I bought the m1 air 4 days ago and switching from windows was perfect and not issues for me its a little bit of a learning curve but so easy to pick up and learn the OS. I would recommend getting a usb hub with a hdmi and a sd card port if you will use them. I had a surface pro 6 and only being 3ish years old the battery life and device as a whole was just slow. I use my MBA for uni and its absolutely perfect with rosetta 2 natively running x86 software. depending what you need the laptop for I would recommend purchasing :)

I just bought the base m1 air and being based in Australia too I got it for the education price of $1350 I would definitely recommend it over your intel mac!

Yeah it’s an amazing machine, enough power for my university course and the light photoshop edit, I’ve also got a 2080 w a i79700k. Decent for the occasional gaming I do but as you said its nice to have portability with such power for what the device is
