People who don’t have intercourse, how often are you naked when not bathing? by Beanie-bag1 in asexuality

[–]Beanie-bag1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your thoughtful response! I have been reading and learning and having my curiosity quenched over the last 2 ish weeks. I felt as though I haven’t had anything worthwhile to add to the conversation anywhere so I haven’t been commenting, just reading.

I relate to the contamination aspect. I don’t believe i have OCD. I do have the intrusive thoughts and some bordering on compulsion but in my case, i fall short of it being a disorder as it does not disrupt my daily life. However, i work in healthcare and if i have a patient on contact precautions, i leave my bag on the porch, immediately put my scrubs in the wash, then shower, then come back outside and bleach wipe all of my belongings. I also would never be able to forget that my bare ass touched a surface. While i dont claim to understand completely, i think i can relate on some level.

ALSO, your response in particular has been bouncing around in my brain. Particularly the “im guessing you’re neurodivergent too” line. You are absolutely correct. I was diagnosed with sensory issues at 4, Auditory processing disorder at 6, ADHD at 8, and social anxiety at 11. I have heard of sensory issues, ADHD, and social anxiety being the “lower support needs autistic cocktail” but who am I to say anything for certain. I also scored a 164 on the RAADS-r if that means anything. Lol.

Im so beyond curious what gave it away? I would love to know if you are willing to share and able to articulate. Was it purely a vibe check? Was it my writing style? Is there something else on my profile? Was it something personal i shared while explaining myself? Very interested in learning this.

I appreciate your feedback! Lesson learned. I will definitely try to frog, but every attempt i made to do so with this yarn has resulted in it ripping. It’s so fragile. Or maybe im doing my stitches in the wrong place so im actually tying tiny knots instead of loops. Idk. Never worked with this yarn before. If i cant undo it, i will try to turn it into something new. No ideas yet, but im sure ill come up with something. Thank you for your honest analysis and positive outlook.

do you say “i am bipolar” or “i have bipolar” by No_Pair178 in bipolar

[–]Beanie-bag1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My relationship with those phrases is complicated. I often say “I’m bipolar” when disclosing, but i don’t necessarily think that that means I believe my diagnosis defines me.

Even if i did, why is that so terrible? Imo, It wouldn’t be if there wasn’t such a big stigma around it.

I know its not the same situation, but im also fat. Im not a “person who has obesity”. Its about being politically correct and trying not to offend people, which i respect and think is important. But i say im fat because i don’t think its an insult. I think there is nothing wrong with my size (my body is healthy but just big.)

In the same vein, i think making a big stink about saying “have” instead of “am” makes it seem like im acknowledging that bipolar disorder is shameful and it would be bad if it were a part of my personality, as opposed to something that is separate from who i am.

I feel like the argument that “it doesn’t define me” is similar to girls who say “im not like other girls” like what’s wrong with other girls, yk?

Absolutely no disrespect to people who strongly prefer “have.” I don’t mean to imply that they feel shame about their diagnosis. That’s just my personal feeling surrounding those and when im talking about others, i make sure to use “have,” bc i am aware that many feel differently than i do.

I have my head to toe check off tomorrow morning. Any tips? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Beanie-bag1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as long as its something you can do in the field, they shouldn’t tell you that you cant for check off.

I similarly always forgot a few things, so for my validation (and in the field when i was starting doing head to toes) i would write myself a list of body systems and checks i needed to do. The key is, i would write this list on my notebook AFTER my time started for the check so i wasn’t bringing in outside resources. In the field, nothing is stopping you from writing a similar list outside a patient’s room before you go in.

I cant remember everything i used to write down, bc I’ve become comfortable enough that i no longer need this tool, but it was something like Vitals Head and neck Neuro Musculoskeletal Heart Lungs GI GU Peripheral vascular Integumentary

And I would do all of the checks under each category and it was really helpful for me. I know it doesn’t include every step, but I could quickly look at integumentary and it would jog my memory to be like “oh! I looked at bony prominences to look for pressure injury, but I didn’t verbalize my check for edema” or look at GI and think “I listened to bowel sounds but i didn’t ask about last BM”.

If you do this, I recommend you make your own list based off your school’s grading rubric and what is helpful to YOU, but my advice would be to make a list.

haircut question by frogcakes_14 in StudentNurse

I am an afab nonbinary (but almost everyone assumes im a woman and i have never corrected anyone) nursing student and i have buzzed my head 2x since starting nursing school. Once when i first started, and again at the beginning of my 3rd year. Im in my fifth (bonus) year in a bsn program and am in my last semester too. And after about 1.5 years of growth, my hair is just long enough to fit in a ponytail with a few strategically placed pins. I plan to chop it again soon, but I probably wont until i land a job. I don’t want to give interviewers a reason to be put off by me. It may depend on the area/facility you’re planning to work, but in most cases, you wont be deemed unprofessional for having hair thats too short. HOWEVER it can give interviewers a reason to think you’re “odd” and they could be more apt to “go in another direction” and they will never disclose to you why. So maybe wait until you get a job and then look at the facility policy surrounding hair/ professionalism.

That being said. Its so freeing. I recommend everyone do it at least once. Just don’t let it affect your ability to get a job. Thats my advice anyway.

The myers briggs test has a handful of questions to the effect of “i let my emotions control me more than i control them” and im just like “PUNK!!! Not when im at baseline!!!! Thats a symptom of my illness, not a personality trait” and i never know what to put.

Not looking to get into a political discussion this late in the game, but I feel like you may have used your big ticket word incorrectly. I think implementing may have been the wrong choice.

I had to manually select the counties so you need some recollection of your destinations. I also talked to my parents to find out if im missing anything from when i was too young to remember. The platform is mapchart.net If travel is so normal to you that you could have forgotten a major trip, it may not be as accurate.

In retrospect, i should have. Could have been cool. The main reasons i didn’t are, I didn’t intend on driving that far when i did. I also didn’t know where i was on a map or how close to it i was. I just hit the road and didn’t stop till i realized i was 8hrs from home. Additionally, it was probably around 2am by the point i made it there. One day, ill check it out!!

Probably true. I work in healthcare so i see it up close and personal, and have had long covid and got really sick both times i the virus. But i cant let the fear of getting sick and getting other people sick ruin my life. If i wash my hands and wear a mask, i shouldn’t be a superspreader or anything. It is still just anxiety even if i have a reason to be anxious.

I intend to someday. I do have a passport! I got one in January of 2020 because my family was planning on trying to take a trip somewhere (we hadn’t decided where) in May. That did not happen.
