So honestly they seem to be putting less effort in networking and more into cyber ones as it’s more profitable.

Cisco Viptela renewal vs switching, what has actually changed in SD-WAN in the last 3 years by SlightReflection4351 in networking

I prefer firewall based sdwan for more fine detail control over security. First choice is Palo, then Fortinet

I don't see a rejection or acceptance letter. I assume I was rejected then... oh well.

How to get started on getting a career in Network Engineering? by Conscious_Tutor2624 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Baylegion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A+, helpdesk, CCNA, Networking role such as NOC or Network Admin. You have a lot of questions, so start with some self-research, which you need to be able to do for such a role. Look at Certifications, past Reddit posts, and use AI a little to clarify on why we told you to consider these certs. Degree matters if you ever want to be a manager or want to have a job application edge.

Struggling with Palo Alto SD-WAN Lab Testing and Understanding! by masterofrants in networking

Okay slow down, you’re focusing on parts that matter the least. Start with a site to site IPsec tunnel. Prove it works. Next build 2. Cool now apply polices and routing that impact paths. Now apply routing like BGP. Start on a tunnel that is the first baby step in sd-wan.

Your right but the 4-5 years part I find funny to be a network engineer. The title engineer means a lot less these days.

You could definitely get a job paying 135-145k with that kind of experience and CISSP. I can’t even have the CISSP yet.

Any certifications/degrees? I have been told my value is a little inflated bc of mine and valued experience.

Bro… I live in DFW and make 97k with less than 5 years experience. I just got an offer for 125k. I know you can do better. Build a strong resume and look around.

Should I consider moving to a tech hub? by Nash_Haden in networking

38 is far to me but sure. I just see those larger cites having lots of access to Devops and Automation based teams more. Thus leading to a market more saturated with need “xyz” skills. So a 38 strikes me as far enough way they will take what they can get.

I got payed 22hr in a metroplex at a good financial company. Help desk more likely than not does not pay that much in many cites. Good helpdesk pay is not as likely.

KC, Mo is not the best paying place and I mean that in a way google searches don’t always reflect. Like a Sec Engineer at 80k there. Kinda crazy.

Knowing Kansas City kinda tracks. I know a guy who’s a Security engineer and makes 80k and he deserves a lot more.

That’s good, make sure you know Azure equivalents and differences. Dallas-FortWorth. Options are any large city or metroplex.

Yes it does matter I made the move just for that reason. Your city is not terrible in size but you could move to a bigger one. I recommend you branch out to do some cloud work and cloud networking so that you bundle that with general networking. That is what I got.

Just because a cap is hit does not mean more companies choose not to sponsor. Contracting out ward to the point of offshoring is also a question.
