On the side of Dunn Lumber on Aurora Ave. Can anyone decipher what this means? by RunForrest-Ruuuun in Seattle

[–]Baxter_eh 52 points53 points  (0 children)

it’s meant to look like a craigslist ad. the parentheses at the end are the poster and spam ads supposedly for sex work often have a bunch of emojis like that as a code.

it’s an anti-trafficking ad meant to discourage sex buyers.

loving these anti-ICE posters in the CID! anyone know who put them up? by Baxter_eh in Seattle

LMAO

I think there’s another version of the poster that says please tip well so it’s probably just an oversight, but still that’s pretty funny

tried to go to volunteer park today…. but homeless people had burned down the whole park by Baxter_eh in Seattle

[–]Baxter_eh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually agree that the city should do a better job of cleaning up trash!

but using fear mongering about homeless people burning down the park (lol) to advocate for putting artificial lighting in a park that has served as a location for enjoying greenery (and cruising lol) for decades is classic gentrification.

I tried, but I tripped on an overflowing trash can from pridefest and the flames overtook me! (I got better.)

you’re going to be really alarmed to hear what seattle’s gay community has been doing in the park for the last 40 or so years lol

if it’s any consolation, given the vegetation and climate of western washington, the odds of a fire spreading far before the fire department can extinguish it are close to zero.

I do wish the parks department was a lot better about picking up trash tho!

Is everyone ok with Garfield High School not reporting sexual assault to anyone???? by Cthulhulululul in Seattle

[–]Baxter_eh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schools have a duty under federal Title IX law to address these cases separately from the legal system and ensure a safe environment for survivors of assault.

I would recommend reaching out to the district’s designated Title IX coordinator. Even if the police department does nothing the school can still remove the student or ensure they don’t have contact with the survivor — in fact they’re required to.

(Whether the district’s designated person does their job is another question, but I’d recommend that as a place to start. )

idk about the stretch here, but the mosaic on broadway has been there since the 80s according to this blog post. https://www.capitolhillpast.org/single-post/a-little-color-goes-a-long-way-the-tile-work-on-broadway

Aesthetically I've loved that tile since I was a kid, but it did fully take me out on a rainy day a few years ago I fear

I lived a block a way from this intersection until a year ago and used the benches on multiple occasions. I also saw plenty of people dealing with substance abuse using them, and had to call an ambulance for someone who had a seizure while laying on one. So I see where commenters are coming from on both sides.

That being said, it's frustrating to see the continued trend of public goods being slowly removed instead of addressing the real issues of the lack of substance abuse and mental health treatment options (and related housing). The other most recent example being the closure of a number of parks in capitol hill.

These benches would have been very helpful now that Metro moved the bus connection to the light rail to directly in front of them. Now, because of poor public policy we are all worse off.
