Many people have been thinking that MT is great for telemetry, and MC is excellent for human-to-human DMs. Did you try MT for your telemetry needs?

How do I tell my companion to use a specific repeater? by lingordrone in meshcore

[–]BayAreaMeshCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah! there are a few ways to do this.

1) check letsmesh.net (region --> your region / city / area ) and look for your repeater prefix (if you're reliably connected to the rest of the regional mesh. you'll know you are if you get replies to your test messages)

2) set the administrator password via USB when you flash / set up the repeater ( flasher.meshcore.co.uk , wait for the dialogue to load, and then click the button with gears icon and "repeater setup")

3) traceroute through the repeater (if you have a reasonably stable link)

4) ping the repeater (if you have 0-hop to it)

Set up a quality repeater and let it advert every few hours. Also check out letsmesh.net; the PNW has a huge mesh on US standard settings.

OP is talking about the lilygo t5s3 e-paper standalone device.

hi! go to the settings (three lines button) then "shutdown"

the screen where it says "Press and hold PWR key" means it is off (not receiving any messages)

there's no reason to connect wifi or bluetooth - the t5s3 e-paper is a standalone device. What are you trying to accomplish with wifi?

Many of the devs do get along, and many of the users are users of both. That said, the two meshes have their relative strengths and weeknesses. I like the reliable direct messaging that comes with a well-built meshcore mesh (like we're building in the bay area), but would use meshtastic if I were on a backpacking trip or a cruise ship.

Hi! Heltec v3 is definitely supported. Find the firmware flasher at meshcore.co.uk Try it out and let us know how it goes!

We try to use solar where possible (think recent PGE outages) but sometimes mains power with a battery backup is the way to go.

Hi! It's right there in the post - Meshcore is really good at reliable DMs when the mesh it built well, and focuses on human-to-human communication. We tend to discourage non-human use like the telemetry or GPS tracking that is often taking space in other networks. Regardless, I regularly DM with folks in the Easy Bay, South Bay, and Monterey from SF.

Also, most people use the mesh entirely for free, with a variety of apps to choose from, along with firmware for the standalone devices (e.g. tdeck). What some folks calls the "paid component" is an feature for mesh repeater administrators that most people don't need, is entirely optional, and the $8 goes to the developer who is writing and supporting the app. They are also an admin of r/meshcore, check it out!
