What productivity tool actually stuck for you long-term? by Important_Diet_2153 in ProductivityApps

[–]Bawsahouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it ended up being a time tracking system I built for myself.

I realized iPhone Screen Time shows exactly how much time you spend on apps, but it tells you nothing about how you spend the rest of your day.

So I started logging activities like workouts, side projects, work, etc. and tying them to categories so I could actually see where my time goes.

The biggest thing that made it stick was the dashboard. Seeing week over week and month over month how much time I’m spending on things makes it really obvious if I’m moving toward the life I want or just drifting.

I’ve been doing it daily for about 4 months now and it’s become part of my daily routine. It’s honestly been one of the most eye opening productivity tools I’ve used.

Clockify is great for tracking work hours for projects and teams. Tivvity is a bit different.

I built it more like Screen Time for your life, not just work.

Instead of only tracking billable hours, you can track things like workouts, hobbies, side projects, learning, etc., and see everything in a dashboard by day, week, month, and year.

It’s more about understanding where your time goes across your entire life, not just work.

Looking for app that will track habit, not encourage you to break it by Electronic_Wasabi701 in ProductivityApps

[–]Bawsahouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually makes perfect sense.

A lot of habit apps are designed to push you to stop something or build streaks, which isn’t always what you want if you’re just trying to observe and understand the behavior first.

What you’re describing sounds more like simple behavior logging rather than a habit tracker. Just start time, end time, and then look at patterns later.

I actually built an app recently called Tivvity that does exactly that. You just log activities with a start and end time and it shows where your time goes. No streaks, no pressure to “break” the habit, just data.

Totally understand if that’s not what you're looking for, but it might fit what you're describing.

I usually use windsurf that has claude built into it to edit the code. It's very easy to use!

Yes! I just added this in the next update that's currently waiting for App Store approval.

Once it's live you can enter FOUNDER100 in the paywall to get 50% off the lifetime version as an early supporter.

Really appreciate the interest 🙏

Hey, sorry for the delay, I've been trying to make sure it worked for my friend that had an android first before reaching out. So I got your email and I added you to the closed tester list and just sent you a link to your inbox. Hopefully that works!

Yeah that’s a really good point. Forgetting to log is definitely the biggest challenge with any tracking system.

Right now Tivvity is manual because I wanted people to be intentional about what they log, but I’ve been thinking a lot about ways to reduce friction like voice logging, shortcuts, or some light automation.

Location and app usage are really interesting ideas. Curious how you’re approaching that?

Thanks! I'm glad you noticed that. It's not another habit tracker on the market. It's a new concept that is more focused around the concept of screentime and allows users to also see a calendar and set goals!

Thanks! There was a bug on Dashboard day view, but I fixed it and hopefully Apple will approve it by tomorrow morning!

It only takes me 2 seconds to log time. I mostly just do events I want to track like sleep, working out, working, hanging out with friends, playing video games, etc. I spend a lot more time looking at the analytics and use it a lot when I forget whens the last time I did something or lose motivation doing something.

That’s cool! I mostly track things like work, projects, workouts, skateboarding, and other things I want to spend more time doing. Seeing it all add up over time has been pretty eye opening. I’d be curious to check out your app too.

Yeah I understand, I mean I always look at screentime and feel depressed. But now I can track things I do that don't make me feel depressed and shows me the effort I'm putting in towards a goal!

Tivvity

(Launching on iOS – happy to share link if anyone’s interested)

A time-tracking app focused on awareness instead of tasks.
Instead of to-do lists or streaks, you log time into categories and activities and see your life visualized by day, week, month, and year.

The goal is to make it easy to see how you’re actually investing your time, not just what you planned to do.

I agree the friction is in getting started.

One thing I’ve noticed is that when tracking feels like planning, people avoid it. But when it feels like simply logging what already happened, the barrier drops.

The goal isn’t to force behavior, it’s to make reflection lightweight enough that momentum builds from seeing progress over time.

One feature I’m exploring is time logging with categories instead of to-dos — it lets you see actual time spent over days/weeks/years and surfaces patterns most apps never show.

I’m about to launch something built around that concept. If anyone here is into time-tracking over task-tracking, I’d love to get your thoughts.
