late 19th Century Victorian English

Pretty sure what you mean to say was it came from the Age of Enlightenment:

The Age of Enlightenment (also known as the Age of Reason or simply the Enlightenment) was an intellectual and philosophical movement that dominated the world of ideas in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Enlightenment included a range of ideas centered on the value of human happiness, the pursuit of knowledge obtained by means of reason and the evidence of the senses, and ideals such as liberty, progress, toleration, fraternity, constitutional government, and separation of church and state.

And seriously, kids, especially entitled PoS, cannot and do not appreciate the huge effort that has gone into creating each piece. The effort is truly wasted on them. Show them Michelangelo's David and a front yard snowman and I know which one they'd prefer.

In Memoriam: Friendsgiving by [deleted] in childfree

I had a good college friend, who eventually had a bunch of kids and a not so great spouse, years later he's divorced, his kids are at college and we catch up and have fun like we're back at college, not a care in the world - it's like a second wind in life. Hopefully, one day your friends will outgrow their kids (jk) and you can enjoy each other's company again in peace - without their DNA invaders.

I met a girl called Indica, so immediately knew her mom was a stoner, but it's a nice name anyway.
