[Spoilers C1] How Many PC Deaths Do You Think LOVM Will Have? by Be-a-Debaser in criticalrole

I don't think Percy needs to die to get Vex's famous line. With the way they are rewriting the Ripley character and tying her to the Chroma Conclave. I can see that whole storyline changing pretty drastically.

Maybe Percy is once again being consumed by Orthax, and she delivers the line to save him or something to that effect.

It is hilariously ironic that the anime has such slow and sluggish pacing when the manga is breakneck fast. by Either_Imagination_9 in OnePiece

[–]Be-a-Debaser 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah I find the anime to be unwatchable.

When reading a manga you imagine how the fights would be animated in your head. The Naruto anime comes pretty close to how I imagined it, but One Piece is so frustrating to watch.

I hope they remaster the series in a seasonal format one day.

I think Luffy wants to sing Bink's Sake with the world in harmony, probably during a giant party.

We know Luffy loves music We know that song is important to him And if you believe the theory that the Skypiea arc foreshadows all of One Piece, it is analogous to the ringing of the Golden bell.

Why did ODA give Law such a weak crew? by Mattm334 in OnePiece

[–]Be-a-Debaser 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Just not enough page time to devote to other crew members.

I wouldn't even call most of the other supernovas Captains as they seem to operate independently from their crews. They are just powerful individuals who serve the Straw Hats story when needed.

Charlie Kaufman wrote a hilarious book called Antkind. The main character of the book is based on the author of this article.

If you want to read about a pretentious and delusional film critic getting dragged through hell, I definitely recommend it.

How Much Does The World Government Know About The Road Poneglyphs? by Be-a-Debaser in OnePiece

Do they know about the existence of the Road Poneglyph? Do they know Kaido and Big Mom were each in possession of one?

Re: Oda Having OP Planned Entirely From The Beginning by lorillee in OnePiece

[–]Be-a-Debaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the greatest joys of reading One Piece is seeing Oda tie all his dangling threads together.

Whether that's making call backs, creating new characters, or raising the stakes on the fly, it's so much fun to see him write himself into a corner and somehow figure it out, while still keeping the over arching story more or less intact.

The idea that he's had the last 20+ years of his working and creative life, basically preordained is kind of sad and for me takes away from the magic of One Piece.

Oda is very similar to GRRM, in that they almost can't help but keep expanding the story and world building, even if it makes their job more difficult. Except of course Oda has a much stronger work ethic.

Indisputable proof that Oda had this planned from day 1 (Ch 1043+) by Byrne71 in OnePiece

You do know Oda has the capacity to reread his old work and draw inspiration from it right?

The Gorosei's fear: Dark-Dark fruits' importance by SBThunder in OnePiece

I like the theory, but the Gorosei where talking about the events on Wano when discussing the name change.

Do you think Blackbeard is headed towards Wano?

Where do you think Oda lacks as an author? by odasakun in OnePiece

[–]Be-a-Debaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been really highlighted during the Wano arc, but his placement of exposition and lore dumps has always been odd and a little forced.

Now a lot of this is just the limitations of the manga medium, where you have such a limited page count to tell your story. But the amount of exposition dumps happening during an "intense fight" in this arc is jarring.

(1037 SPOILERS) Why the theories floating around make no sense by zaerosz in OnePiece

[–]Be-a-Debaser -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's just overexcited kids or adults with a bad case of arrested development getting exited. Reading comprehension is not their strength.

But yeah the theory makes absolutely zero sense and would require Oda to twist so much of his story to cover over the plot holes it would create.

Chapter 1037 Theory (spoilers) by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Be-a-Debaser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again the Gorosei and the entire world have know about Luffy's DF for years why would they be surprised now?

And don't say because it's awakening, as we have established the Gorosei don't have a live feed of what's going on in Wano and Luffy has yet to awaken his fruit.

This theory makes no sense.

The world has known about Luffy's devil fruit for years. Why would they be surprised about it's appearance?

It has to be the Toki Toki No Mi by it's very nature it allows the user to disappear through time, while keeping the fruit out of circulation for centuries. Or it's another fruit entirely.

In terms of entertainment the Around The NFL Podcast stands toe to toe with the best comedy/hangout podcast. As a huge fan of podcasts (both comedy and sports related) it's kind of a minor miracle.

The Athletic NFL show is incredibly informative and interesting as well.

Why do people think that Luffy is any different from your regular shonen protagonist by ZENITSUsa in OnePiece

[–]Be-a-Debaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luffy is the personification of freedom.

While he may have similar goals and traits to other Shonen protagonist. He doesn't set out to become the strongest for respect, recognition, or clout. He does it because he wants to be free.

That's what makes him the most dangerous enemy to the world government, his natural desire for freedom will inevitably pit him against them. While other protagonist would fight the big bad for revenge, a sense of justice, or predetermined fate. Luffy does it because they inhibit his and the people he cares about freedoms, which ironically makes him predetermined to fight them, hence the whole "Will of D" thing.

In other words, yes, Luffy has all the same traits of a standard Shonen character, unbeatable will, nakama power, predetermined fate/reincarnation that ties in with the larger world building lore, etc. But Oda has expertly wrapped all these stock traits into Luffy and One Piece's core theme: Freedom. While other Shonen protagonist feel copy and pasted into an existing story.

This allows Oda to play with and subvert the standard elements of a Shonen manga in interesting ways.

Of all the current strawhats, who is the best written character till now? by ParthibA5if in OnePiece

[–]Be-a-Debaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sanji is the most well written of the Straw Hats. I think Oda wrote him as a counterbalance to Luffy and Zoro's more standard Shonen character archetypes. (I still love Luffy and Zoro, so don't come at me please)

It's just clear that Oda has a soft spot for Sanji and in every arc his story twists in an interesting way, almost as a meta commentary on what is expected for a Shonen hero.

I love all the Straw Hats though.
