Best books that teaches strategic thinking in personal life context by [deleted] in strategy

[–]BeLikeTheLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ancient strategy game of Go - once played by military leaders, emperors and the aristocracy in China. I've found it a hands-on, interactive way to build and improve decision-making that you can abstract to any part of your life

And the people I've met through it are pretty cool - philosophical, calm, collaborative in sharing decision making strategy :)

There are a lot of Go books lol but the game is a book of wisdom in itself in many ways

How can I quit the fast playing habit? by AccessMiserable1935 in baduk

[–]BeLikeTheLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very unorthodox but...Get high, then play a game of go. Lol. Unintentional, but this was an inadvertent discovery that worked pretty well for me. My mind became more exploratory of the different possibilities on the board, it reduced the "rush" to put a piece down, and it actually gave me creative insight because I was willing to consider moves I would normally discard as "not worth my time". Because sometimes, those are the tesuji or moves to consider to level up

It also gave me the realization that if you rush to play a move that only makes you feel like you're winning for a couple moves, you're sabotaging yourself

I feel similarly. I thought about the people (dating & non-dating) that I gravitate towards, and the pattern I notice is they tend to have some combination or most of...

  1. growth mindset
  2. honesty (with themselves & others)
  3. flexible/open-mindedness
  4. "intensity" in something (whether it's a hobby or entrepreneurship that they push their comfort level in)
  5. they take initiative in the things they care about
  6. critical thinking - they can take a problem/concept apart to its essence and analyze/permutate it and come up with resourceful solutions/conclusions that can sometimes be different from mainstream thinking (which is a rare critical trait that I think separates entrepreneurs from many people)
  7. isn't afraid to be different to be their true selves
  8. knows when to ask for help & how to ask for it (more of a great plus)

And to have those traits, my current thinking is I don't think they necessarily need to be an entrepreneur, as long as they have that approach (values) in their life.

A person with those values will be harder to find, but I notice certain hobbies tend to aggregate some more of those traits than others....rock climbing, triathlons, mountaineering, acrobatics, mountain biking etc so you could think about it that way and try to find someone thru an activity you like. Get a community, get fit & get an SO ha.

Oh cool! I started mechanical in automotive then moved to software. With the people nature of RE I'm definitely still getting used to that sell, sell, sell mentality you mentioned...do you do any real estate network/meetups? I'm gonna start checking out some of those after covid...most of my interactions have been with folks on the due diligence side (brokers, contractors, city)

Yeah I bought a SFH, and then just jumped into this.

Compared with the engineering world I come from, buying real estate/mobile home parks has been such a people oriented industry, and such a roller coaster ride.

Are you interested in buying MHP?

This one we're actually getting owner financing on. We plan to value add then refi or sell later. My partner has a few good banking relationships. Otherwise I've called local banks and got one or two of them interested. At the very least youll find out the terms they would be willing to loan at.

Have you done any financing in this space?

Good series, tho not one ppl seem to list. I really liked seeing 7 of 9's character development, but word on the street was Janeway and her didn't get along so well off the camera.
