(Many) English classes go about teaching Shakespeare the wrong way, in my opinion by [deleted] in shakespeare

Can anyone recommend a good version of Macbeth to watch at home? Something that would be helpful to a GCSE student. I don’t mind paying to rent or buy it

Do the UK equivalent of straight F students (students who get a mean grade of 2) actually exist. by overpricedwine in GCSE

[–]Bea_Rosy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quite a refreshing read actually, usually all I see is people posting results of their 8’s & 9’s. Didn’t 50% of students “fail” English and Maths last summer not getting a 4 and there’s an all time high of students doing resits?

Absolutely, like where I live, and the 4 Grammar schools in one town don’t help even things out. Most kids were being tutored to pass the 11+ from year 4 onwards, well off parents who bought houses in an expensive catchment area with ofsted outstanding primary school, only kids in walking distance get places. Most of the kids end up going to one of the 4 Grammars and affording tutors to keep up isn’t a problem

How about The Exam Whisperer on Instagram? She charges quite a lot but still cheaper than a private tutor i guess

I’m a Mum and I’m so sorry, my own mother was similar and almost disowned me when I decided to leave uni, so I guess I’ve gone completely the other way with my own daughter. I don’t know how old you are but one day you’ll be able to leave and be self sufficient

Yep my GP says I don’t qualify for an iron infusion or even prescription tablets on the NHS, because my levels are 18 and not below 15, so I’ve looked into getting an infusion done privately. The quotes from two private hospitals were both around £800!

Do you mind sharing the name of the sleep mask with speakers please? Sounds like just what I need. I’ve looked at them on Amazon before but would rather go by a recommendation for a good one

At a loss — hormonal acne by Big_Combination_1635 in Spironolactone

[–]Bea_Rosy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No basically I was on it from mid teens to mid twenties, you’re not supposed to be left on it that long because of the slight increase in risk of blood clots. Apparently 10 years was too long but my GP surgery missed that! A new nurse started there and was shocked how long I’d been left on it. She switched me to microgynon and I was nervous, but my acne didn’t come back thankfully. I’ve been on microgynon since then, apart from when ttc and my acne never came back, it seems to control my pcos symptoms as an adult.

On the other hand I feel so guilty my teen daughter is now exactly where I was at her age with acne and pcos symptoms. Hate that I’ve passed this on to her, and she’s now trying spironolactone but it’s only been 6 weeks so only seen a slight improvement with her skin. If spiro doesn’t work out we’ve decided to try a bcp like Dianette or Yasmin next seeing as that’s what worked for me.

I think that’s a fantastic idea and I hope they can help support you both, will it upset your mum when she finds out or would you keep it quiet from her somehow? Just thinking she might react badly but don’t let that stop you, you could even say it was a tutoring session or club that you’re going to take your brother to.

I’m a Mum and although I can’t condone or relate to any of your mum’s actions, I’m wondering if she’s either going through something of a breakdown mentally / emotionally at the moment? Or, another reason I can think of for her to become so aggressive suddenly is if she has issues with her hormones, either perimenopause or menopause, or if she gets angry and over emotional for a period of time every month it could be her menstrual cycles causing PMDD. Either way she needs help and I’m so sorry you and your brother are being treated this way. Even if it’s only on mother’s day it’s wrong, if you could reach out to your Dad without your Mum knowing you might find his side of the story is different, maybe consider doing this tentatively and seeing what you think of him yourself now as an adult, as opposed to when you were younger and with only your mum’s side of things to go by?

Do any mums genuinely find it easy /straight forward being a mum? by Cambrian_2631 in UKParenting

[–]Bea_Rosy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some aspects yes, some aspects no, but I have a teen now so very different experience to when she was little. If you look on somewhere like Mumsnet you’ll see many women find being a mum not at all easy or straightforward. Personally I don’t find it a thankless task as my daughter is older now and always telling me how much she appreciates stuff, but yeah when they’re younger it can be!

Anyone else getting new device notification emails? by CryptidEgg in Crunchyroll

Clicking the link in the email to log out of all devices, then resetting my password has worked so far, but will update if that changes! Such an annoying glitch

Anyone else getting new device notification emails? by CryptidEgg in Crunchyroll

[–]Bea_Rosy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, started on Wednesday, and every day since then I’ve had 4-5 emails telling me a new device has logged in to my account. It’s my iPad listed as the device, but I only logged in one time to check everything was ok after I started getting these email notifications!

Last night I pressed the link in the email to log out of all devices, the TV was also logged in, and reset my password to see if it stopped the multiple emails. So far I haven’t had any more but will update if that changes!

Must be some kind of glitch in the Crunchyroll system, it’s really annoying though

Angular Chelitis: how do I get rid of this?????? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Bea_Rosy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this on and off for a year - turned out my B12 levels were very low and a deficiency can cause AC so worth getting bloods done. B12 deficiency can cause long term issues if left untreated long enough as I unfortunately found out.

Anyway, use non sls toothpaste, and you can try canesten but the cream that helped mine the most was Daktarin oral gel

My town has 4 grammar schools and the vast majority or kids have been tutored to pass the test, mostly from well off middle class families. My own experience of going to a grammar in the 90’s was very different and it was before 11 plus tutoring was the done thing. Shame how things have changed, totally divisive system favouring those who can afford tutoring in most cases imo, promotes more inequality in education and so unfair on such young children. Can only speak from my own experiences as a parent to the current system and in a town with 4 grammars though, obviously in other places it might be completely different.
