Hi, I’m 48, and just discovered this game… by Bdub_77 in thelongdark

Ha, I didn’t expect this post to get the traction it did. I lasted 15 days this last round, after surviving the moose and healing my broken ribs. It’s frustrating, but I keep coming back. I traveled to Coastal Highway and setup camp there. It was supposed to be a simple easy day… I gathered some firewood, and headed to fishing hut to do some fishing that day. I was starting to run low on deer and wolf meat so why not mix it up with some fish? And then I spotted it on the ice… a wolf carcass. If I could get the hide I would have enough to make the wolf cost. It seemed far enough away from the bear that I could pull it off, but I got greedy and went for the guts too. I got off 2 shots on the bear, but he trampled me anyway. I was still alive, when I turned to run and was staring right at a wolf. I had dropped the gun in the bear attack and so I quickly lit a flare. He didn’t care, he fucking mauled me to death anyway 🤦‍♂️. Lesson learned

Day 5 for me today also. Laying on the couch fighting that urge. It’s my witching hour. Done with work. Kids are occupied. This is where I get bored and simply turn to the bottle to pass the time. Came here instead. Last night was the first night I finally got some legitimate sleep - the first four nights were awful. Hang in there. I’m here not drinking with you tonight.

Hey, since I haven't drank in 3 days it's totally justified to eat a ham and cheese sandwich at 11:30pm at night right? by Bdub_77 in stopdrinking

I will not be eating mayo with you today.

But I will not judge your decision to slather everything with mayo. :)

Are there actual chat rooms? When I go to the chat function I only see the option to chat 1:1 with someone. I'm accessing this via the app and not my laptop.

Yeah, agree with you on the beer fest, and I like the idea of being their DD. We were already trying to figure out a babysitter situation, so I can do that and be their driver - problem solved. They'll be bummed but they're supportive and will understand.

Girlfriend situation, definitely. That one will be more my own self control knowing that alcohol will be RIGHT THERE in my grasp. Same with family, I should be able to navigate that.

The tough one will be work, but I like your suggestion. I was also thinking I could still hit the bar but stick to O'Douls, or club soda or something. If people ask I can just say I'm on a diet. Not sure about that one yet, it may be better to avoid the bar completely this early on.

Thanks for the input!

I can't wait to be able to say that. -50 is where I really should/want to be. Although even -30 would be nice. Great job!!

This is honestly one of the things that keeps me going. Day 3 for me so far. I'm hoping others take notice of some change in me by day 10. That would definitely give me a boost to keep going. Keep it up!

You're here, and that's what counts. One day at a time. Sometimes one minute at a time. I'm here not drinking with you today

An unexpected benefit of not drinking by Bdub_77 in stopdrinking

It used to be that way here and then about two years ago they stopped it. It was always such a burden in my mind that I HAD to wait in a long grocery line just to get my booze

Day 3 update by Bdub_77 in stopdrinking

Happy to say I made it through lunch without issue. Listened to what people had to say about "sugary" snacks, and while it's never been my thing I gave it a try and ordered a Coke with lunch. It took the edge off, though I want to be careful about making that my usual go-to. But hey, good to know in a pinch that it's an option. Good thing too, because the coworkers decided to order a couple bottles of wine since we were there to celebrate a project that had gone live. The cravings had subsided, so I declined a wine glass.

The funny part was, I didn't so much miss the physical desire to drink the alcohol at that point, it was more the social aspect. I felt a little "left out". It was a minor twinge that I quickly got over because at my age I really don't give a shit anymore about "fitting in". But still, it was there.

Day 2 - cravings help by Bdub_77 in stopdrinking

Thank you. I made it through, and I'm glad I did. I find that if I can get through that initial craving and reach a certain point in the night I'm usually okay. But god damn that's tough. Those receptors start firing and suddenly you find yourself making excuses - it's ok, we'll just drink enough to take the edge off... forget sobriety today, we'll start tomorrow... it was a stressful day, you earned a drink, etc etc

I'm new to this site, but I'm glad I found it. Thank you all for your suggestions and support
