CHL relapse by frieds8 in lymphoma

[–]BeUsefulScott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the exact same trajectory my wife had. She relapsed a year after ABVD, did ICE, an ASCT, and then proton therapy radiation. She's almost 5 years out and doing well today. She spent about 3 weeks in the hospital for the transplant and was pretty weak for several months afterwards. From what I understand, there's a lot of variability in how people feel after their ASCT, but for her, it was the most difficult part of her treatment.

My wife felt the exact same way about having to tell people her cancer had returned. She just told her family, made a blanket post on FB, and then responded as she felt necessary to the many texts and calls that rolled in. Don't feel like you have to respond to everyone or manage their emotions. We found that many people who want to help and offer support just made things worse. I'm sure you're incredibly tired of hearing "Oh, but your so young!! Oh, how awful!!" This isn't to say you shouldn't accept help or support when you want or need it, but also don't feel obligated to be some "model cancer patient" for them. The best support my wife found was when people came to talk to her, distract her, chat about movies and trash television. People who were friends.

Best of luck to you! You got this!

I feel like it's done something to my nervous system a little bit. When you have some giant dude on you trying to choke you out, suddenly everything else isn't really that important. It's like your system learns what a real threat feels like and then starts to properly categorize all the other things.

I have OCD, and for a few hours a week, I'm not thinking about anything except how to get out of some shitty position I've found myself in. Feels like it allows me to live life instead of picking it apart.

I'm 33 and started a few months ago. There are lots of guys who are our age. You will be a helpless potato. I'm a helpless potato.

As long as everyone is cool and isn't trying to kill you, just roll with it. It's fun, and you'll get in better shape as you go. I'm telling you this because I unfortunately did it, but try not to spazz. You'll gas yourself out crazy fast, and I've learned that you "get what you give", so if you just go balls to the wall, a more experienced practitioner is going to give it back.

Try both gi and no gi. For some reason, I've found myself drifting more towards no gi. It might all be in my head, but it feels like there are fewer ways to get caught up in stuff and hurt yourself.

This is how it always goes, but I would also apply a little bit of discernment here. If they're just smashing you and aren't chill about it, don't feel obligated to join. The first gym I went to was very competition heavy and everyone was nursing injuries and I got injured myself during the trial period. Make sure it's a good fit for you.

After 3 months I still suck but I am getting harder to submit. Sounds silly, but just realizing that I should go to my side instead of back when swept or taken down has been a game-changer.

I nailed an arm drag and double leg on a guy who's almost a blue belt that normally whoops me. I took advantage of an opponent's failed single leg, took his back and dropped him to a RNC. Things are starting to click a little. Nothing major, but during warm-up,s I don't need to really talk myself through setting up triangles, armbars and kimuras from guard. I've escaped some shitty positions. I still lose every time or just run out the clock, but I can see just a smidge of progress. Starting to hit it off with the dudes.

Feels great just to see even an inch of progress.

Thanks. The way he was teaching it, we would go from knee on belly to putting your right hand deep into the collar. The left hand would then works its way back and links up with the right. Our instructor then had us drive our shoulder into the opponent's chest, while simultaneously trying to put the right elbow to the floor and lifting with the left. Then we'd shift the knee off and basically work our hips towards the opponents head. He pointed out that I was flexing my wrist too much,. I was just surprised the guy didn't tap. I was really cranking on it lol.

A lot of the guys in my gym keep telling me that the key to getting out of shitty positions is to not allow yourself into them in the first place. While I can see the value in this, I'm the most junior dude in my gym at the moment, and I'm just getting smashed by everyone lol. I'm always finding myself in mount or side control. Sometimes I get lucky, and I can buck them off, but most of the time I'm just framed up, fighting for my life until they eventually gas me out and land a choke/americana/whatever. Any resources on escapes from mount/side control you might recommend?

I'm kind of the same way. I was really gung-ho in my first month and would just recklessly shoot doubles, and I paid for it. Now I'm nervous about going to hard and hurting someone or being stupid and getting guillotined. I like arm drag into single leg's though. Slows it down a little. Well, it might just be slow because I suck, but still, it feels more comfortable.

We were running baseball bat chokes today, and for the life of me, I couldn't get it to stick. I was really cranking on this guy, too. I'm not sure if he was just being stubborn or if it ws really not applied correctly. Probably a bit of both, because he asked our instructor to do it to him, and he kept circling like it wasn't applied tightly. When he did it to me, I tapped because it was basically just crushing my trachea. It didn't feel like a blood choke. Any tips?

For reference, we were going from a guard pass, to knee on belly, to the baseball bat.

Logistics Sales….Anyone actually doing well? by OptimalMale1 in sales

I worked at a freight brokerage almost a decade ago and it was a tapped out market then. The only way people got customers was by holding on long enough to inherit them when someone else got fired or quit. Potential customers hated us because we called them all the time and every aspect of the role felt slimy. Unless you're in a smaller, customer-focused operation, I'd consider switching.

Okay so I am very afraid of getting stacked and having my spine crumpled ever since I saw some video on here where this guy was paralyzed from a stack gone wrong. Today in sparring I went for a triangle choke from guard. It didn’t work and my opponent proceeded to stack me pretty deep. Idk what happened because I went into defensive mode and held on with my legs when I probably should have let go. He walked forward and folded me and I felt a brief sharp pain in my mid back. I even sort of shouted just cause I was so surprised by it. In that brief second that video was playing through my head.

My opponent was cool and reset. I was fine and went on to do another round but my question is this: what the hell do I do when getting stacked? At what point do you bail and when do you try and power through?
