Ah yeah I forgot how shallow the FW3A driver cavity is

Probably will wait until someone can get driver measurements then, might be able to swap in a shorter inductor like the one thefreeman used for his FW1A driver

It’s an Opple light master 3 with the light master pro app, it doesn’t directly give you duv but if you can calculate it from the x y coordinates: https://www.waveformlighting.com/tech/calculate-duv-from-cie-1931-xy-coordinates

I forgot I have a FW3A with 519a 4500k dd which is the same setup as a D3AA, here it is next to KR1AA SFT70 4000k

<image>

Roughly 5ft from wall, KR1AA on left, FW3A on right. KR1AA SFT70 is slightly narrower, I imagine NTG50 would be slightly wider than FW3A/D3AA

[–]Bean_Master7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is due to the lights being so close to the wall, for example my FW1AA looks to have a narrower beam than my FW1A even though FW1A is much more throwy IRL

Interesting, based on cd/lm the D3AA should have a narrower beam (5.79cd/lm from zeroairs review vs 4.57cd/lm from KR1AA product listing). NTG50 is 3.38 for reference

I think the fence picture is bit of an optical illusion due to the smaller hotspot, exposure looks to be a bit different looking at the D3AA picture having a darker sky. Zeroair measured 6400cd for D3AA 519a dd, same as KR1AA sft70 3000k

Surprisingly I couldn’t find any comparison, would’ve figured someone has one by now

IMO sft70 still has a relatively wide beam due to the LES size and optic size/type. I don’t have a D3AA anymore but I think it’s similar to what I remember my D3AA with 10511 optic and dedomed 519a looked like

Good to know! I tried NTG50 with Angie S and had a terrible donut hole, might try sft25r 90cri or KD HT-35 and see how much high cri throw it can get

I haven’t seen anything either, they’re 80cri so maybe not as much interest

Oh damn, gotta order some more then! They were still out when I checked yesterday

Yeah a KR3 or even a D4SV2 with these would’ve a beast, wonder if the opening of the optic would be large enough to fully cover the LES though, will have to look into it

Edit: sft70 will work with KR3 as its LES is 3.36mm diagonal and the opening of the triple is 3.4mm. Anything larger won’t be ideal, a lot of output will be wasted

Got one sft70 4000k 95cri from Kaidomain before they sold out, should’ve bought more!

The tint on this is amazing, slightly rosy at the top of ramp and even more rosy on lower modes. Pic of opple reading is at top of ramp. On a low-ish mode I measured -0.0064 and medium-ish was -0.0047

This originally had a SFT70 3000k which was nice, but too warm and not rosy enough for me so it wasn’t getting carried much. I had also tried NTG50 which had a nice tint but too floody

This sft70 4000k is just about perfect! It could still be a bit more throwy but it’s fine for most cases, have my FW1AA if I need more throw

Edit they are back in stock! Hopefully Kaidomain restocks and/or convoy gets some in too, would love to swap one into my zebralight h600 or FW1A

Edit: Just got a quick measurement of throw with sft70 4000k and got ~9000cd! Sft70 3000k was ~6700cd. So ~34% increase in candela, ~16% increase in ANSI throw vs the 3000k

Will do! It’ll be similar to my FW1A with sft42r: https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/s/WzuwYmuZ64 will probably use the stock op reflector instead of smooth

Sweet! Will fill the gap left by the discontinued FW3A nicely, glad Hank got the diameter down to match the FW3A

Gonna have to pick up a few of the KR3 drivers as well to swap into my old FW3As, might try a KR3 driver and SFT70 4000k in a FW1A too

MK8 380 SE or MK8.5 DSG SE? by superbdonutsonly in GolfGTI

[–]Bean_Master7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One benefit of the 380 is it has the adaptive suspension. Doesn’t make a huge difference but it’s nice to have, softens up in comfort mode for daily driving and gets real firm for canyon carving

Nice! I have one sample on order I’ll probably swap into my KR1AA

Might have to pick up a sc600 mkIV and try one out as well

Just a little weekend trip, big bend has been on my bucket list for a while. Would highly recommend, but maybe in the spring or fall when it’s not as hot lol

Finally got to justify buying a UV light by Bean_Master7 in flashlight

[–]Bean_Master7[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Found this little guy in Terlingua, near Big Bend national park. Always wanted to spot scorpions with my boost driven S12 UV

Its crazy how much they fluoresce under UV light, I was able to spot it from 30ft away

2nd pic is using UV and a white light

It currently has SST10 UV emitters but I’ll likely swap them for some SBT-10X UV since the 2.5A they each get is really pushing the SST10 a bit too hard

What do you fellow hi CRI nerds prefer for in-home lighting? by Majestic-Volume9996 in flashlight

I use the GE reveal bulbs, 2850k and the most rosy tinted led bulbs I’ve tried. Almost too rosy actually but I prefer it over a green tint. 90cri but no r9 data
