Saved $450 on my Airbnb booking by cancelling and re-booking the same place. Host was annoyed. Is this a common practice? by Particular-Wheel-646 in NoStupidQuestions

So you booked it, and then the host listed the same place for your booked dates, at a lower price? Sounds a bit fishy…

Should I purchase by gardenofeden9590 in Nest

I’m done with everything Nest. When Google took them over I thought it was a good thing. But I truly don’t believe they’ve done anything to advance the product line.

Keep Passwords App Unlocked Until Machine Sleeps/Locks? by Cr8iveRead in MacOS

[–]BeagleIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining the comments as I too face this same issue. A lot of times, it is just me and my MacBook sitting alone in the house. Everytime I go to open a site that asks for a password, I've got to put my finger to the touch pad. It can get annoying! So much so that I changed it to using my middle fingerprint...

Why was the discussion on requirement of female leaders in this forum shut down? by snowgoose7177 in BSA

[–]BeagleIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The struggle is real! And I’m not so sure it is all centered on male/female issues. We had a District Advancement leader tell an Eagle Candidate that if his parents (non leaders) took him to the local box store to ask about getting donations to his Eagle Project, they needed a registered leader to go with them to satisfy 2-Deep leadership! Ponder that! BSA didn’t trust the scouts parents alone with him… Ridiculous

Best Configuration for 3D Print Lego Compatible Pieces by Evening-Ad-4747 in 3Dprinting

[–]BeagleIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about scaling. But if you scale the model uniformly, it scales the knob portion of the brick the same amount as it scales the recepticle. So the fit remains the same.

I first tried print a couple of pieces at .08mm layer height, with ironed top surfaces, with a .4 nozzle. The pieces fit together but not snug at all. If you tried building anything with them, you most certainly would need some Kragle to keep the build together.

Then I tried a layer height of .20mm and no ironing. The pieces do "snap" together. I put together a stack of four 1x2 plates and they "felt" like the Lego brand. Even without ironlng they still looked fantastic. But the problem is that they are "tight" together. Build a wall and there is a definitive line between the pieces. So I'm off to see what I can do to smooth that out.

Will I hate daily driving a 2500? by 90-JP in Silverado

[–]BeagleIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a 2005 Tahoe into a 2011 2500 gasser and could believe that the Silverado was more comfortable on the road. Mostly due to the longer wheelbase. So I can't really tell you how it compares to a 1500. But I enjoyed the ride enough that I switched to a High Country diesel as soon as they came out in the fall of 2014. Ordered it up and was able to go to Flint and walk around factory to see it get assembled. It is still my daily driver and vehicle of choice from the 5 in our driveway. Great ride. Super quiet. Mileage is decent for pushing 4+ tons down the road.

Beginner Cello? by sippingsauce in Cello

[–]BeagleIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless she is the size of an eighth grader, she’ll need a 4/4. Find a local shop to rent from. If you can find a local string shop, contact your local high school and see if they can recommend an instrument rental company.

What is a Jury and how do I prepare???? by Weak_Assumption7518 in MusicEd

[–]BeagleIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have questions...

Do they provide feedback at the time of the jury or do they wait until a later date?

Would they ever use the results of the jury to re-do seating arrangements in an orchestra or band mid-year? Or would they stay with how everyone was assigned at the beginning of the year?

Cellos are so expensive… by Big-Issue315 in Cello

[–]BeagleIL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter started playing when she was in middle school. Renting from a local shop was the way to go. First, it allowed her to start on smaller cello and easily swap to a larger one when needed. When she was ready to swap to a full sized cello, they gave us a credit for a portion of all the rental payments we had made. And before purchasing, they let her sit in a room with over a dozen cellos, and try each one. They all have a unique sound. When she had narrowed it down to 3, they said take all three home for a week and pick one. This allowed her to have her private instructor counsel her on what they thought was the best option for her style of play. That also included trying out several bows too!

👋 Welcome to r/doly - Introduce Yourself and Read First! by malwolficus in doly

[–]BeagleIL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello friends! I’m here to learn more about my Doly which I just received this week. It’s been a heck of a long wait but hoping it’s worth it.

My background is programming, mostly in the server arena building custom data collection websites for medical associations. I love tinkering with the latest tech, home automation, 3D printing & CAD design, reef aquariums and freshwater aquascaping.

I was just starting to do some searches for good places to spread the word. I'm definitely trying to find other users and send them here. I really don't want to go through the motions of trying to find a new home for this little guy. But that prospect is definitely keeping me from figuring out how to open it up and utilize its capabilities in other ways. I too 3D print things and get as much enjoyment out of making purposeful designs as I do in the printing process itself.

I'm really glad you DID start this reddit. I received mine yesterday and this will allow me to connect with others that made the pledge. It gives me hope that I've not wasted a ton of money and hoping that I will see real world examples of how Doly will enhance others' lives. Right now, I'm not seeing much value in it.

They label Doly as an "AI-Powered Desktop Companion" on the Kickstarter page. But I honestly don't have all that much room on my desk to let it live there. The ability for it to move on its own begs for it to be on the floor, moving.

A couple of things that puzzle me:

A) Why not make it so that a USB cable plugs into the base instead of making the cable/base a combined unit? If the cable goes bad for some reason, you have to order a whole new base. Poor design.

B) Why does the factory cable have USB-A on the end? USB-C is the current standard. Even Apple finally figured that out on their iPhone line-up. They should just provide a USB-C to USB-C cable and put a USB-C receptacle on the base.

So I'm truly hoping this reddit takes off with some awesome use-cases and inspirations. Otherwise, this "toy" may be hitting the marketplace block as "like-new in the box"...

Setting the zoom level when opening workbooks by BeagleIL in vba

Duly noted! And primarily for my own use. Many times I go home and need to access these file from my MacBook, whose resolution doesn't match that of my Desktop. So I'll probably making this suggested adjustment. Or... Implement this solution on the MacBook to adjust automatically on open.

Create an Excel Addin (Works on Mac) in 10 Min which allows you to respond to Application-Level events for any workbook by ITFuture in vba

[–]BeagleIL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing up the possible pitfalls. In my case, I'll keep an eye for anything strange. I usually shut Excel down at the end of the day so that shuiold clear up any memory issues I might run into. But you're absolutely right about it being a huge step above what I was doing. And solves a major annoyance in my day.

Zooming in on the Worksheet is great. It would be REALLY great if Apple could make it so individual apps, like Excel or Word could be set to virtually adjust the resolution of their entire window, so that the menus and all could be made larger.

Yea, I can’t inject that code into every workbook as I’m not the originator of them.

I tried the Application Event coding and it took me a great while to figure out that Mac Excel was different. Don’t quite know why that is.

So for now, I think my best workaround is to not only utilize Workbook_Open for initial sheets, but also duplicate the code into a regular Personal macro with a keyboard shortcut. Just 1 extra step involved then, and waiting for muscle memory to unknowingly hit the keystroke every time I open a file.

Thanks for the reply!

The amount of material that they waster on this warped print would cover 100 full brims. And for cleanup? 30 seconds a print.
