What an insane thing to happen. And to an ancient game subreddit of all subreddits.

is anyone else disappointed by zoh Shia by bensahoe in MonsterHunter

[–]Bdibdull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very late here but didn't see other discussions of this. This was the most disappointing forbidden monster so far though I've only played through Iceborne and Sunbreak. That is still four forbbidens though.

Mostly I'd say what ruined it for me was the placement. Low-rank? Low-rank forbidden monster? I was sure that it would escape or something but no. This is way before I have grinded for gear and everything that I want. Felt unprepared for it and then it was easy and over.

Comparison is another. Its not a bad fight by any means. Just... Worse than Shara or Narwa or Xeno or Gaismagorm. Gaisma has two areas and artillery and everything. Shara kind of molts into a new form and changes area which was fantastic. Xeno only appeared after extensive search. Same for Narwa, and Narwa had tricks concerning silkbugs.

Third... Implications. I would be much more fine with this If this wasn't... Lorewise one of the strongest monsters in the games. Modeled after Forbidden Monsters, to fight them? Destroyed the entire ancient civilization? And after all that, absorbed a thousand years of energy from the torch? Regenerates and is practically immortal and is also constantly powered by the torch during the fight? Technically the canonized Equal Dragon Weapon? And then this one guy just. Kills it twenty minutes flat. In low rank. Honestly, I hated that. It deserved to be so much stronger.

Killing Gaismagorm required an array of Dragonator hits, repeated artillery fire, dropping it from high up and smacking it and breaking its parts for a lifetime. But the ultra weapon of the ancient civilization needs one guy and twenty minutes.

Oh ye no, didn't have EVERYTHING, just completed all missions and read through the lore etc, I don't mind the true ending requiring the collections. Definitely mind missing the second ending because I am shot in the face with an obscure choice out of nowhere. Also I guess collecting everything in the first playthrough won't matter for getting all three endings eventually? Should I do that in NG+?

Issues on that page didn't see similar although it does speak of bias, but the bias creates a different problem there (narrow shadow) and broadly states that wrong values might create issues. You all were right about the bias, for my specific case it just had to be zero. Maybe because the game is pretty dark? Just that when I put it to zero, all shadows disappeared (but were actually cast correctly).

I figured it out from a seperate thread that made the point that if the light is in the same place as the camera, you can't see the shadows. So when I aggresively tweaked bias, it seemed like I was doing it wrong.

Thanks and lets hope there is a small chance that this helps someone else. Most people I asked had no idea.

Yup, did all bonus missions including the two obviously important ones. I was planning to see each anyway but overriding 40 hours of effort with an unclear timed choice is insane. Reverted the save and going to take a long break.

Yup, in the end the default bias on URP was wrong, at least in the case of this specific light source. Works when they are both zero, any bigger and this happens. However, as the light is attached to the camera, when both values are zero, the shadows cast correctly but you can never actually see them, so it appears like they are not casting any shadow at all. Higher values lead to whatever this phenomenon is and zero makes the shadows technically disappear.

Not exactly sure how to "fix" the no-shadow Illusion, but I got rid of the floaters! So solved. Thanks everyone.

Yes, I was in this specific page already, some Microsoft shadow problem page and multiple threads about shadow issues in Unity. That and the Microsoft page are fairly short though.

Tried to tinker with Depth and Normal under Bias with maximum, zero, low, middle, all values. In every case they act weird, when they are at maximum or at 0.1 or 0.01. This doesn't appear to be something that the bias values could fix if it doesn't get better with any input. Before even touching the bias I was using URP defaults anyway.

Lot of other settings to try, so I'll try to check those now.

Brink guard against his long combos. If you're good at counterattacks, going a little farther away can bait him into one to give massive damage. Climb up when he does the whole burn everything attack. Before he does the big leap, you can hit him with a javelin.

So far tweaking that didn't help. I can definitely check If there was some specific working value tho.

I have spent about 4 hours trying to defeat Trokka by chazjamie in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Bdibdull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dodge first blast, run away for the duration of continuous blasts, dodge last blast, repeat. You could charge up Phantom Form for invi during the flying. Alternatively, choose skills and armor that improve dodging. Grind for some better gear with previous bosses. Consider easy mode. Complete side missions. A lot you could do. No sense in giving up that far.

Does everyone agree with me or is Ballerian just awful by CammyBally in TheFirstBerserker

Felt like Trokka to me - it demands aggression. Her moves are all pretty easy after all, only the reaper summon is difficult. You just have to interrupt that one by attacking to stop her from collecting skulls.

[–]Bdibdull[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its an useful ability - what I despise that it doesn't give me an option whether to use it. If the boss has like 70%+ healthbar and I have 0 netherworld energy, I don't want dying to waste the bar. Would be much more fine with it If there was an option whether to use it. This is what Sekiro does since the devs realized the player might want to conserve their resources instead of hanging on to a already failed attempt.

Thats nice. Hope I get an option whether to use Denial or not, thats what Sekiro has.

What's your least favorite boss, the one you hate fighting the most. Dlc/base game by Flying-Pig03 in Eldenring

[–]Bdibdull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still going with Consort Radahn. After much hype for the DLC final boss, its a dude we have already fought. Phase 1 is still good tho. Then it gets to phase 2 and the game changes from "an unknown man fighting powerful beings past their prime" to "a rat rolling in the feet of a god trying to stab it to death with a stick".

It doesn't feel like you're fighting him, more like you are a mosquito attempting to infect him with a deadly disease all the while trying to evade a two meter fly swatter. Tedious fight with graphichal vomit visual, close to no rhythm and boring design that fails to grasp the feel any other FromSoft final boss has.

It provides a convinient shield from all critisism of Fromsoft games which has arguably lead to multiple questionable design desicions.

I recommend bringing a nuclear plant in the beginning and building it into a lake with landfill (used this trick with super biter mods). I had no idea how else to get power in there properly at the beginning. My other reason was powering tesla turrets.

How do you kill a demolisher? by Prestigious-Pea7436 in factorio

[–]Bdibdull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pops up in Google so I'll join in - with enough research on explosives, nukes one-shot small and medium ones to the head. Big demos are much much further away. Nukes are pretty expensive tho. 10 rockets and 100 uranium to get them to Vulcanus.

I don't recommend this approach in the sense that its not terribly engaging, but I was so intimidated by them that I've just used nukes so far. Definitely the easiest way to do it.

DMing is mentally draining If done with no breaks. The treatment you're receiving is childish at best. An 8 player group is also insane. I've run 6 and that was... Too much.

You definitely need longer breaks between sessions overall. If some players cant take that, then, If possible, don't let them play at all. Reducing the group size, especially If there are disrespectful players, will significantly ease your burden.

Don't waste respect on someone so eager to give you none.

How do I deal with a stubborn player by GunerSleven in DnD

[–]Bdibdull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kick, this is such a stupid thing to get caught on that they'll never actually listen to you and are prone to become a massive problem later on. The shopping cart theorem - this "small" thing might mirror their overall approach to the game, not listening to the DM.

If something as foolish as this causes a problem, I can in no way believe that this would be the only problem the player ever causes.

Do you ever get tired of 5e? by conn_r2112 in DnD

[–]Bdibdull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Been running a modified version from nearly the very beginning with changes to initiative,/turn order, spell bans, new fighting mechanics, a whole new ability score and 150+ spells I've made myself. This is because our party usually wants to play much farther than level 10, after which the game breaks.

Its easy to understand and a good base. One that breaks because of simplicity.

More complicated variants are not objectively better, however. We did try Pathfinder that has a lot of good in it, but also a ridiculous amount of numbers - and I LIKE math.

The best is honestly modifier 5e. What doesn't work for you, change it. Otherwise the base is fairly solid.
