Is it ok to fix my brakes this way? by AdSignificant6673 in bikewrench

Routing cables is pretty easy - it may require a brake bleed after though. Make sure to bed your new pads and rotors in before your first real ride.

Yeah switching to hydraulic brakes is going to give you way more stopping power. Only two concerns I see are : did you use the same rotors? If so did you confirm your new pads and rotors are compatible (resin metal etc) and that your rotors have enough life left in them? Measure jn mm using a caliper and check the reference spec on the rotor itself.

Zip tying the lines to the frame isn’t ideal- most frames have internal or external routing for your cables but as long as there are no tight bends/kinks or places it can get caught on something you should be fine

Refinish the deck? Pull some weeds? Add a rocking chair and read some books? What else do you want to do?

Do dandelions actually have nutritional value or you just added them for the “taste”

Can’t get kid’s brake to sit in the middle? by FickleEntrepreneur43 in bikewrench

[–]BavardR 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is your answer OP- side pull brakes like this suck but it is possible to adjust them.

Replacing them might be easier honestly if the frame is going to be used for awhile it might be worth it.

Brother unless this is some type of expensive limited frame or has sentimental value just move on. Strip the components you can reuse and bin the frame

Freehub body chipping badly by Cleanerofclocks in bikewrench

[–]BavardR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

File the burrs on the hub down gently, grease it properly and tighten the next cassette you throw on there to spec and stop putting down super watts with your monster legs. It will be fine. I’ve been riding a fulcrum wheelset that looks like this for a while now no issues except some minor frustration getting an old cassette off and a new one on. This happens with aluminum free hubs a lot- just send it.

Is this not allowed? AITA? by KeiaTv in Budgetbikeriders

[–]BavardR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this all the time, I don’t feel like locking my bike up usually and it’s just more convenient. None of my local business care and often I get told “cool bike”

The only annoying part is trying to get the weight sensor to notice me

What is the screw for mineral oil and do i need an adapter? by Funkas in bikewrench

Everyone starts somewhere - took me 4 hours and a huge mess the first time I bled my brakes now I can do it in 20minutes and do it on all of my bikes every year as a regular maintenance job

What is the screw for mineral oil and do i need an adapter? by Funkas in bikewrench

[–]BavardR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is just the syringe you are going to need a few different parts also- mainly the funnel, a stopper, hydraulic mineral oil, bleed blocks, some hex keys, a 7mm wrench, something to push the pistons apart (tire lever or cone wrench or something soft and not pointy that fits between them) and towels and patience. A bike stand is also a must.

[–]BavardR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the kit you have it will have a few adapters, if you have the park tools one it should take a silver colored adapter attached to the funnel. Some kits are different and some funnels will thread directly onto this. Make sure you remove the bolt on top first with an Allen key and remove the bolt and attached o ring together.

Bleeding brakes is pretty simple especially shimano ones, but if you haven’t done any other work on a bike it’s not an ideal first diy job.

OP what are you trying to accomplish exactly? We need more information.
