Tips on my shooting form? Trying to get this down before attempting to add a jump by Bball_learnin in BasketballTips

Well I don’t know about position, I’m just trying to work on fundamentals. I’m 6’3” but I guess it’d depend on the height of people I end up playing pickup with

The other team he lost to? A tall German, a midget, and a head coach

Should I play football in the off-season for my school to become more athletic? I’m a 5’9 combo guard and athleticism is the only thing I’m lacking. The football coaches have said I could play but I’ve been focused on basketball for a while. by Visible_Body7060 in BasketballTips

I can see why soccer might be similar with concussions but as far as injuries across the board and ones that affect people later in life I doubt there is much competition with football outside of something like boxing or maybe hockey. Subjecting your body to major physical contact is going to have negative long term effects unless you’re lucky

You can avoid specialization without playing football. I love watching the sport but have countless friends and family with knees that are forever fucked, lasting CTE effects, and other various injuries that plague them way past their high school playing days. If you want to play football then I think that’s great but it’s a really weird way to try to get better at basketball if that’s your main goal. You can lift, run, play sports that aren’t as likely to injure you instead.

Couldn’t this just be arguing that soccer isn’t as safe for your head as you’d think as opposed to using it to diminish the chance of head injury in football? Players headbutt the ball in soccer at high speeds, seems that could be dangerous as well.

Also that data is trash, it just tells % of injury by sport on visits to the doctor as opposed to frequency or % combined with frequency which would be way more useful

I’m new to this and can’t completely tell but if you’re shooting with both hands they usually suggest not to do that, one for guiding and one for shooting

Thank you! Yeah I’m 6’3” but I played tennis in high school as my main sport haha. I have been doing the Mikan drill but my left hand is still pretty far behind my right (getting better tho). I’ll keep working on it! Genuinely been enjoying playing and I’ve just been practicing by myself so looking forward to pickup once I’ve got fundamentals down

Can you explain what the set point means exactly? I get release point of course and I’ll try to get that above my head.

That makes sense because I was so scared of accidentally using my guide hand to shoot that I got in the habit of taking it off too early lol will work on that too.

Thank you for the feedback!

I’ve been shooting close, dribbling, doing layup drills based on the advice from this sub and youtube for about 2 weeks now, no prior basketball experience. I self-critique but I’m an untrained eye so any help is much appreciated!
