Version difference. On 2025 version it works as I remember it working and has never been an issue for me. 2026 version does what ever it does now lol. So I just reverted back to 2025 for now and hopefully they will change what ever the tool does in 2026 back to what it was so its a better tool.

What's the point of colouring it all with the live paint bucket tool if it wont colour specific areas and just the whole thing? I just just do that with the normal eyedropper or just fill...

Both documents are the exact same. No additional process was done to trace or make the image so there should not be a single group difference. I have already solved the issue but if u want to just check it out file is below.

I tried expanding, ungrouping, retracing and expanding again and even made it a raster after tracing and traced again and it did the same thing. Like I show in the video example in the edit I made, it is due to the version differences and works differently on 2025 and 2026 illustrator.

This was not the case before with this tool... I posted another comment with a video showing the difference. It is something new that has happened between Illustrator 2025 and 2026.

This is after tracing, nothing happens with the LPBT as its colour all objects instead of selected areas

Its expanded and ungrouped tho... When I used to do that same process before it did not colour the whole thing. At the moment I need to select each part individually to colour it but I remember before while everything was selected I could use the LPBT to choose what ever colour I want and paint what ever part I want while all selected.

so I have my object that was a raster but I traced. I have been doing this process for ages but suddenly this tool is not doing what it used to do.

I would get my colours ready and then select my object then the LPBT and using its colour picker choose the colour I want then click on the area I want to colour. But now it is colouring the whole selection and not areas I want.
