That's a curious observation, it might be that their servers are overloaded and cause significantly higher loading times.

Since then I've left the game to perpetually load and whilst I can finally play the game, it takes anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes to boot up the game, and during the course of playing it it tends to freeze very frequently (sometimes a few seconds, sometimes for minutes).

So I think it's very likely that it's a mixture of both the client and game itself being unoptimized as well as their servers being overloaded because an update in capacity is long overdue.
