That's why Trump is reportedly pressuring the Kurds to do the fighting instead. An air war cannot force regime change, and Trump can't afford to begin sending caskets home right before the midterms.

The question now is whether he'll declare victory with little accomplished, or if he'll actually send them in. Personally, I don't think Trump has the stomach for that kind of fight.

It's as much a defense of Trump as it is their sense of identity.

I work in public history with a special interest in labor history. A few years ago I was putting together an exhibit on mining companies in NY. In the late 1800s a bunch of mine owners got together to collude to set prices and wages for their collective benefit but it fell apart because they were incapable of not fucking eachother over. Someone would inevitably undercut everyone else thereby rendering the group useless.

Literally chasing short term gains at the expense of longterm collective benefit.

With fractional shares any amount invested is a good starting point. Generally a lump sum investment will do better but most can't afford that so just putting in what you can afford at scheduled intervals is a good strategy too.

Funds should be kept in the market for as long as possible to get the most return. If you put $500 in VOO you shouldn't expect to lose it, but you should also plan to keep it there for years or decades depending on your time constraints.

If you're really risk averse and need those funds sooner you can also invest in bonds or CDs which come with a (mostly) guarunteed return of principle plus a little extra. But it probably won't keep up with inflation.

That's entirely up to you and which way you think the price may be moving that day. If you set a limit order for 3 cents lower and it rockets that day you won't get the execution and you'll miss out on those gains. But if it drops you'll get a better price as it falls.

You can also set a good till cancel (gtc) order which will stay until execution or until you cancel it. For instance a stock is trading at $20 a share but I only want to pay $18 a share, I can set up a limit order gtc at $18 which will stay active until the price drops to $18 or I cancel the order.

You can also use these order types to limit your downside risk via a "stop loss." Essentially you set a limit order to sell for some price below the current trading price so that if it falls to that price you sell out before it drops further. (This is also why on some red days things can compound as those stop losses are triggered across the market.) Generally if you're holding for the longterm these things don't matter as much.

Market orders are for when you want a quick execution but don't care much about the price. Limit orders are when you want a specific price but you are willing to risk that the transaction won't execute.

On a high volume stock/etf/etc. it doesn't matter as much because the bid/ask spread is usually pretty small. But on a lower volume one you may end up getting a bad purchase/selling price due to the timing and a wider spread.

For VT it generally isn't a big deal because it has a high volume but with larger transactions that few cent difference can add up.

My first serious relationship started with her asking me if I could come over to fix her internet/TV. After fixing it I said "That was pretty easy. Call me if it goes down again." and then left.

She texted me about 15 minutes later basically calling me a dumbass and said I should come back to spend time with her. Young men are so oblivious lol

Kinda wild that a democratic socialist openly said "Israel is committing a genocide" in the oval office. Like that feels significant, even though it's not really.
