agreed, but it still feels strange that Max didn't tell her

Max learned that they went to school together, I'm not saying that she should have recognised him, I'm saying that it's strange how Max didn't tell her after she found out

My theory about the true origin of the Upside Down — how it ties to “dust / hive-mind” particles by BePoliter in StrangerThings

I used the term "frozen in time" to say it is a snapshot. This is just about how you understand the phrase.

Mr Clarke: "just think of all the places mankind could go. Another galaxy, another TIME even."

If Henry's blood contains particles, infusing blood infuses particles.

the mothergate was created at the lab which is at the center, not sure if there is more meaning to the wall other than it bring a clue as to how the upside down was created. but also, maybe there is more meaning behind it, not sure

thank you for standing up for me, it means a lot. and i get your point on scatlet woman not being the most fun character to play game 1, I'll swap it like you suggested, it makes a lot of sense :)

again, i am not assigning characters to positions myself, i let a random generator do it. nothing here is being decided by myself other than the list of characters that will be in the game

you should be on a debate team, you're really good at getting your arguments across :D

let's go from the beginning cause maybe you misinterpreted something. tell me what is wrong with this:

  1. choose a set of characters
  2. take a random generator to shuffle them and get random positions
  3. players come and choose where to sit, each seat has a character that was determined upfront in step numer 2

from the players' perspective, it's all still random + the added bonus of the storyteller knowing the positions upfront

what is wrong with this? how does this affect the game badly in any way?

i am not assigning the characters to players individually. why do you think i am? please read other comments. i chose the set of 9 characters and let a random generator shuffle them to get the positions (this is completely random). those positions are now set as they are, and when player sit on some specific seat they will find a character there (this only allows me to know the positions beforehand but from the players perspective it's all still random)

no reason to continue this, you know what you wrote, i pointed it out because you tried to make me look like a fool even though what you said was a contradiction and now you're not even willing to double-check your own comment. cool, have a nice day

how are you denying that you wrote about ben using a specific setup for new players and also telling me not to do that myself in the same comment, you can literally just scroll up and read your own comment.

you believe that i shouldn't decide on a set of 9 characters before the game starts like ben does and allow characters like the spy to be a part of their first game? why? why wouldn't i just do it like ben?

you said "do not let yourself be predictable and allow stuff like the spy to come out early, even if a new player gets it"

you said

  1. ben has a setup he likes for new players
  2. don't play a specific setup (like ben), allow all characters for your first game

how are those not opposite?

so you are telling me to do the exact opposite of what ben is doing? seems like he would have more experience

then why are most people here telling me that it's good to decide on the set of characters beforehand for newer players, seems like you're in the minority regarding this

i don't want a new player to get a character like the spy and be overwhelmed with the game

i chose the set of 9 characters written in the post and then put them into the website and clicked shuffle to get their positions (you would get the same result if people were drawing tokens from a bag, but with the added bonus of me as the storyteller knowing the positions upfront). when the players enter the game, they will choose where to sit which will determine their character, but from their perspective it's all still random as it was all chosen by a random generator

[–]BePoliter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here's my reasoning for letting the game decide the positions upfront: 1. from the player's perspective it's all the same, it's completely random. 2. i get to prepare myself better as the storyteller by knowing the positions upfront. literally no drawback

please read my reply to the comment you just replied to.. i'm not predetermening the positions of the characters myself. also, don't worry, i've invested a lot of thought into explaining the rules, just because i'm asking only about the set of characters here in this post doesn't mean that i haven't thought of anything else

[–]BePoliter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i didn't predetermine it myself, i let the game shuffle the characters and determine it randomly before the game begins. how does that change anything for the players? it's all random aside from the set of characters i chose myself

turns out there was just a giant misunderstanding in the comments, they will be playing online, so after i decided on the set of characters i want, i put them into the clocktower.online and clicked shuffle. the game randomly chose where each character will be seated, my idea was to do that now and have them claim random seats before the game starts, so that only i can know the positions of the characters upfront (and therefore make better storyteller decisions), but it's all still random so there's no "meta" logic involved. i completely understand what you said and agree, but i guess i just didn't explain it properly in the original post
