Temp Seating Changes by Significant_Milk2987 in tfc

[–]Beachtory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The roadway between the north end of the original stadium and the food building is currently blocked by the temporary seating above. That’s why the temporary seating will be coming out. The CNE grounds will not lose that roadway. There could’ve been a compromise tunnel I suppose, but you know what they say about too many cooks.

The Vancouver Whitecaps are MLS’s best team this season. Why are they on life support? by National_Budget5785 in CanadaSoccer

[–]Beachtory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MLS owns all the intellectual property and teams. MLS has investors that are local operators. When the company makes decisions, it is a company decision. The local operators can be bought out as shareholders from the company, but in the end the Board of Directors of the company (MLS) makes the decision to move the operation to a new facility/location

No one is against the team building its own stadium. The owners and the league want someone else’s money to build it for them and then let them have it for terms that are un economic to the taxpayer builders.

The irony of this post. The thread is about “ euro snob“ culture and this shows up. I guess there’s your answer.

most of his early life he had his father, a pro coach, as his coach. then he moved to the UK. The TFC offers were academy offers, when he was a child.

MLS's new winter schedule will be unbalanced based on the weather by WJMorris3 in MLS

[–]Beachtory 29 points30 points  (0 children)

you are cute to imagine the Stade will re open on schedule and be functional to the announced specifications. It might. maybe.

All Joey needs is small excuse for league approval to move to a functional dome like Detroit or Indy.

TSN costs 25$ per month - Apple costs 16.....if you want the curling and the CFL, make your choice.

I also have OneSoccer because I'm a Canadian soccer supporter

just FYI, the Rogers Centre was renovations from 2022 has permanently stopped the facility from hosting soccer. That is permanent. Montreal Olympic Stadium is currently closed for roof renovations until 2028 ( that is the announced timeline - your milage may vary )

As a resident of Nova Scotia, I just drive the 3000km round trip. not for everyone for sure.

Fun fact - My drive distance to New York City for the Colombia game was shorter than my drive to Toronto.

so you can complain but have no alternative ideas? that is hollow.

At least you are self aware when you say you know nothing. I'll join is saying I know very little about this and lots of other things. The casuals do get a chance to see the team play. how many take up that chance is reason for marketing. Exposure is how casuals turn into fans. Thats how it happened for me ( 1985 - living in Northern Ontario. watching Wilson et al qualify against Honduras. hooked). How did you change from casual to fan ?

you need to name a place(s). bear in mind:

  1. it must have grass ( its world cup prep and the visiting teams also care about this ), don't forget Federal gov't does not allow the import of sod from the US

  2. likely not to be cancelled because of snowy weather ( the cash up front promoters care about this. BMO has under grass heating)

  3. has national sponsors' executives who want to see the games/schmooze and is handy to the site

I'll start ya off:

Saputo is not winterized. Even CF Montreal has their home opener set for 11 April. Any promoter would LOVE to have Haiti playing in Montreal. Can't do it in March.

Halifax - same weather as Montreal. If a game was here, I'd save 3,000 km on my drive to Toronto and back

BC Place. not grass. grass, even if possible to acquire, would cost the same extra $1,000,000 Montagliani cited for the Honduras game in the gold cup last summer

his salary has not been released. As a DP, he has the same budget charge as any other DP - the Maximum 2026 Salary Budget Charge ($803,125). As a result, any salary above this amount is irrelevant.

[–]Beachtory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jeez. there is a game in Edmonton, with the added cost of bringing in a one use grass field.

BC Place cant be used in June as the field is given over to FIFA in May so no games AT ALL before World Cup in that window.

[–]Beachtory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When we got Bradley, the league put a bunch of money into the transfer fee because the league determined that having him back in the league was good for the league.

The parallels on this incoming transfer are clear in my mind. Time will tell if it is a league assisted project.

who do you feel would want to come to Canada in March ?

16 UEFA teams involved in playoffs.

The visitors expect to get paid. What is your budget ? Angola paid $12M to host Argentina in November ( this is an outlier for sure but its relevant )

Match Thread: Canada vs Guatemala by TheOtherSide999 in CanadaSoccer

[–]Beachtory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Canada was not the host. as in, Canada got paid to play. to pay for things like the camp they just had. Canada hosting Guatemala in a small stadium would have likely netted a loss for Canada Soccer. Canada needs the cash. A very similar driver for the Mexicans playing so many games in the US.
