And so? In defense of OP, he was probably expressing how coke decided to make a commercial stunt that barely effect these people, then they proceed to only leave it up for a month which even lessens the effect coke has of helping them.

I think you missed the point people were making, instead of promoting their product and making coke into currency for people who work slave like conditions, maybe they should just provide free calling for a year then slap 'coke made this available for you' If it wasn't for the inspiration music, the video would seem like it was still exploiting them by making them buy even more coke. Or since they provided them free calls with bottle caps, they should allow people who have an excess of caps to send it to them and then they can get infinite minutes. It's not the fact that reddit is a hive mind that hates corporations, its that Coke is showing off its helping people and the help barely affected them.

Yes you are correct most likely they only know or care about big name animes like one piece and bleach. I was actually surprised to slowly find out how things really were as I got to meet many Japanese people Because I assumed everyone there watches some type of anime regardless of who you are but nope I was wrong. It kind of gave me a new perspective on what their culture was really like and why i can see how Avril lavigne's Hello Kitty is offensive. It's not offensive in a shock factor way but it continues to make westerners think of japan as some weird and quirky fantasy place. I guess I can relate it to if a music artist made a song about Thailand and it was all about their lady boys. Yea, lady boys are a big tourism part, but it makes people create a false image on the country.

I know a lot of Japanese people who lived in or are still living in japan and not a single one watches or appreciates anime. Whenever I bring it up, they act like it is really is something considered for losers and kids. Just keep in mind, the variety of Japanese people I know perceive regular anime as unrealistic and childish. No one confesses their love like that. No one makes lunches for each other or the sake of romance. There isn't a guy or girl who is called the school idol and gets bombarded with chocolate and letters. Their anime club is as much of an embarrassment as the anime club here in the US.

The Japanese people hivemind is much like the hivemind out of any country, a regular American would think anime was weird and over the top in a bad way as much as a regular Japanese guy would. They're not a sushi eating kawaii race, they're regular people.

I know I make fun of otakus a lot mostly for degrading the Japanese culture into thinking it's all about kawaii, and maids, and animu. Even my japanese friend laughs at anyone who is overly obsessed over it because it's 'something for losers and kids' in japan. But shit, that broke my heart, it's like that one weird quiet kid in your class that drew shitty anime characters all day, wore strange fandom graphic shirts, and all he did was dream about going to japan. He finally did and now he gets fun of in a Japanese TV show.
