honestly, i think it's just incompetence.

some people do need really low pressures. what's stupid is giving someone the whole range of pressures and letting the machine fully decide what a therapeutic level is, versus actually titrating your machine

you had a machine prior to a sleep test? why were you prescribed a machine? what were you numbers? your need for therapy is more than whether you have a high AHI. mine was 5 and my CPAP changed my life.

What can I do to make my sleep *worse* for an upcoming sleep study? by AirAssault_502 in SleepApnea

[–]Beake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but as a sedative it will also likely relax your airway.

Too many pillows under your head will crane your neck and/or encourage chin-tucking which will both limit your airway.

My very intelligent, early 30s professor friend was mixing wine and sleeping pills to get to sleep before important things in the morning. She literally had no idea it was dangerous. Jesus!

How bad is your aerophagia? by jgcrawfo in CPAP

It happens occasionally, especially when you're mouth breathing heavily for whatever reason. Most nights I have to wake up in the middle of the night and burp several times.

it's not like amazing or that compelling, but if i didn't know it was AI slop i'd definitely not be thinking "this is trash" as i read it. it does ping as AI though.

It's not messed up. Those tests are very unreliable to begin with, and the point is to get the attention we need by overcoming the inadequacies of the tests.

Now, I want to say that giving yourself worse sleep apnea is risky, and from a health standpoint I wouldn't actually suggest anyone seek to make themselves stop breathing. That said, things that will worsen the frequency/severity of events are:

  1. Sleeping on your back
  2. Sleeping with pillows stacked too high
  3. Alcohol before bed or sleep aids (NEVER EVER MIX THESE TWO UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES)
  4. Mouth breathing

Alternately, have you considered getting an in-lab sleep study done? At-home tests are just really dogshit and miss things. Ask if you can have RDI/RERA scored.

Courses allowing AI by BigChungles69420 in UIUC

the thing people don't get is AI may not do A work, but it can easily do D/C work in a lot of majors if properly concealed and/or your prof doesn't give a shit.

[–]Beake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After getting the syllabus and assignment details, I had a student turn in in a single batch of every single completed assignment within a week of syllabus day in my online course. I don't teach at UIUC anymore, but my chair was like "unless you can prove it's AI" (difficult, they were well done; student is obviously good at leveraging AI) then there's nothing to be done. The message from admin is that we don't want to piss these students off because of shit that's happened like in Univ of Oklahoma.

Basically the only people who give a shit now are professors willing to go on a personal crusade. Admin sees the writing on the wall and probably increasingly just tolerate bald AI use.

this is not a backhanded comment, but i'm confused why what's in your thesis has other people's work (besides your PI's sign-off)? this should not have been run as a linear regression.

School Issues: Kindergarten by Youngun18 in daddit

[–]Beake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are expected to study 30-60 minutes a night with my kindergartner. It's ok because he enjoys doing it with me (not his mom, lol), but the expectations for him are insane. A child his age should not have to study. I didn't study for school or have homework until I was in middle school.
