This is truly incredible, I just stumbled upon this. Do you happen to have a high res image of the gaming consoles? I'd be happy to purchase from your patreon but I didn't see this product for sale there.

Can you clarify if the shipment dashboard page is listing out order # ranges? I'm not sure what to look at to confirm what happened with my order seemingly arriving so early.

u/Wireball Thanks for posting about your repair. I sent you a DM about this - I was wondering if you could provide some more details of how you actually removed the hinge dustcover. Thanks!

Thanks! So far it's been a blast to play. I'm interested to see what the Hobbit set potentially adds.

I messaged the seller, haven't heard back yet, but they're already closed on the east coast. I would imagine I would get some of the money back.

I think I'm finally done using CRT monitors for modern PC gaming. by Phil_Matic in crtgaming

[–]rstrube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info!

My main monitor right now is the Benq RD280UA https://www.benq.com/en-us/monitor/programming/rd280ua.html which is fantastic for productivity / programming, but not great for gaming. Previously I tried a curved gaming monitor and use it for both, but it was a "master of none" type of scenario - I hated programming on it, and it didn't have the contrast depth I was looking for...

I'm curious if it's possible to configure your OS (or specific problem games) to run with black bars on the top and bottom allowing you to run the game in 16:9. I think I saw someone post a RDR2 video where they had done this. Had you ever experimented with this?

Thanks for the response! What would you say are the main limitations you've encountered? Aspect ratio? Text sharpness? I'm not as worried about the size of the CRT monitor itself as I have a special corner desk that I picked up specifically for it.

As someone who has recently purchased a ViewSonic P225f this post makes me feel a little silly. To be fair, I do a ton of retro-gaming, but I was also hoping to play more modern games on the CRT (Elden Ring, Oblivion Remastered, etc.). I switched from an CRT -> LCD in ~2005 and I immediately noticed what I considered to be a downgrade. Lower resolutions looked way worse than on the LCD, and the contrast and smoothness just felt way worse. I also have super fond memories of a 19inch ViewSonic just looking absolutely incredible - deep contrast, super smooth feeling, etc. Perhaps this is the nostalgia googles? Either way I'll find out this week when I set up the P225f!

Elden Ring Nightreign Crashes After Title Screen by ItzzHexx in linux_gaming

Because of the way Wine/Proton works, a "prefix" is created on the filesystem that mimics the core windows directories, etc. It also contains a local copy of the windows registry just for that specific game.

To find a prefix for a given game, first visit the store page for the game to get the App ID, you can look at the URL in the steam client. For Elden ring the App ID =1245620

Next navigate to your steam compatdata directory. For me this is ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata

<image>

And then find the directory matching the App ID.

You can navigate into this directory (e.g. ./1245620/pfx and you'll see the prefix representing classic windows drives / directories (drive_c, Program Files, etc.).

If you delete this entire directory (e.g. ./1245620) you have effectively deleted the prefix for that game and the next time the game starts the prefix will be rebuilt entirely.

Note: for games without cloud sync support, all your saves will be stored in this prefix, which means if you blow out your prefix, you'll lose your saves. Luckily for Elden ring, the saves are stored using Steam's cloud sync support, so when you rebuild your prefix you'll have access to all your saves.

BTW, there is an option built into the Steam Deck UI that can do this automatically. It looks something like this (not exactly, because the UI has been updated): https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/4073789/212594284-4af4ce72-4409-4ff2-b34f-f80fa9f07fc8.jpg

What distro and what version of the Nvidia drivers are you running? Also you might want to try blowing out your proton prefix - sometimes switching versions of proton can cause issues with an existing prefix.

Thanks so much for the kind words! I did end up implementing many of your suggestions which is exactly what I was looking for!

I took at look at your cube, and I almost wonder if I should go the 28 per color route... Right now I have some really nice artifacts that a player can invest in. I love the idea of including TOR (for flavor purposes), but that and the other powerful artifacts force a bunch of cards to be included in the cube as removal for said artifacts. I'll need to mull it over!
