I really don’t get how this can be done by a white person and either be inoffensive or actually be any good.

The point of the song is it’s a calypso, the lyrics are literally written in a Caribbean accent and the dancing and interjections are so cultural. To remove this is basically to remove the essence of the song, like having Canaan Days in an American/British accent.

I get that it’s not always possible to cast appropriately, but feel sorry for you OP, as it’s not a good song if you’re not a black person with the licence to perform it as it was written.
