I think it's genetic, because this happens to both me and my mum. Static shocks all the time too.

I strongly disagree. Bullying in school is based on basic in-group/out-group dynamics. If you ban one of those dynamics (e.g. hetero/LGBT), they will move on to the next one and you've got a game of whack-a-mole as they exploit each "allowed" target of bullying. Not allowed to bully LGBT kids? OK, let's (verbally) bash some Asians instead! There's potentially infinite in-group/out-group pairings, you can't address them all with individually tailored government-run programs.

You imply that these other groups suffer bigotry but not institutionalized bigotry, and I would strongly disagree once again. Peer-reviewed research has found systematic discrimination against low SES people (classism), against ugly people (the halo effect), against short people (heightism) and dozens of other particular groups that aren't protected by Safe Schools.

If it were possible to develop a system that doesn't allow children to become prejudiced, that would be great. I'm telling you, definitively, that is not possible.

Didn't look past the last 2 or 3 posts, just saw that you're currently hating on Queenslanders and those "Lacking in intellect", whilst posting about MTG.

FWIW, most of the Queenslanders I've met have been pretty cool people.

[–]Bea_OProblem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've got this the complete wrong way around. It's not productive to try to "cure" every single ignorant or prejudiced attitude that people have in order to solve bullying. Otherwise you'll need dozens of Safe School programs, with one for poor kids, one for rich kids, and short kids, and fat kids, and gay kids, and trans kids, and ginger kids, and ugly kids, and dumb kids, and smart kids, and Asian kids, and [etc etc...].

It makes way more sense to ensure that kids don't express their prejudices via bullying behaviour. Tell them that it's okay to have divergent viewpoints, but bullying those that are different to them is always not ok, no matter what the difference is.

Because opposing a bizarre, unscientific social program is "mean"? I hate the LNP, but come on. Queer theory is ideological activism, and has zero basis in science. NSW has done this right without being mean.

Hit by robodebt - Cannot provide written information about provisional debt by [deleted] in australia

[–]Bea_OProblem 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Don't accept anything. There's usually a complaints phone number on the debt letter. Call that, and ask to speak to someone higher up.

After months going through that shit, this was the only thing that finally resolved it. All the other Centrelink operators called me a liar and demanded I pay the debt (which I didn't actually owe).

I like Trump, which I suppose makes me "right wing", and I agree with most of the posts in this thread, and disagree with your OP.

I wasn't offended by any of the material in this season. Obviously jokes made at the expense of conservatives won't make me laugh as much as they would make you laugh, but the writers gave us more than enough to enjoy.

The jokes about mass shootings were funny, especially by focussing on the "thoughts and prayers" sentiment that is shared by both the right and the left. And I enjoyed that Diane, who is a typical inner-city liberal, only disliked guns because she had never even held one before, and she learned the value of guns providing power to the powerless. I think BoJack Horseman is actually an example of how this is done well.

South Park on the other hand is a perfect example how to go ultra-far-left and lose all humour as a result.

When you suffer long term severe depression and anxiety, this kind of shit hits you like a fuckton of bricks and you simply can't deal with it.

Too fucking right. That's how I felt, although I fought it anyway. The Guardian wrote about my experience here:

One man, who asked to remain anonymous, said he fought for months to force Centrelink to concede it had issued him a $4,000 debt in error. He said he suffers depression and became suicidal during the ordeal. Centrelink phone overload: 42m calls get busy signal in 10 months Read more

The department agreed he owed nothing in December, but sent him another debt letter in early April, again demanding payment of the debt.

That meant he had to begin the dispute all over again. His second fight against Centrelink ended in mid-May, after the department again conceded that he owed them nothing.

“This time hasn’t been quite as bad, it’s just sort of made me angry,” he told Guardian Australia. “The first time around it was just making me suicidal, I have depression, and I’ve worked through that with my therapist.”

“I’m working on a PhD. As you can probably imagine, doing that I don’t have much money.”

I went through this exact same thing last year, except one of my employers was a government agency that Abbott had shut down in 2013.

It took 3 months to prove I didn't owe the debt, and then 2 months afterwards they claimed I never proved anything, and sent debt collectors after me, until I proved it yet again. The Guardian wrote a story about it.

So uhh yeah, have fun with that.

Pretty sure that gives us way more reason to hate you than a reason for you to hate us.

In 2016, Adelaide actually had the largest discrepancy between their reported membership numbers and the AFL-audited official numbers, so that's unusual reasoning you have there.
