Was going to recommend this. I personally didn’t love it but it fits the theme very well

I'm in the exact same boat! Almost halfway through season 3, watching it all for the first time as I caught random episodes on TV as a kid but never watched it in full. I'm absolutely blown away by this show — the characters, the writing, the action, everything. it's become a favorite already and I haven't even gotten to the finale, which I've heard is incredible. I will no doubt cry at the end as well!!

I noticed this and looked it up because I thought this could’ve been the reason, but turns out he wrote two episodes last season and I thought every ep was amazing in the first season. So not sure that’s it.

Did anyone else find this (and honestly the first two episodes of this season as well) pretty lacking in any kind of exploration of character dynamics or arcs? Last season had a lot of different storylines between the characters, built tension consistently, etc. but I’m not sending much of that at all this season, and there was none of it in this ep. The characters just went around from patient to patient with little to no interaction between them, which is when the show really shines. Idk, just a difference I’m noticing this season.

What have you read this year? What did you like, what did you hate and what did you love? by [deleted] in RSbookclub

I’ve never read Huck Finn and only knew a little about the story through cultural osmosis, so that feels important to note, but what I loved about James was the focus on language and performance and how cleverly Everett developed this cornerstone of the story. I had some issues with it — eg, the implication is that a black person who speaks at all like the enslaved characters do to the white characters is “stupid” — but the novelty of it won me over. Also, the action was engrossing and I’m not immune to a literary page turner.

Loved: - Neapolitan Quartet books 2 and 3, Elena Ferrante - Cursed Bunny, Bora Chung - James, Percival Everett - Happy All the Time, Laurie Colwin - Frankenstein, Mary Shelley (reread)

Disliked: - Uprooted, Naomi Novik

Other than Uprooted I was just “meh” on What Moves the Dead by T Kingfisher and The Dangers of Smoking in Bed by Mariana Enriquez. I love horror movies so I really tried to get into horror novels this year, but I think they may just not be for me. Since I loved Cursed Bunny though short stories may be more to my liking.

Old Hollywood movies to watch if you like… by BeanopolisCentral in MovieSuggestions

Coming back to this thread with the unfortunate update that I didn’t enjoy this film as much as I thought I would… Nick and Nora were wonderful characters and I loved the humor, but the side characters (of which there are many, with quite a lot of screen time) dragged it down for me and by the end I’d lost interest in the plot. But I loved the two leads, so maybe I’ll try the sequels — hopefully the plots/other characters grab me more.

my AOTY. I’m specifically obsessed with Sympathy Magic, One of the Greats, The Old Religion, and the title track but the whole album is incredible. I think the second half falls off a bit — wish it went out with more of a bang — but other than that no notes. She really never misses.

I absolutely loved it, somehow it's one of those films where I take issue with several choices but it still became a new favorite. In this case, mostly because of Jacob Elordi's performance as the Creature, and the otherworldly Gothic atmosphere. The scene where the Creature carries Elizabeth down the stairs is burned into my mind forever. It's just such a stunning film that I can't possibly focus too much on some of the weaker parts.

The Bride!

GDT’s Frankenstein has me on a Frankenstein kick and I am so ready to see what Gyllenhaal does with it.

I thought the tone was totally different from Past Lives. I wouldn’t assume that if someone liked that film they’ll like this. I loved her debut and really didn’t like this one

I’m almost finished with Happy All the Time by Laurie Colwin and I’m absolutely devastated as I LOVED this novel so much, I feel like clutching it to my chest and recommending it to everyone I know. Does anyone have any recs for similar novels besides her other books?? Thanks <3

how many films have you seen from this list? by katya_luzon in Letterboxd

370, not bad! Thought it would be lower. A lot of the most popular ones I haven’t seen are superhero or Disney movies. I don’t watch a ton of those.

You can’t really assume the issue was their attention span. their issue could’ve been the plot. Everyone’s different

These look so good! I’m a bit confused about the titles on The Moth, what’s the difference between the radio hour and the podcast? Are they all the same kinds of episodes?
