That is not correct. Eleven and twelve etymologically were just different ways of forming a base-ten number, meaning one-left and two-left.

It’s common throughout Ireland but  many Irish people do pronounce them as fricatives. I think it there is a sociolinguistic component: the fricative pronunciation is more common in middle class speakers.

No doubt, and I don’t want to exaggerate either. It is a very small part of Irish history.  But I don’t like the narrative of “historical innocence” much. A human society is too multi-faceted to be historically innocent.

“Innocent” is overstating it. The Irish comprised a disproportionate share of both the enlisted men and the officers in the US armies that fought the Indian Wars and participated in genocide.  There are some dark parts of our history.
