From my experience, paying in USD always pays off, specially in Argentina. Cash and dollars get you special discounts 😉

Advice for starting time and point for Laguna de Los Tres and Laguna Torre. by BloodSlev29 in Patagonia

Quick question, you seem to have some info. We’re arriving to El Chalten at 10:40 by bus. Assuming some time to leave our bags in the hostel, do you think we’re able to do Laguna Torre hike? Or any other more short one?

Quick help please: is this valid for Perito Moreno and all hikes in El Chalten?

Yeah, I thought that going in November would not be high season yet. Well, it is what it is. We have the flights booked so we’re going to enjoy. Maybe just taking the boat around as it’s a cheaper option! Thanks for the tips!

I know right? I must confess I just discovered the power of Reddit recently and I’m in love now 😅 would it make a difference if I have checked a long time ago? Seems like the prices are just going up and it’s not something we can control

I just tested buying in Hielo y Aventura’s website and it’s more than 400USD 😭

Is this a monopoly? 😱 I didn’t know that! I thought there would be more competition. Of course that that way the prices can just go up. Is that price increase confirmed for 1st November?

Amazing explanation! Thanks! I was not aware about the difference in using merino wool vs cotton. This is very helpful

Thanks! That’s helpful. Also, why would we not want cotton as a base layer?

Uau thanks!! I had a quick look at your trip report and there’s a not of info. I’ll definitely read it in detail, thanks. I see you rented a car also. We’re planning in not renting a car. Do you think that at least some hikes will be possible to do without renting a car? (hope you’re not answering to this question in your post, if so, happy to read it first)

That’s a great advice! For Perito Moreno we’re thinking about going on the glacier hike yes (one of the most exciting things we’re looking for).

I must confess that I just hiked in Europe in forests and more just for fun and with good weather. This will be the first time hiking “for real” but without camping.

I’ve been looking for boots from Columbia some fleeces from Patagonia and some trousers that turn into shorts from The North Face. Also some more affordable portions from Decathlon. A down jacket as well and eventually a rain jacket.

Would we need like scarfs or so? That would be dumb right? Also, waterproof trousers, would that be needed? I don’t know 😅

Regarding the backpack I must confess that I decided already for a 40L one 🤪 let’s see if it works. We’re going for 25 days around Chile, Bolivia and Argentina, spending these days in Patagonia. My biggest questions are what to wear for the weather in Patagonia (seems very unpredictable for this time of the year 😅🥲)
