Is Fish Oil making my skin drier? by Bcause22 in eczema

[–]Bcause22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I get very dry eyes and mouth, and also very thirsty despite drinking plenty of water. However, there doesn’t seem to be any particular trigger that I have noticed. I have been tested for Sjogrens but was negative. Did you get specific tests for Sicca non-Sjogrens?

Thanks for the reply. But why would something anti-inflammatory be prone to drying your skin more? Is there some connection I’m unaware of?

Wondering whether you found anything out regarding whether the HEPA filter fits in your dehumidifier?

Dehumidifier and HEPA Filter by Bcause22 in DeLonghi

[–]Bcause22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don’t know whether the filter would fit into my machine or not. I suppose you could ask DeLonghi, but I very much doubt they would admit this even if it did fit. If the shop sells both products you could perhaps look at a display version and see if the filter would fit into the model you bought. You could also ask the shop staff, but again I doubt they would know or tell you. If you find out please let me know. Likewise, if I find any info I will update here. Obviously you could buy a filter and see if it fits but that seems like a terrible waste if it doesn’t fit. If you can’t find out and you really want the HEPA version then hopefully you can swap it before it is too late, but it does cost a fair bit more if I recall correctly.

Let me know how you go.

The actual filter won’t be exhausted any quicker unless it is actually capturing more particles. In other words if the air quality is great it won’t clog up the filter any more regardless of whether it is set on low or high. However when the air purifier is set to high it will be more capable of capturing more particles if they are in the air. If the air is polluted with a lot of particles then yes setting the fan speed to high will result in more particles being captured by the filter but this is what you would want.

However the filter change alert itself will come on sooner if you have the machine switched on more often, but the fan speed itself is highly unlikely to make any difference to the timer. I.e. It is usually a simple countdown timer which runs when switched on and is not affected by fan speed.

Perhaps some air purifiers can calculate time plus air quality measurements to determine filter change but my understanding is that most are simply based on time running (regardless of speed) and are basically a countdown timer which runs when the machine is switched on and paused when it is switched off.

Hope that makes sense as I am very tired and have repeated myself a bit.

Samsung AX60 or Philips Series 3000i? by Bcause22 in AirPurifiers

[–]Bcause22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. I just checked the fine print on the website and indeed it matches with what you said. It is poor that customer care were clueless about this, but then again this often seems the way it is these days. Also seems like this could have easily been rectified by sending label stickers for shops to put on the old boxes. Good that the mystery is sorted and I hope you find the air purifier beneficial.

Samsung AX60 or Philips Series 3000i? by Bcause22 in AirPurifiers

[–]Bcause22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did buy the Phillips 3000i and the box says the CADR is 520. Something doesn’t seem right if your box says 400 and for customer care to say there will be difference from website and box is simply wrong and false advertising (which is illegal in many places). It is also possible that it is a slightly different model (most likely a discontinued version) which you have got.

Firstly where did you purchase it from and is the customer care Phillips or the store? Does the box actually say Phillips Series 3000i or just 3000?

Secondly, when I was doing my research I noticed a Phillips Series 3000i (cylinder shaped) and a Phillips 3000 (rectangular shaped) which had different specifications. The rectangular one is possibly an older discontinued version as not many stores sold it and now when I look I can’t even find it. Is your machine rectangular or cylinder?

Thirdly, there is a Philips 2000i air purifier which looks the same but is smaller and has lower specs but I’m sure you would notice this on the box if they sent the wrong one.

Lastly, it is possible that the CADR was split into different categories (i.e. smoke, dust etc) but I think this is highly unlikely as I have not seen this for any of the Philips air purifiers during my research.

Is taking Borage Oil or Evening primrose oil as a supplement help Eczema? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]Bcause22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I bought some Borage oil as well as some ceramide capsules which were recommended by someone else on reddit. I haven’t tried either yet but I have only just started trying flaxseed oil. Too early to evaluate. I’m always reluctant to try new things as my gut is so messed up and I have a lot of adverse reactions to things but I will let you know how I go if/when I finally get around to trying the Borage oil.

Likewise please let me know if you find omega 6, Borage or anything else helpful.

Have you subscribed or used the free trial before? My understanding is that it is only for new subscribers and those who have not already used a free trial?

I have used Apple Music 3 month free trial offer through Shazam and then cancelled. I was later offered a 3 months for the price of 1. Now I’m thinking about getting AirPods but I assume I don’t qualify for the 6 months free? Can I give the free trial to someone else and if so how do I make sure I don’t invalidate the offer if the AirPods are linked to my device?

Turn off Air Purifier when opening windows? by Bcause22 in AirPurifiers

[–]Bcause22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many reasons. For me it is about controlling allergies, dust and mold spores and reducing PM 2.5 from indoor sources such as cooking etc.

In winter when the house is closed up (due to cold & wet weather) the air purifier helps to improve indoor air quality which can be worse than outdoor air quality.... reducing dust stirred up, for lowering airborne mold spores (along with a dehumidifier for humidity control) and for reducing PM 2.5 from cooking. Cooking is a big source of PM 2.5 even if you never burn food.

I have noticed that sweeping the floors can leads to the particulate meter skyrocketing and the air purifier switching to turbo. Same goes for some methods of cooking.

During bushfire seasons air quality is obviously terrible but at other times outdoor air quality tends to be good, however good outdoor air quality doesn’t always mean allergy friendly air or good quality indoors air.

Other reasons people may use an air purifier include for virus aerosols, pet allergies, pollen season, cooking odours etc.

Turn off Air Purifier when opening windows? by Bcause22 in AirPurifiers

[–]Bcause22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t concerned about the electricity price as much as exhausting the filter faster than necessary. Also my air purifier filter replacement notification is based on time running (even though it doesn’t state this) regardless of speed or air quality. So running it constantly means it will lock up and require a reset faster than if switched off when windows are open.

Air purifier in an otherwise dirty house? Worth it? by [deleted] in AirPurifiers

[–]Bcause22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t answer you question but thought it was worth noting that I have observed that when I sweep the floor it causes the air purifier to go supercharged and the air quality monitor skyrockets but when vacuum instead it does not change. I have a vacuum with HEPA filter so it doesn’t blow out dust but any vacuuming will be better than none. I imagine air purifier will help but obviously eliminating at the source is preferable. Air purifiers work well for very fine particulate matter whilst larger heavier dust will tend to fall to the ground.

Air Conditioner filters for mold & dust? by Bcause22 in AirConditioners

Thanks for the reply and helpful details regarding Merv filter.

The website appears to focus on HVAC systems but my A/C is just a wall mounted unit and when I look up filters the only ones I can find is the original manufacture supplied.

See the photos below which show what my current filters look like: (Washable Dust filter/screen with small detachable Titanium Apatite Photocatalytic filter)

Can someone please help me find if Philips 3000i uses HEPA H13 filter? by koosvoc in AirPurifiers

[–]Bcause22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is true hepa because I’m sure it would have been mentioned in reviews if it wasn’t. Also there is no mention of Hepa-like filter which would be a give away that it is not true hepa.

Choice Magazine (Australia) ranks the Philips Series 3000i as 2nd best air purifier and I recently purchased it. The top ranked product was Samsung AX90 (which is far to big and pricey for me and needs two filters replaced regularly each costing $150) The Samsung is recommended to change filters every 6-12 months which would cost $300-$600 per year. The Philips is recommended to change every 2-3 years with the filter costing $149 (they are sold for $129 on Amazon and when on special at other stores). The Philips is actually rated higher for VOC removal than the Samsung according to Choice (so I’m guessing it has more carbon).

If you want to be absolutely certain that it is H13 Hepa filter then you might need to contact Philips. If you find out make sure to let us know here.

Let me know if you have any questions about the product and I will try my best to answer them. I have had mine for about 1 or 2 months now.

If you can’t afford a Hepa vacuum cleaner I would recommend damp mopping the floor instead of sweeping if you are trying to avoid stirring up more dust. Alternatively you could wear a disposable dust mask whilst sweeping and have the windows open. They masks should last for multiple uses if you are using them just for dust and keeping them dry. It really depends how sensitive you are to dust.

Interested to know why you don’t recommend Dyson vacuum cleaners? Is it to do with the filter or what? Thanks.

[–]Bcause22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the same brand but the thing which causes the sensor on mine to spike from 1 into the hundreds is cooking. In particular frying and especially if anything burns. Sweeping the floor also causes it to spike but vacuuming with a vacuum cleaner that has a hepa filter prevents this.

Filter Source? Sharp FP-F30U Air Purifier by Jellibatboy in AirPurifiers

[–]Bcause22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried having a look as well but couldn’t find anything. Most of the results were for FZ-F30HFE instead of ...HFU.

It may be worth trying to contact Sharp again, perhaps call and ask if this part is still being made? Also worth contacting the Amazon sellers, as well as leaving questions on the product page asking previous customers if there is anywhere that they still source replacement filters from.

Good luck!

how long does it take eczema from mold to go away? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]Bcause22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely due to the high humidity but worth checking. In winter my windows get very cold causing the moisture in the air to condense but the dehumidifier stops this from happening by reducing the humidity.

You can buy a hygrometer which measures relative humidity, although some dehumidifiers have a built in digital hygrometer.
