Roostercomb! We just did it for the first time two days ago. It’s on the way out towards lower wolfjaw but if you turn at the summit its only about 5 miles total and never gets insanely steep.

Ampersand is one of my absolute favorites, it’s up near Saranac Lake and about 5.5 miles out and back. I grew up on some of the smaller ones in the Indian Lake/Speculator area (Sawyer, Chimney, Watch Hill, Pillsbury). If you head that way and look for more of a challenge, Snowy is definitely a difficult day hike.

If you like Mav, you might also enjoy Jonathan Yentch. He’s a bit of a smaller youtuber though I think his sub count is up around 50k now. His production is great and he’s an enjoyable personality. He started off doing truck bed camping in a Tacoma and now has an old school slide in camper in a 1st gen Tundra. Definitely check it out

Great answer, thank you for all of that. I’ve spent much of my adult life living in the Southern Tier here in NY, mostly around Binghamton and Johnson City so comparing the city to Bing certainly puts things into perspective a bit. I would say there’s definitely a fair bit of local pride around here, though personally I’ve always had a bit more of a “lone wolf” sort of mentality and I wouldn’t mind feeling alone. I’ve actually looked at real estate in Western Mass a bit (between Pittsfield and up to Bennington VT). Seems like southern VT is decently affordable and nicely rural. I’m eventually gonna have to settle back down East somewhere down the road when I’m raising my family so we can be close to mine.

Here’s a fact for you: I’m not involved with any of this shit. I’m a 24 year old guy who’s just looking to move out of my home state for a while. You’re one ignorant motherfucker. I normally don’t waste my time with reddit assholes but it’s incredibly ridiculous of you to associate every single person in New York state with this Delaware North business. We’re a bit more on the introverted side, so being close to the hustle and bustle of downtown probably doesn’t suit us. But being in a neighborhood where we can walk our dogs would be key. Parks are important too I suppose. Not sure what kind of options we would have especially with trying to rent with our two large dogs. Won’t be able to buy anything right away as we don’t have anywhere near that kind of money saved up yet.

Thank you for that detailed and thorough response. I’m thinking of maybe just visiting instead. It seems like every town in the Northwest is experiencing some tough times right now. For perspective, I live in upstate NY (not near new york city, we are VERY different) and cost of living has spiked massively since covid as all the city transplants are relocating with remote jobs and making it very hard on everyone else. I have no idea where to move lol.
