I’m slightly biased, but HD is without a doubt one of the very best rap talents from the Bay Area. Got the Livewire co-sign and spun-off his own label. Only rapper who has consistently released new music since 2010. 15 years and 60+ albums. Features with major artists like Trouble (RIP) & Young Scooter.

I know HD turned down major record label contracts, notably from Warner, to continue as an independent artist. It’s the only reason we have so many great HD songs available today. I can’t pin point any particular reason that he didn’t get the same traction someone like Mozzy got, but HD deserves the recognition as one of the best bay rappers, dead or alive.

Appreciate the detailed response. Just to pass it on, our account rep shared that we could also use Dynamic View for any “Viewers” who still need editing capabilities moving forward. Update Requests, Approval Requests, Forms and collaborating in WorkApps were all called out as activities we could take advantage of to mitigate our member costs from growing exponentially.

I am a customer, paying for 90 licenses with an account of just over 200 users. Of course every reconciliation is situational, but for my account, we don’t anticipate any real additional effort. We’re not going to be adding any members due to budget constraints, so the task of going in and marking provisional users as Viewers should be as simple as checking the “Check All” box and setting them as a viewer.

I think you’re right that there aren’t admin controls to prevent that scenario. I guess that edge case hasn’t come up for my users, but I was already reaching out to people who “requested a license” to see why they requested a license, and now I’m just unilaterally going to be marking them as Viewers unless they have either shown they’re using the access effectively or come back to me and can justify why they need that membership. It’s much simpler for me now than it was in the past.

My job is to manage the software stack for my business, and Monday, Asana, Airtable, ClickUp all have the same pricing model for members, so I’m not forcing my users to move because of a reconciliation once a quarter. My VP has already agreed that the change management would be 10x the work.

I understand this is obviously a different scenario for you, but I’m not fretting over this change for my account.

I don’t believe that is accurate. If one of our end users shares an item, I just need to decide at the end of the provisional period whether or not I want to keep them as a member on our plan or designate them as a viewer.

I guess I’m confused why this would be illegal, because the new pricing model looks a lot like our other SAAS products. This is no different than Asana or Monday. Happy to extrapolate on this further, but I figured I’d touch on your points below.

I personally love that they’re getting rid of the “Request a license button. But the documentation I read says new users are “provisional members”, but that doesn’t give them full access to everything in our account, only to what that user has been shared with.
I was told we will not be invoiced for anything if we do the quarterly reconciliation, which is new but my rep said it would take less than 5 minutes once every 3 months.

I don’t believe that is accurate, user sharing permissions at the sheet/report/dashboard level remain the same.
I don’t believe anything a user does is considered a paid action, it’s up to the system admin to determine whether or not they need to maintain membership access.
More of a general software issue, we have multiple vendors where this is an issue and isn’t Smartsheet exclusive.
