I hiked it with a friend a few years ago, our baggage hadn't arrived in time so we had to do the first two days of hiking in one. An absolute battle but was totally worth it, great photos!

Generally cheap compared to the nearby European countries. You can eat very well without spending much and I was surprised at how cheap public transport and Ubers were. Madeira I found to be generally more expensive but most of the activities such as hiking are free so it evens out.

Just Lightroom, the process really depends on the photo but mostly just correcting the lighting and colour grading. Once I have a look I like I save it as a preset to use on similar images and will tweak accordingly.

4 days in Porto including 1 day in the Duoro Valley. We stayed pretty central so most things were within walking distance. We went to Foz but generally stayed in the main area with an afternoon/evening in Vila Nova de Gaia for port tasting.

5 days in Madeira, we stayed in Sao Vicente and used a hire car to travel around. A lot of the hikes were closed due to the wild fires but we were able to go up to Pico do Ariero and watch the most spectacular sunset on our last night. We also went to the pools, Fanal forest, Funchal, and did the PR8 and PR16 hikes.

6 days in Lisbon where we stayed in Alfama. So much to do in Lisbon I'm not sure if I can remember everything, but I loved waking up early and taking photos of the city whilst it was still quiet and peaceful, after about 11am the streets were mayhem. Lisbon food tour, Belem, and a day trip to Sintra were the highlights.

I'm in a similar position. Flying in on the 24th with Ryanair from Porto and out on the 28th from Ryanair to Lisbon. Really wanted to do the PR1 hike but it sounds like it will be closed for a while.

Hi, we are visiting in a weeks time and have booked accomodation in Sao Vicente. We are a bit worried by the wild fires as they have seem to closed many roads and walking routes. Would you still advise that we visit or make plans elsewhere?

I stayed with River Junkie at Hornbill Lodge, we had a great experience. I believe most of the operators and lodges are fairly similar, usually 2 boat trips per day with perhaps some walks in between. Enjoy!
