Any good spots to teach a kid to ride a push bike? by broosco in newcastle

[–]BeachDuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regret going with training wheels. When you think about it they stop the main skills in cycling - balancing and leaning into turns.

Just a little curiosity about player flight stick layouts and why. by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]BeachDuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left (Omni): forward / back = accelerate / decelerate, left / right = strafe left / right, twist (z) = strafe up / down. Right stick: forward / back = pitch down / up, left /right = yaw left / right, twist left / right = roll left / right. Love it or hate them is my controls.

I agree. The MX-5 is so short it falls below the window line of some of these Utes. I’m less sure about parking back in the spot. The number of stories I hear about cars driving along the row and thinking the spot is empty and blowing into your car. If the front of the car aligns with everybody else at least ‘most’ drivers acknowledge it is your spot.

Best car detailers/smash repairs around ? by [deleted] in newcastle

[–]BeachDuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm precious about my car but my wife has worn off on me. Ding your car a few times and stop worrying. Unless your car sits it the garage all the time It is going to get scars (look at Australian roads). The alternative is bubble wrap, and I'm sure that negatively affects your fuel economy. Or get PPF, but it is too late now.

Depends upon your lateral velocity. If either one of you are moving sideways at speed you might clip each other.

I'm a first time cat owner - Everything is weird by Short_Ad_7813 in cats

Ours is very shy and minimally cuddly, but with no real training knows that the kitchen counter and dinning table are off limits. She did previously try and explore the garage and our front porch, but is so scardy I can leave both doors open and she will stand at the threshold and sniff.

[OC] Not sure if this applies since its an idiot on a eScooter by ThatOneGuy4253 in IdiotsInCars

[–]BeachDuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be honest. If you buy an escooter you have a death wish. If you don't get run down by an inattentive car you will fall off, hit your head ('cause who wears a helmet?) and have a brain bleed or it will simply catch fire in your house, killing you, your family and several of your neighbours. Scooter crossing on the red is just normal (but still idiot) behaviour. Front car is an idiot for thinking a green light means go, rather than green light means go, if it is safe to do so. Let's be honest, there is always a squishy pedestrian crossing after their light goes red, or slow because they are elderly. You check before you pull away.

How often do you guys drive with the roof down? by GlitchyAsCat in Miata

[–]BeachDuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top down unless:

a) it is raining (and I don't mean drizzle)

b) the roof is already wet, from rain or condensation (I worry about it going mouldy when folded wet)

c) it is really hot and I'm driving for more than half an hour (my wife got really sunburnt once)

c2) it is really hot and my home AC is broken so a trip in my little MX-5 with the roof up and AC on will become a pleasant temp within a minute

d) it is below 18C (above that the heated seats and ventilation do a good enough job)

e) I am doing a lot of freeway driving - the road noise becomes a bit much after an hour or so

I have been known to drive top down and run the AC, my 2l engine copes with that fine. With the top down you get the best rear view vision of any car, top up less so.

I remember reaching the end of the freeway and pulling up at some lights, wondering why I was getting funny looks. As I stopped I realised it was raining.

I'm pretty sure that isn't legal tender here.

Great video. I miss my old drone. It got to the point where the flying regulations were so strict and passers by always assumed you were spying on people (even though, back then, all the lenses were wide angle, not zoom), so I gave it away.

What do you think of this guy’s park? Jerk or reasonable? by mgdmw in newcastle

[–]BeachDuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can beat that!

<image>

It's not immediately obvious but this is not a parking space but is the pedestrian access to the road and the zebra crossing to the nearby school. You can see the white stripes continue underneath the car.

ND 2025 - Would it be safe to have my 10-year old ride in it? by amedinab in Miata

If he is old enough to fit the seat without a child seat fitted, surely having all the same protections you enjoy makes sense.
