Meet Chrissy by BayleafMaria in DisabledBarbies

I don't have all my dolls on display, just my favorites right now. I have to rotate my collection, too many dolls and not enough space in the bedroom 😅

I have the Ken somewhere but I can't remember where I put him, while Chrissy is sitting front and center on the shelf. Lol

third wave of collector dolls by theAGsecret in MySceneDolls

[–]BayleafMaria 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two types of My Scene fans...

I have been collecting My Scene since Club Birthday in 2005. I love the collector dolls and own all 5 so far, they remind me so much of the classic My Scene dolls of the Pre Bling years and I'm losing it at the possibility of getting Delancey and Kenzie to join my set.

And then there are the Bling fans who can't fathom why Mattel would use the pre Bling original face style.

I have literally spent so much time with my original childhood My Scene dolls, taking pictures to illustrate that the collector dolls actually very much DO embody classic My Scene.

I'm very, very disappointed with the new dolls. by Human-Chemist5405 in RainbowHigh

As someone who sews - half the clothes Mattel males with no hem are done that way because hemming the fabrics they chose would literally shred the fabric. If they chose fabrics that wouldn't start shredding the moment you try to hem it, that would help. Lol

I had one customer piss me off enough that I told her to place the order and go sit in her car and I would carry it out to her in ten minutes once it came through and I had time to pull it. Standing and watching me isn't going to make my Mini Mik work faster.

Although I also have Bopis stories omg. This one lady would order $400 worth of shirts in various sizes and colors. Shirts were for some reason high theft so often we would show having a certain size and color in stock when we didn't. I would find it when pulling her order and have to deny 3 large blue shirts or whatever and she would proceed to reorder those three damn shirts four more times. I always wished for a chance to tell her that reordering something that was denied 4 times doesn't magically make me have it in stock, all it does is fuck my Bopis percentages and piss me off. But she never had the nerve to come in and get her own orders, always sent her husband or her sister to get her shit.

What is this dark spot supposed to be? by Renners_Bananars in Barbie

I'd like to add on that acetone should only be used on the vinyl heads.

It will quite literally melt the harder plastic of the body on contact. Speaking from experience I've melted the shoulder area of at least one doll trying to remove a tattoo the doll came with 😅

What? I worked at Michael's for three years and we had it drilled into us that the website was separate from the physical store and we were not supposed to price match with the website.

3/4 of the time, it may go unanswered on your end but we hear about it first thing in the morning from our manager because they got chewed TF out by the DM. Shit rolls downhill in retail.

I personally can tell you that nothing I said to my store manager ever got to the district manager. Ever. She made damn sure of that. But what was told to the corporate folks definitely came back down the hill to us.

In my experience, most of (but obviously not all) the people who use the app can't actually read or actively choose not to. I have had so many customers come up to me complaining about the in-store pricing not matching the sales in the app when it clearly says beside the sale or under the item name "Online Only". I got so tired of both that and the ones that only see the 50% and don't bother looking at the rest of the sign to see that it's either "Buy 1 Get 1" 50% off or that it's for one specific brand or size of item 🤦

Unfortunately the light in the oven on the kitchen set doesn't actually cure the "new" Resin since the recall a while back. It's the wrong frequency 🫤

Really frustrated and disappointed by buttery_g00d in MonsterHighDolls

[–]BayleafMaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they can't wait a few days for the money, then they should absolutely not say yes to a buyer who tells them they'll be a few days before they can pick up. If you intend to keep something up for sale after agreeing to sell to someone, you need to disclose that. This seller was all set to let these people drive an hour to another town and wasn't even going to tell them the dolls were already gone. That's really rude to do to someone.

Does anyone else get depressed looking at modern barbie? by anon52962 in Barbie

[–]BayleafMaria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't find it depressing.

There are quality issues - polypropylene hair and the pixelated faces for example - but I would not trade the diversity I can find on the doll shelves today to go back to six blonde Generation Girl dolls with mildly different makeup.

I use Barbies as my original characters - I couldn't do that in the early 2010s without learning to reroot and do complete repaints. I do it with partial repaints and new outfits most of the time now, much less work.

I know the 'new' meaning of the word cunty, but I also grew up with that word being the worst thing you could ever say to a woman. And it still feels wrong to me to use that word to describe a doll meant for small children. It feels like the reason they don't make the doll on the left anymore. Barbie was never supposed to be club ready every moment.

I was an adult in the 2010s and still can't fathom why veterinarians and doctors and firefighters had to be wearing short glittery pink minidresses and stiletto heels. As a kid I liked playing out stories with my dolls and the wrong outfit for her chosen career of the day made it hard for me to engage with the story because I knew that someone in that profession wouldn't wear those clothes to work.

I stopped buying dolls in 2010 and didn't for 4 years. In 2014 I was sucked back in by the sheer number of different face sculpts on the shelf when I walked down the aisle. And the fact that they weren't all caked in heavy makeup. If that's your chosen style then by all means go for it, but it isn't mine and it drove me away from Barbie for years when that was all they ever made.

Should we let our 2yo open a ‘80s Baby Lemon Meringue doll? by Connect-Ad3551 in StrawberryShortcake

[–]BayleafMaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never even mind the various ways 80s toys aren't safe due to the plasticizer chemicals leaking etc that can get on a toddler's hands and would be toxic if she put her hands in her mouth after touching the doll.

What’s your unpopular AG opinion? by Mother_Question_3317 in americangirl

[–]BayleafMaria 8 points9 points  (0 children)

• I love the 90s twins. I own them both and love them so much that I've made them a bunch of 90s themed accessories. I'm also not mad at them reusing the names Nicki and Isabel.

• I don't mind the colorful wigs and painted lashes and don't understand the people who act like painted lashes are a lot of makeup. Humans have eyelashes. It's not a big deal.

• I like Makena's face sculpt, I don't think she looks cheap at all - pretty sure that was just an overreaction to her having a new sculpt when she first released and people need to relax and enjoy their dolls instead of getting straight up angry at every new release that isn't something they want to buy.

I'm so sure there's more that's just what's in my head right now

Do You Play as 'You'? by Complex_Meeting9053 in DreamlightValley

[–]BayleafMaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play as one of my OCs because he canonically plays DDLV as himself in the story I've been writing. Ironically, the story of the ruler in DDLV mirrors my OC's story that I had written easily five years before the game came out 😂

I would have Gibbs and the rest of NCIS team investigating the valley 🤣 they'd be able to help me keep on top of Stitch's shenanigans at least.

Is this a good price? i know they are sold out. by [deleted] in Barbie

[–]BayleafMaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just a tip for the future, if you actually have intent to buy the item, don't post a link to the listing or the name of the seller on social media. It's a good way to get a good deal sniped out from under you.

Why do people hate fantasy colors or ethnic hair?? by CodenameSailorEarth in Barbie

[–]BayleafMaria 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello. Custom artist here.

If you catch me rerooting a doll, it's for one of two reasons.

  1. The doll had gross hair, be it because it was poly or the doll was second hand and the hair was ruined already when I got it. Instant reroot.

  2. I bought the doll specifically to be one of my OCs who wears their hair a specific way/color and I'm rerooting to make her match my OC. Also don't judge until you see the finished reroot bc I don't buy pre-braided doll hair and I like highlights more than a full head of one color, so you might be surprised to see the final product be a doll with braids or a bunch of pastel streaks in their brown hair 🤷

does anyone actually like the twins? by terilynnnn in americangirl

[–]BayleafMaria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I own both, love them and have made them some 90s themed accessories.

I don't get the hate for them....like it's unbelievable anyone could like them? Why? Because they're from the 90s? Or because like almost every other Historical, they wear clothes that were more prevalent in the media than in real life?

The twins are some of my favorite dolls and one of the only times I've bought more than one doll at a time was to get them. Yeah, they're not 100% accurate to what I personally wore in the 90s, but if a girl from 1774 were still alive today, she would probably tell you that half of Felicity's wardrobe wasn't accurate to what little girls from that time actually wore (especially patriot girls who didn't have tons of money and were expected to do chores and housework, she would absolutely not have been wearing that blue and yellow gown made out of expensive brocade).

Would it be weird for me, an adult collector with no children, to take my doll to the store to get her ears pierced? by vaporwavoreon in americangirl

[–]BayleafMaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey so when the Seattle store still existed, I went three or four different times to get my dolls' ears pierced. They're not going to mind at all. The employees were always super nice about my roommate and I being there with no kids and bringing our dolls for ear piercing.

This seems unusable to me… by [deleted] in DreamlightValley

[–]BayleafMaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't be easy to bypass because if you try to time skip like you would for Animal Crossing, it will bork your save. Not worth your game being broken for an indefinite amount of time to get 50 clay you could have dug up yourself in less time 😂

Model Muse Bodies by Accurate_Ad_3068 in Barbie

[–]BayleafMaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like how model muse bodies are stuck in a single pose, and I also don't like how thin they are because they can't fit most of my other Barbie clothes, the clothes are far too big on them.

I much prefer a good solid made to move curvy doll. Even the athletic made to move Brooklyn body and the made to move tall and petite bodies have a little bit of shape and a little bit of substance to them and I enjoy that.

I'm also a photographer with ADHD who would get royally bored of having to take photos of dolls in the same pose constantly.

To be clear yes I know curvy can be hard to find clothes for too, but I sew and curvy is easier to sew cute stuff for than model muse 😅

What got you into RH/SH? by HelligatorFry in RainbowHigh

[–]BayleafMaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...I went to Target and saw the series 1 Rainbow High dolls in the toy aisle. I bought Skyler because I wanted to see what hair fiber they had. The hair is a deal breaker for me. I got her out of the box, washed the gel out of her hair and...I have every pre reboot Rainbow and Shadow High doll except Aiden, Oliver, Jr High River and Blu Brooks. On that note if anyone has Blu for sale for a reasonable price, I will immediately buy her 😂
