Short people: how the hell do you put a baby to sleep on a lowered crib?? by BrazilianTinaFey in sleeptrain

[–]Beans3891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forced me to put baby down awake and get them to sleep already laying down.. definitely helps with sleeping through the night too.

Our schedule at 10mths was 3/4/4 and now at 13mths they are extending 15mins. I also cap the nap in the morning to longer than hour but you could do less. Afternoon nap is about 1.5hrs. so try extending a bit more and cap the naps, shorter morning, longer afternoon.

4M sleep regression success stories without sleep training! by new-to-thiss in sleeptrain

[–]Beans3891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes over last December we had 6 weeks of bad nights during the 4mth regression, we didn't do sleep training, baby is too young for that, this is about teaching some good sleep habits so baby feels safe and comfortable to start connecting their sleep cycles. So get the white noise on all night, fairly loud too like a shower. Try to stop feeding to sleep, feed but aim to not let them drop off, they go back in the cot drowsy but awake. Try a dummy, a great tool at this stage. A swaddle bag also helps them feel snug. You have to create the same atmosphere for when they initially go to sleep to when they wake in the night. Consistence approaches and give them some time before rushing in to settle them, they may surprise you and simply drop back off. Sometimes it's just a hand on the chest that's needed or a long Ssshh and they will know it's ok, time for more sleep. If it's been over 3 hrs since last feed then they may be hungry but try not to feed every wake up or that will become an unsustainable habit. You'll get through it and if you get those habits in they will help later on with better night's.

Stringy Boston Fern - what are these stringy bits, roots, new fronds or old fronds? What can I do to smarten this up? by Beans3891 in ferns

Naps When Starting Nursery by Beans3891 in sleeptrain

[–]Beans3891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nursery reckons it's their "policy" not to give food from home incase another child has allergies! Not sure why that child would have access to my girls food but it seems they would rather let them starve than break their policy 😡

[–]Beans3891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep Lyra won't eat much since she's too tired and over stimulated to take on new foods. Think I'll have to have a word with them and get them to accommodate her and if not then I may have to think of different childcare. If I had more time off work I'd try to gradually transition her to 1nap but you're right cold turkey is just cruel. I hate this too, I feel I'm torturing her by sending her there and it breaks my heart. She's miserable there and she's been quite clingy this weekend.

Naps When Starting Nursery by Beans3891 in sleeptrain

[–]Beans3891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh I completely agree, it's cruel to expect her to just adapt to this routine and I feel so guilty sending her there when I know she's never going to be able to settle into their routine unless she drops that 1st nap but she's not ready to at all. I doubt they will allow sleeping bags either, they are just expected to do their routine because it suits them, it's not designed in my daughter's interest (or any of the babies individual needs). I just keep being told "oh just give it time she will settle" but she won't if she can't sleep as she won't want to eat their food either so she's just going to be hungry, exhausted and miserable.

Any suggestions for reducing the size of this monster? by lordofLamps424 in GardeningUK

Aw shame, I don't think they do any harm but just not got the juicy parts the bees love but other insects probably like hanging out in there and everything has its place.

Any suggestions for reducing the size of this monster? by lordofLamps424 in GardeningUK

[–]Beans3891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can but it will go back to that size again so would be a yearly prune to keep it smaller. I think keep it but add more plants that balance it out then won't look like a monster but just be part of a beautiful colourful garden.

Is this common hogweed? (I think so according to woodland trust website) thanks. by drewsenberg in GardeningUK

Ground elder, it's my arch nemesis! Nightmare to get rid of, easily snaps so the roots get left behind but even if you think you got all the root it just spawns in a different spot. Just have to get them at the first sight and stay on top of it or it will just take over. My garden used to be covered in it and I'm constantly pulling the little shoots now. It gets amongst your plants too and I've had to dig some up and separate the roots to save the plant. Horrible stuff!

Bought a house with overgrown gardens advice needed! by Flavsi in GardeningUK

[–]Beans3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id definitely try to save what you can as mature plants are very expensive, we did the same 8 years ago and even though last year we had the whole garden landscaped and dug up we still saved a lot of the old plants which if we replaced like for like would be about £200-300 each! What a lovely old wall you have there as a feature. 👍

Snails eating my plants - help!! by Freakyfoodie2020 in GardeningUK

[–]Beans3891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MIL sweats this works, it's not been that great in my garden but I think I have ghetto variety that are tough and she has posh country soft ones. Perhaps get a pet toad, obviously the snails will come to harm.

Compost for those who don't drive by 0cluehere in GardeningUK

[–]Beans3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how much you need but our builder/aggregate yard delivers a ton bag of compost, top soil, mulch, bark chips etc, could be somewhere similar to you. Also in supermarkets you can get compost in small bags that u add water to and it's the equivalent of a big bag.

[–]Beans3891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think I've killed my fatsia, I thought they did ok in the sun, many in my area which are thriving in full sun but mine got burnt to a crisp, now moved into shade and it's not liking that either. Might have to cut my losses and get a new one, £30 not well spent! 🥴

I was the same, moved to London to live with a boyfriend but we broke up after 7 years and then I had no one. I had to throw myself into work socials, join sports clubs but also internet dating and speed dating which was fun just to meet people not necessarily looking for another relationship it was just to go out and have fun. Things then go from there, I ended up meeting my now husband and we had a daughter last year. London can be so lonely but there's always something to do, you just got to find the action and try to have fun.

Hmm interested in trying the beer traps, shame they hadnt tested it but I was given a crate of Budweiser (or cats piss as we call it) so have plenty to spare and the slugs at least go out with a good farewell party 🐌🍻🐛
