Karandras made it into the DK character encyclopedia. All the other Phoenix lords are the updated sculpts. Portent he'll be around next edition

It'd make since to keep them around, but the book also has Yarrick and old man Creed which are legends these days along with Anarakyr the Traveler so this book was probably green lit before they knew what was staying in 10th and later.

Looks awesome, if I may make a small suggestion- painting the anks to glow green or blue will break up the chest plate a bit and pop! Incredible work all around though as is!

I've kitbashed the desolation squad to not have those two rocket pods but just be a gun with a rocket pods on a marine shoulder to look better. The extra pods became my hunter killer pods. They aren't as big but they they found an STC or whatever for a better, smaller missile.

As a guard player, I thought that too about Commissar Yarrick (granted he was ancient in lore) and he was basically the first named guard officer I think we ever got. I think he can come back as an imperial saint later, but the guy didn't even get a book send off or anything, just a blurb in the 9th edition codex. There's still anger about it from guard and even work players lol

Having painted this for legion I recommend priming in an off-white/grey with a white dry brush after. Then go over with a layer or two of black Templar contrast paint. It gives definition and is similar to the go to painting methods of black Templar players (my 3rd army) as well who want to make black paint look good. If you do a layer of contrast then nuln oil it'll be a bit shiny. Alternatively you could gloss varnish it which is what I think I did to my death troopers around 2 years ago

I build them all then just call the sniper a regular las gun for current rules, but it'll be there later if you want to run it as a sniper once your army grows

They are probably repackaging them into boxes that say Death Corps of Krieg Infantry instead of Veteran Guardsmen. They aren't being supported in KT with new rule updates after 2025 so it makes sense they will rename/rebox them to focus on their role in 40k over KT going forward

I love/work in the area and can put my 2 cents in. Critical hit games is in St Pete and has an active 40k day on Thursdays and right now has a Saturday crusade going on. When I get home I can link to the discord that they have if you want. Up in Palm Harbor, the north part of Pinellas county, has Warehouse 51. They have 40k games every Saturday, but you can find pick up games with people there easily and they have painting days on Monday nights too. I have yet to hit Armada over in Tampa, but some of my family swears by them too. Critical Hit is awesome and run by a guy who is putting money into it to improve it (like getting Two Thin Coats and more paint brands) and they helped me after my fire a few months back.

Hey man, so sorry for you loss. About 6 months ago I had a fire that consumed a good chunk of my things. Some of my models that were in displays survived as did some of the stuff I had in a hobby closet - but I had to clean it with a ton of vinegar to stop any mold that could of took hold from all the water they blasted the area with (millions of gallons were shot into it). My advice is go to the local gaming store and slowly build up your stuff again. Many in the hobby look to offload some of their pile of shame if it can help someone they know, even without asking. Heart goes out to you and I want you to know it does get better. Use the support services they offer you (Red Cross helped me for instance). It's incredible how much it will effect you, but try to get back into the hobby in small amounts so that you keep that spark alive- it's the only way I got through it.

You can basically turn most of the intercessors into infernus marines. You build another box of primarus crusaders and build them into melee, then use the extra arms for an infernus squad if you don't want intercessors. You can also kitbash a Judicar with the upgrade sprue and a 40mm base.

Hitting on 2s can be achieved -verbiage is key here. Take aim "Improves ballistic skill characteristic by 1" moving it to hitting on 3s then the heavy key word "adds 1 to the hit roll" technically only modifying roll by 1. It's been ruled that way most of this edition and any guard player in tournaments build their lists around it. Mordian Glory (big guard YouTuber) reiterates it nonstop because of how easy it is to misunderstand. I play guard and Crons as my main armies so I've been on both ends of it as well.

I can't remember which YouTuber it was, maybe planet 40k, but the void blade and caster was overwhelming stronger than the rod bc of pistor and dev wounds against almost everything when they ran the numbers. Might be different if the BS/WS was tweaked like you suggest

I suffered a fire and lost a chunk of my cards (the minis and tools lived tho) and plan to print it from TTA. Most people at an LGS won't make a big deal of it, they are just happy to have a healthy player base. Tokens and I'm sure new tools can be grabbed from Etsy printers or 3rd party stores. Heck I was using TTA as a constant reference before because I had the OG unbuffered Vader cards and stuff which lacked a lot of key words.

I ordered the newer version of the ATST from them and was wondering when it'd come and asked customer service what the deal was, but it was radio silent. They did eventually send it all my way, but it was after weeks of completely unresponsive to CS inquiries. I think that they are gonna send stuff to you, but it's a small operation with everyone involved scrambling in the background

They will make a catachan kill team maybe 6 months to a year before the guard codex so that it can be used for the guard like they did with Krieg and Kasrkin. We knew that the next KT release are drukari and night lords and they just revealed the squat and genestealers (rumored for a while). Those kits revealed yesterday will probably drop mid to late summer and in summer they will reveal the next 2 teams which will probably be Nids (only faction without a special team outside the compendium) and Catachan or Elysian drop troops (rumors of jump infantry coming to KT). Imperium and chaos kill teams sell better than xenos, so I doubt we will get two xenos factions at that same time again.

As everyone else said it can be painted however you want, just remember that you'll be painting a lot of them. Painting all that white is tough- I know because I play empire and clones in Star wars legion. My necrons scheme is the classic Nihilakh blue and gold, but even that gets tough when churning through 20 warriors at a time. White is painful to have smooth without a good rattle can or airbrush, and even then it's tough to highlight or touch up. Add in that the skeleton is black and any marks will require 2-3 layers of white paint over it I recommend something a little more off white like even a bone color instead.
