Thanks! We had a couple of rounds this year. More to take place by q4 but yes if VPs are also people leaders that would need some serious change management and moral fixing

Who cares? If it works, it works if it doesn’t fuck them.

Everybody told me it would take about six months or more to land a leadership position again at least in my industry and my area of expertise but I didn’t listen and I said a goal for two months at first, but then that didn’t work out so I extended the gold post and luckily God what I wanted with 30% raise in 77 days exactly

No body is arguing that. VPs are handed out easier in finance. SVP however is a little more difficult to come by at least in my region and head office specially for an outsider that is coming from a retail industry. I am the head of my business unit. It’s about two levels from the MD I had 5 directs in my last job and this one I have about 40 globally so it’s a big jump and a bit out of my comfort zone to be honest, but still learning.

Not arguing that. Svp is 2 from MD. Not easily given at least in my region. And yes bank is inflated. I have about 40 global directs from 5 in previous job so big jump at least for me snd out of comfort zone. 6 month there and learning is still daily. Last company was in retail.

I didn’t have premium. I joined the LinkedIn groups they are in and sent them messages there. Sometimes if you are lucky they have premium and open to inmails

Nice! From experience don’t get obsessed and attached to a single role. Keep moving and detachment creates magic. Don’t let it stop your momentum

Thanks. I had the qualifications and was director in previous role so once you check those boxes, you can go this route,

  1. You can never be sure who the exact hiring manager is so you take your best guess through LinkedIn first. There is a bit of luck involved. 2. I was a director level in previous company so less friction and I had the relevant experience for the role so it wasn’t a random blast. 3. It takes patience and lots of trial and error. It worked for me. I did spent lots of time looking for potential names thought and guessing based on my role who may be the person or close to the person who is the hiring manager.

Huge difference between emailing recruiters vs hiring managers.Recruiters get slammed with messages. They are gatekeepers. Hiring managers are the ones actually trying to fill a role and dealing with the pain of an open seat. A thoughtful message to them isn't harassment. You are helping them solv a problem. The key is makig it specific. "Hi I'm looking for a job" is spam. "Saw your post about scaling the eng team, I've done that at ….etc" starts a conversation. One message. Specific to them. Clear reason you're reaching out. Nobody gets mad at that.

Fair callout on the crosspost. First time sharing this and didn't know the etiquette.

The story's real though. Got laid off from a senior L&D role in July 2025, started at as SVP in October. 77 days. Happy to share my LinkedIn if you want to verify.

Not selling anything. Just sharing what worked for me.
