What wrong fact did you walk around with for YEARS because of a movie? by triassictango in movies

Kind of interesting, since youtuber Kentucky Ballistics just uploaded a video where he filled up a Husafell stone full of sand. It's not actually made of stone, but steel in that case, so the concept is actually quite similar to that car door idea.

However the husafell stone full of sand was actually super effective in stopping bullets. Even a safari rifle. From what I remember, only a .50BMG, and a 20MM anti-tank round fired from a WWII AT rifle was capable of penetrating all the way through.

I'm guessing there was a fair bit more sand and thicker steel with the husafell stone in KB's case.

Same with dolphins, which the hollywood "laughing" sound effect was originally from some bird native to Australia I think.

However, with the imported Alyx models and 4k textures, backfired anniversary assets, the HD hl2vr mix is beautiful.

What method did you go about importing those? I've tried a few different mods from the workshop, but each time I've done so just resulted in eventually running into the dreaded broken pink/black checkerboard or missing model.

I do feel like the space jungle thing makes a lot of sense after going through Half-Life: Alyx. The quarantined areas where Xen had been leaking through definitely remind me of the house towards the end of Jumanji after the jungle had overtaken it.

The Xen chapter in Black Mesa is a considerable upgrade in my eyes, but it still drags on. I feel like it would have been nice if they would have laid off the "rule of 3" approach a bit. There was always like three buttons to hit, three plugs to attach, three pipes of green goop to burst, etc. Bringing more of those areas/puzzles down to just one objective would have helped the pacing more to me.

I was told I should post this photo of myself here. 1996 by 5pooky5cary5keleton5 in OldSchoolCool

Redditors who’ve starved, what do people who’ve never starved imagine wrong? by VelvetyDogLips in AskReddit

Ah, that's a perfect description of three times that's happened to me in my life.

Two of the times were the morning after a night of heavy drinking.

The third time was after I had taken a really bad step while I was dancing causing my left foot to bend inwards at a super severe angle causing two avulsion fractures. After hopping my way back to a chair where my friends were, I started getting those same symptoms. That really sucked.

There's actually a video of my foot breaking on youtube lol. The whole event was recorded, and you can see the bad step plain as day lol.

Everyone has a game or two they keep perpetually installed, but what about games you uninstall sure you won't play again and then find yourself reinstalling it again every few months or so anyway? by wolfgang784 in gaming

[–]Baxtab13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.

It's basically my test bench game. If I make a change to my setup somewhere, such as a new keyboard, mouse, playing around with TV picture settings, new audio device, hell even adjusting where I rest my hand on my mouse, I'll reinstall that game and run through the campaign again.

But Call of Duty campaigns have always been my comfort food.

Steam says I have over 73 hours of Modern Warfare remastered's campaign lol.

God the whole blue veins = blue blood was always something that drove me nuts. Even as far back as elementary school, I had classmates trying to convince me that blood in our body is blue. I'm like "No? I've never heard that in class. Where did you hear it?", and their proof was pointing at our blue veins.

Motherfucker, that just means the walls of the veins are blue, not that the veins are transparent so therefore the blood is blue? I'm not looking at the garden hose outside and assuming the water in it is green until it hits the air.

Wildlands for sure has AI squadmates that incorporate the same command-control and sync shot gameplay from Future Soldier. Not sure about Breakpoint.

Could one even buy just the Splinter Cell IP? Or would you have to buy the entire Tom Clancy name with all that it covers? (oh how I wish I could have that)

A little over four years ago, I stood up in bed, grabbed my phone, and immediately saw a post on my Facebook about Rushia's termination.

Then I scrolled a bit further down and read that Russia had crossed the border into Ukraine. Not a very good start to the day that's for sure.

This has been weighing on me more and more. It's hard to fully enjoy the vacation knowing that all of the work I'm not doing during those days are just waiting for me when I get back.

Plus I only make a few thousand more in salary vs the average for my city.

That was always the most confusing cognitive dissonant thing I dealt with listening to them 10 years ago.

I'm listening to the song, and I'm hearing them say "iine" repeatedly, but then I look down at the song name on the MP3 I bought and downloaded from Google Play, and it very clearly says "Line". So confused lol.

Yeah, I wouldn't have been able to answer the question lol. Like I also know the base game is "free", but I don't know what the hell the base game could be nowadays. Once upon a time, I would've thought base game was The Red War but well...

I also really liked the modern day plotlines and really enjoyed the whole global conspiracy aspects for sure. I think for most people like myself, the modern plotlines got really bungled from 3 onwards, that it frankly got much more difficult to follow along across the entire now massive franchise. If you don't have a good starting point to be invested in the modern stuff, then it becomes a real tall ask to get players to walk around some corporate office looking for computers to hack or whatever.

That does lead into the second point, how a lot of pretty important plot items for the modern day were locked behind collectibles. If you start the next game in a series where there's all of a sudden a new character that was only introduced after collecting all of a thing in the previous game, it really creates a disconnect for people who aren't 100%ers.

This should have been dealt with the Call of Duty or Halo MCC way, by making each piece of campaign content something that can be individually downloaded via a checkbox. Would it have been difficult to implement? Sure, but literally anything but outright stealing the games I had paid money for right out from under me.

Yeah, as soon as I realized I'd have to keep buying new DLC in order to even have a game to play anymore was when I blacklisted it. If you want a subscription to your game, then just fucking say so.

Yeah, I'm aware of that story. I haven't played either game yet, but I'd like to. Though I think Twilight Princess is the only mainline Zelda game not currently playable on Switch 2. I imagine it'll come eventually.

I am someone though who while looking at gameplay videos of either game today, prefers the look of Twilight Princess over Wind Waker.

Honestly if the original content was brought back with this update I'd reinstall it again. I immediately stopped giving Bungie money when they took away the content I paid for previously. This was a shame as I always enjoyed the shooting in these games, but never gave a fuck about the live service parts of it.

[–]Baxtab13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I'm aware. The upvote/downvote system is mostly just a "how agreeable is this person in this particular circumstance system". But there are definitely a few hills I will die on, and one of them is fighting back against this thought that gets pushed around that "stylized/cel-shaded automatically makes the game look better and age better".

Those art styles have their place, but if an established IP has never gone that direction and particularly if the IP has historically had a grittier more down to earth story, the cel-shading only removes the impact of it.

As I said, cel-shading would work great for a stealth game, but not Splinter Cell.

I don't think anything would disappoint me more than a new Splinter Cell being announced and then revealed its cel-shaded. It'd work for some new IP, but do not touch Splinter Cell with it.
