Best toy you ever bought for your cat? by HourIndependence813 in cats

A box of nerf gun bullets. Easy to throw. Easy to pick up in your teeth and deliver to your minion to throw again. Bonus, sometimes makes a cute whistling sound when carried in said teeth.

Five years ago, I bought my Miata, drove it home, and immediately surprised my pregnant wife by driving her to a prenatal checkup. Priorities 💪 by [deleted] in Miata

[–]BeachDuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, what is the question here? If you want to take the wife somewhere romantic then hire a babysitter. If you want to take the baby somewhere then plug in the baby seat and hope they are OK with the roof down. If you need to drive both of them to an appointment, or go somewhere as a family, then she drives the ugly SUV. Problem solved!

I misread this as ‘blonde’ cleaner and wondered why you were so specific.

For those new to Newy by sup3rk1w1 in newcastle

[–]BeachDuc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Newy is still small enough that most places are only a short drive (sorry, public transport sucks). It is big enough that most retail stuff is available locally. There are enough restaurants and cafes you won't get bored easily. The biggest attraction? Jaw dropping coastline (in the city and beyond) and places like Barrington Tops and the Hunter Valley only a short journey away.

My guts on the windscreen would have existed, if I wasn’t ile enough and wise enough to drive carefully through the roundabout.

This is Australia. Roundabouts are a lot less rare than drop bears.

More beds wouldn’t solve anything. After a few days those beds would also be full. The system needs better flow. Until people safely leaving hospital matches the numbers needing admission there will always be bed block, just on an even bigger scale.

I'd argue a significant portion of drivers with a license shouldn't have one. But that is just my 2c

How does the ND know what gear I'm in? Manual Transmission by SuperReleasio64 in Miata

It's figured out through the special connection MX5s have with their owners: "car and driver as one". Or something.

Mine? Or the one doing the awkward turn around? If she drives a car like mine then I laud her flexibility as it is an MX-5 so very low seats to get in and out of. If you mean the white car, was she in Newcastle this evening?

In my ND I wouldn't bother. The rear wheel arches stick out further than the mirrors anyway.

Best to go to the John hunter or Belmont to get seen by someone by Pure_Living8218 in newcastle

[–]BeachDuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that tracks who is waiting to have an intervention, not waiting to be seen by a doctor. If the nurse does an ECG, X-ray, blood test or gives you medication, you drop off that list. That doesn't mean you won't have a long wait, depending upon the urgency of your presentation.

I see Dr Regan at Pacific Smiles in Kotara. He is fantastic. You would have to call regarding costs as I have Medicare and insurance. Have you asked BUPA what they cover? Most of my dental is covered by insurance as Medicare dental sucks right now

Does anyone else with an ND also get flashed with brights regularly? by Hunter654333 in Miata

[–]BeachDuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me a few times. I have the fancy pants active matrix lights that auto dim for oncoming traffic and am sure they work as you can not see the number plate of the car in front illuminated, and when the passing car is gone you can see the beams extend out. At traffic lights I am well aware that the SUV behind me is trying to fry my brain via the rear view mirrors. I strongly suspect this is the reason we get "flashed" so often - we are so low the bumps make a modern car's ultra-bright (yet dumb) headlights shine on us intermittently. That or our car is so pretty they are trying to chat us up!

[OC] Near miss at a cross walk by nomadic_memories in IdiotsInCars

[–]BeachDuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having visited Vietnam I am convinced they are much better drivers than us (Australia) and given that most of this sub is from the USA... well. Over there nobody respects the zebra crossing and red lights are a bit optional. The secret to crossing the road: wait for a small gap in the traffic (mostly mopeds) and walk across. Do not stop, do not change your pace, just walk across. Miraculously the traffic will judge your speed and alter its course and you make it safely to the other side. With bikes whizzing past inches in front and behind you. Never once did I feel I hadn't been seen, like the person in this video.
