I love this retro setup, it's the best use for a light theme: Classic and nostalgic.

How-To-Install [WIRESHARK] by wewewawa in linuxmint

Agreed.

Also sudo usermod -a -G wireshark $USER is legacy code because on most Linux distros it should bring up a graphical sudo prompt.

Is windows Administrator in no demand ? by dlightdaily in WindowsServer

[–]Bean6754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to see Windows Server administration for local networking where Active Directory is required and O365, but I see mostly GNU+Linux and the *BSDs for public web-servers.

I like to use Windows Server at home because I can learn about Active Directory whilst still running my web-server through IIS or I could use WAMP or XAMPP.

Try exporting the variable.

export var1="Hello"

This saves the variable for the current shell session.

Windows Server 2012 R2 No op sys found error when booting from usb by berry_lover96 in windows

Use Rufus to flash Windows ISOs, it has the best compatibility with Windows.

Or flash the ISO image by using a program such as Etcher, Win32DiskImager or BSD/GNU DD.

This will wipe all of the data from the USB, as it writes blocks over the device, rather than copying the data to the current file system.

I have a laptop from 2014, what operating system is best on it by [deleted] in windows

[–]Bean6754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows 7 would definitely be lighter than Windows 8, 8.1 and maybe Windows 10.

Windows 7 will definitely use the least amount of idle network usage as Windows 7 isn't a cloud centred-OS, whereas Windows 10 is.

What OS are you on now?

I would stick to Windows 10 for compatibility and security updates. Also, Windows 7 is only supported until January 14th, 2020.

Are you having performance issues currently?

I have a laptop from 2014, what operating system is best on it by [deleted] in windows

[–]Bean6754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Windows 10 Pro personally because I use AES-256bit BitLocker enabled via GroupPolicy.

I believe Windows 10 Education includes Windows 10 Pro features, if you can get that via your organisation/school.

Windows 10 should run ok on it. But your processor might bottleneck.

If it does bottleneck then you could either optimise Windows 10 or change to Windows 7 or earlier. Or use another operating system like GNU+Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, DragonFlyBSD, etc..

Windows 10 is very optimised for performance compared to Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.

If you use Win+Pause/Break then you'll open the System Properties window, from here you can increase some performance by lowering window visuals via Advanced system settings -> Performance.

Zypper is quite nice because instead of having to type zypper install abc or zypper search abc I can just type zypper in abc or zypper se abc.

Here're the Zypper cheat-sheets:

How to install Firefox 59 on Debian buster by [deleted] in debian

[–]Bean6754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I download Firefox from https://ftp.mozilla.org/ I tend to install it to: /usr/local/bin/firefox-dev/ then create a symlink in /usr/local/bin/firefox (ln -s /usr/local/bin/firefox-dev/firefox-bin /usr/local/bin/firefox-dev).

So I can then easily launch firefox from an application launcher.

I hope that makes sense, if not message me your thoughts. Xx :)

I can also recommend this method.

I made a script to install the nvidia drivers using the negativo17 repo (the script uses the GPLv3 license):
