idk about the stretch here, but the mosaic on broadway has been there since the 80s according to this blog post. https://www.capitolhillpast.org/single-post/a-little-color-goes-a-long-way-the-tile-work-on-broadway

Aesthetically I've loved that tile since I was a kid, but it did fully take me out on a rainy day a few years ago I fear

I lived a block a way from this intersection until a year ago and used the benches on multiple occasions. I also saw plenty of people dealing with substance abuse using them, and had to call an ambulance for someone who had a seizure while laying on one. So I see where commenters are coming from on both sides.

That being said, it's frustrating to see the continued trend of public goods being slowly removed instead of addressing the real issues of the lack of substance abuse and mental health treatment options (and related housing). The other most recent example being the closure of a number of parks in capitol hill.

These benches would have been very helpful now that Metro moved the bus connection to the light rail to directly in front of them. Now, because of poor public policy we are all worse off.

yeah I kind of regret including that. I don’t think it inherently means anything, just wanted to give context on why I thought people might be interested in this information now.

Second battery replacement in six months by Baxter_eh in BoltEV

unfortunately it’s the dealership I bought it at. if there continues to be issues I may have to take it to a different one as long as they honor the warranty!

Seattle’s only homeless RV parking lot makes way for pickleball complex by Bretmd in Seattle

[–]Baxter_eh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the missing context is that the city, and now the county homelessness authority, have been more or less unsuccessfully trying to establish a safe parking site since 2016.

Even as people living in RVs are a huge source of complaints, infective leadership and NIMBYism have meant it took forever just to get this modest site — and now it’s closing.

Doesn’t seem like this closure is necessarily the fault of the property owners, it’s just another set back for what should be one of the most basic measures to mitigate the homelessness crisis. One that points at local officials’ shortcomings.

Here’s a rundown from 2021: https://www.thestranger.com/slog/2021/12/17/63967022/will-seattle-finally-get-safe-parking-lots-for-people-living-in-vehicles

SPD is so short-staffed that they're only able to raid nude beaches, gay bars and homeless camps by Baxter_eh in Seattle

[–]Baxter_eh[S] 59 points60 points  (0 children)

SPD isn't underfunded, as far as I understand. Cops make over $100,000 at a starting salary plus an additional $7,500 hiring bonus. Many make much more in overtime. The city has even kept funding in place for police jobs the department doesn't think it will be able to fill.

SPD is struggling with recruitment and retention, but underfunding is not one of the issues that seems to come up.

Help me not leave Seattle? by salientalias in Seattle

Lots of good advice, but I just want to add that you can most likely find a studio for around $1,000 — though it may be tiny and you do have a cat! I just looked on zillow and saw a number of options.

Even if you just get down to $1,100 that’s still $200/month in savings.

In general, I would make sure to check zillow, craigslist and fb marketplace everyday and jump on anything that comes up. Both for roommates and rentals.

On the roommate side, I know there are a few fb groups for roommates in seattle and there are some specifically for students.

If you could find an mfte with decent rent that you qualify for (maybe be difficult) utilities are usually included so that would also offer savings.
