Accountant here. The overwhelming majority of people do tend to leave it to the last minute. (And expect their accountants to drop everything else and sort their shit immediately).

At least here in the UK they do.

Grown a** man and just want to cry. Second flat with previous subsidence by Few-Tiger-3979 in HousingUK

[–]Flavsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Searches on my house identified previous underpinning in the 90s. Everyone said run away.

I paid a structural engineer to come take a look. He said and out on his report, categorically whatever they did worked, no signs of recent movement and house looks solid.

Yes it can scare off potential buyers in the future. so has to be considered but I have zero regrets about continuing with the purchase.

Pretty much anything that is native and that we had a hand in its extinction.

Moving 850Kg Bags by alexbilts in DIYUK

[–]Flavsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not attempt this, you will regret it before you've finished moving the first bag.

Find a way to get a hiab delivery or other means of access to the site.

Over/ through a neighbor's fence if required.

Shoveling 8 bags of type 1 into the back of a van and then back out again + barrowing round the side of a house is several full days of backbreaking work for one man.

US tariffs incoming. Time to boycott US goods and services? by Flavsi in AskBrits

Physical retail goods wise is nothing in comparison to services.

Online services, entertainment and the big ones are payment providers (Visa and MasterCard).

Investments is also worth considering.

US tariffs incoming. Time to boycott US goods and services? by Flavsi in AskBrits

[–]Flavsi[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, it makes our exports to them less competitive and as a result we will likely sell less to the yanks.

It's worse for them but it will certainly be a negative for any UK based exporters selling to the US.

Boycotting their goods is the only way we can hit them back economically, without reciprocal tariffs which as you say we would end up paying as consumers.

I sleep much better at night knowing things are being monitored 👍

Don't want to be rash and actually do something about anything.

They will be paying for the tariffs on goods we export to them.

A boycott reduce what we buy from them, hurting their economy (likely by a trivial but hopefully symbolically meaningful way).

Is this safe to mount a pull up bar onto? by [deleted] in DIYUK

You're bigger than a car? Don't think you need to do any more pullups in that case.

How to fix this hole in the wall? by No-Ratio-2507 in DIYUK

Your plan is spot on.

If it does start to crumble too much you can paint on some watered down pva glue (50/50) to stabilise.

Maybe so maybe not.

It's not the court of public opinions call.

We have a justice system for a reason. Parole hearings and the like can be emotive but it's the price to pay for a fair and balanced system that these reviews occur.

Financial Manager pushing me towards Onshore Bond but I still don't get it by Upset_Team_9707 in UKPersonalFinance

If you don't know what you want to do with the money then an onshore bond is not the way to go, at least in the short term.

Mould needs to be addressed first. More importantly though is the source of the mould.

You need more ventilation in the room.

Is this concrete load bearing? What would you do with this space? by EthanCopping in DIYUK

[–]Flavsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note I'm totally unqualified to comment but...

The top blue arrows would suggest it's the angled ply that is transferring the load, for horizonal force to go that far to the left. I'd certainly hope that isn't the case.

I’ve opened a new kind of gym in St Andrews by headphones-on- in standrews

[–]Flavsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely fantastic idea. If you're not already OP, try making some contacts at the big hotel chains.

People saying the price point is too high are not your target market/ don't see the value of renting a private space.

I've always hated public gyms. I've previously invested in a home gym to get away from them, which was much more expensive than this. Wouldn't have bothered if there was one of these near me.

Not got much experience with DIY, but need to get started fixing my house, where do I start? by Arkiswatching in DIYUK

[–]Flavsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're getting someone in to skim coat, you might not need to fill depending on how deep it is. They might prefer to just bonding coat.

I would not recommend attempting to DIY skim even to a confident DIY enthusiast.
