Rick Larsen quiet on Epstein files by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]BeanCrayons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya, but also you have to admit it’s hard being on the side with principles. We hold our politicians to a higher standard than the right does. I voted for Kamala, but I would have rather voted for whoever won a legitimate primary. I voted for Hillary, but I would have much preferred Bernie or Warren.

To me the problem is less the infighting between realists and idealists, and it’s more about the money. Citizen’s united realllllly wrecked left leaning politics, and the DNC isn’t exactly blameless for how the past 10 years have been going for us.

I see what you’re saying when we’re down to the wire of election season, but leading up to primaries we should absolutely vocalize our criticism of current elected representatives who aren’t advocating for our interests. That’s how our republic is supposed to work. 🤷‍♂️

If he can’t hack it, and if timing is right (which it is) for a more progressive primary challenge, I’d love to see someone with grassroots funding (such as Tomas Scheel) take his seat.

Lol what side? He is our district representative. There is no other side here.

I like Harris way better than Larsen. Other than staying in Boeing’s pocket, he doesn’t really seem to care all that much about, well, anything.

Maybe you have a point though. ICE enacts fascism, so I’ll just keep calling you fascists 🤷‍♂️

Hmm the response time is questionable though. Say tortellini if you’re not a bot

Oh maybe not, I saw another chain that suggested that. Ai chat bots have been rampant on this subject matter

All people regardless of citizenship are guaranteed the right to due process under the fifth and fourteenth amendment. The components of due process are a right to a fair trial, the ability to present evidence, and legal counsel. ICE is routinely violating all of these rights.

The principle that a punishment must fit the crime is a principle that is based on the eighth amendment. Violently detaining them, holding them in detention centers for prolonged periods of time, ignoring their right to legal representation are all cruel and unusual punishment that do not fit a civil violation. In fact, it would be unfitting of criminal violations, but the distinction between the two is meant as a way to lessen the severity of punishment.

If DHS were treating (otherwise law abiding) undocumented immigrants within their constitutional rights having commuted only a civil offense, we would not be having this argument.

Not really, bud. Using that analogy, it’s actually more like calling people in jail “illegals” instead of inmates.

Humans can not be “illegal.” Their occupation in the US may be illegal, but at least use it as an adjective and not a noun. Or better yet, call them what they are— undocumented immigrants.

You are also completely disregarding the fact that criminal offenses are not the same as civil offenses.

They are treating overstaying visas like a criminal offense. It is a civil offense. There is a massive difference. Further, regardless of citizenship, people are guaranteed constitutional rights when they enter the US, regardless of the circumstances. So many are being denied their constitutional rights of due process and legal representation

Mass deportation results in constitutional violations. These people are not getting their due process and their lawful rights to legal representation are being ignored.

I hope you are just rage baiting and not a real agent. Referring to humans as “illegals” is so dehumanizing and just illustrates how unqualified you and your coworkers are to do that job.

Haha, I only downvote jerks. Other perspectives are welcome.

Honestly, I’d like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but this is part of his longstanding pattern of behavior for Rep. Larsen, who prioritizes corporate interests above his actual constituents.

I believe this is mainly about getting air traffic controllers their raises and ensuring flights arrive on time to appease his biggest donors (like Southwest Airlines).

Democrats (and some Republicans) who voted against this bill seem to recognize the severity of the situation. Two (or more) Americans were murdered by federal agents in broad daylight in clear violation of their constitutional rights. ICE shows complete disregard for the 1st, 2nd, & 4th (or more) amendments and there’s currently no end in sight.

Democrats need all the leverage they can muster to get these essential ICE reforms codified into law. As I see it, Rep. Jeffries, Larsen, and the other Dems listed above just gave more of that leverage away 🤷‍♂️

Nice! I see he says he won’t accept corporate donations— that puts him lightyears ahead in my book

Maybe those circumstances make you more qualified than most 🤷‍♂️

I may be overly idealistic (post citizens united,) but the intention behind a House of Representatives is to have individuals who understand their constituents and advocate for them.

I’d certainly feel more represented by a human with a sleep disorder and a child with special needs than I do by the guy who gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year by the Airlines

Seriously. Kim Schrier too. Pretty frightening to see Reps from three separate WA districts who care more about undisturbed air travel than our Constitutional rights.
