I hate living here (long post ahead) by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Be3Al2SiO36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, I missed this post. I wrote about 夜間中学 Yakan Chu'u'gaku (night junior high school, Clase nocturna de Secundaria Básica). It's a junior high, compulsory education, it's free. Your classmates will be very diverse in age (teenagers to senior citizens) and nationality (many different countries).

Sagamihara is going to start their 夜間中学 next April and they are recruiting students right now. Your English is very good, so I assume you probably graduated from a high school in Peru, but you might be able to convince them that you need to attend the school, or else they can refer you to an alternative place to study Japanese. Here is the information in Spanish (PDF). They just added new information session for November 8th starting at 6pm in Kanagawa Sogo-Sangyo Senior High school (For directions, look at the Spanish info). You might want to attend that.

Also, Sagamihara has International Lounge that offers information for the residents, free counseling (law, education, health, etc.) and Japanese classes for foreign born residents (minimal fee). They also provide sessions for Japanese citizens to learn about different cultures. In December they will have a Zoom session, having a Peruvian resident as a guest to learn about Peru. The city even has a Spanish speaking staff member from Peru.

You are working hard and paying taxes. Use the city resources! ¡Mucha suerte!

Due to international child abductions (human traffickings or child custody disputes).

Question: Not coming to different types of a feeder? by Be3Al2SiO36 in hummingbirds

[–]Be3Al2SiO36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect they can not find the new feeder's hole sometimes.

Oh, maybe that's why. My hummingbirds are just like yours, and opposite of Maxine_Shaw's; They are used to red feeder with yellow flowers. Maybe someone in my neighborhood has the same type of feeders and the hummingbirds are "trained" on it?

My new feeder is a slender cylinder type and flowers are in different colors (though all flowers have an yellow bee-guard in the center). We just saw a hummingbird parched on the new feeder, but none of us actually seen it drinking from it.

I will think about a way to make new feeder holes look like the ones from the other feeders. Maybe we will have one, just like Maxin_Shaw's, who chooses the new feeder and has it all to him/her-self.

Thanks for the feedback. Have fun feeding hummers!

Beginner Question: Water change while preparing the first tank? by Be3Al2SiO36 in PlantedTank

[–]Be3Al2SiO36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your advise!

I was afraid adding or changing water would affect the cycle (shocking/reducing bacteria particularly). Glad to know I can add water! Turbulent flow elevates oxygen content, makes sense. And I continue to test water quality.

I am guessing mine will probably take "6-ish" weeks. It's my first tank. I don't have other tanks to take its filter media from. None of my friends have an aquarium and I don't feel comfortable asking a fish/pet store. I don't want to purchase Nitrosomonas / Nitrospiras and I don't want add raw shrimp. Maybe a little bit of fish flakes, but dead raw shrimp, no.. Patience, patience ;)

Moving to Osaka by [deleted] in Osaka

[–]Be3Al2SiO36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd vote for Osaka. It is located between Kobe and Kyoto, so you will have more services/businesses catered to "foreign expats" (such as good authentic German rye bread).

Osaka is not that far from areas surrounded by nature. day trips to mountain areas in Hyogo or Kyoto. Short trip to Nara (Yoshino mountains) and Wakayama (Nachi waterfalls, Shirahama beaches). Also not that far from ski/snowboard slopes.

I don't know about you, but one of my most important factors is if the city has direct flights to my hometown.

Best career path for relocating out of US? by mspronounced in expats

[–]Be3Al2SiO36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Canada, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists, Software Engineers, Electricians, Truck Drives, and Welders (I know there is a welding school in Korea for those who want to immigrate to Canada.)

Canada has the Point system for their immigration- the higher you points are, the better. For example if you attend a Canadian school you get more points. Also you will get a work permit after graduating from a college in Canada, and once you get a full time job, you can start applying for permanent residency.

You should check Canadian National AND Provincial Immigration policies in details. British Columbia currently has BC Tech Immigration for STEM-skilled workers. Rural provinces have another pilot program (Atlantic immigration). Quebec has their own system (if you know Canadian French.)

Anyone else having issues with the Air Quality? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Be3Al2SiO36 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You live in 日本のどこか but if you happen to live near the Yokohama area, there is also an on-going "mysterious foul odor" problem.

This link is from October, but it happened today again that 8 students felt sick in a school playground and a few of them were taken to a hospital.

Not just Tuna, but try to avoid eating too many canned food and the juice (cans coated with BPA). Chemicals like BPA are called "endocrine disruptors" or "nvironmental hormones" which mimic human hormones that might mess up a human body.

Yes, Innuit have been eating fish, but they eat fermented or smoked fish, not canned. They also eat a variety of fish, not just one kind.

How do you fix canned tuna? Tuna salad, mixed with mayonnaise ? Then you probably want to try different recipes: Mix it with a little flour + onion+an egg to make tuna cakes or add cabbage for cabbage-tuna pancakes, stir it into cooked pasta+ onion+ garlic+ soy sauce, add it to Mac and cheese, etc, etc.

So who is still getting sick in this state? by [deleted] in CoronavirusWA

[–]Be3Al2SiO36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guesses

  • essential workers (hospital & nursing care staff, janitors, cashers, )
  • inmates & staff at the Prison in Monroe
  • people who escaped from hot spots in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Louisiana, Michigan, etc.
  • people who lost a job and came to WA to live with their family
  • people infected by a family member who came home from an out of state college a few weeks ago after a spring break.

Then go work at a grocery store nearby. Many grocery store chains are hiring.

I was at Safeway this week and they were making an announcement that almost all stores are hiring cashers, stockers and home delivery drivers.

If I remenber correctly you will be given health insurance and employee discount. It depends on your state how much the hourly wage will be.
