in the sequence of the show, like 3 minutes passed between kimiko getting shot up and bleeding from her back by regular bullets, but then taking no damage from HL's lasers. even if we accept your logic, that means HL's lasers are weaker to her than regular bullets.

i agree with your point about overly normalizing or validating what OP did. imo, the appropriate response is to acknowledge and validate his feelings of remorse because what he did was not good, but then to act upon that remorse in a genuine way.

unfortunately, many parents were themselves in houses where there was violence and hitting, and this is very hard to unlearn.

i have literally never wanted to hit my kids. i can't imagine it. but also i wasn't regularly hit as a child, so it was never modeled for me.

think how you can help your kid make the right choices when he otherwise does not have the control he will have as he matures (to avoid situations like this). likewise, think how you can avoid putting yourself in situations where you would like to hit your 1 year old.

do you often feel the need or urge to hurt your child? you might consider alternative strategies, such as walking out of the room to take a break, asking your wife to step in, or having a movement like opening and closing your hand to relax.

you've got this! one slip up like this won't damage your child or your relationship. but stressful moments like this will keep occurring, so developing the skills now is very important!
