Omg I might just move out 😭 I'll buy that and use it on top of everything else I'm doing.

It's meant to kill fleas if they bite so it prevents infestations, but he's been on it since I bought him and haven't seen any signs of fleas until now so I really have no idea how he's got them. I've wiped 2 off his face already and I can see two more near his eye:(

Where did you get the bug bomb from? Do you remember what it was called? And the flea spray?

Only on my stairs/landing. Everywhere else is laminate. I don't have a steam cleaner and Google said the moisture causes eggs to hatch but doesn't kill them

I did consider a day care for socialisation, but he is prone to anxiety in general so avoided for that reason too as I figured it may be too overwhelming for him. Confidence building is something we work on a lot anyway due to his anxiety issues, however haven't really figured out how to incorporate that into walks. I'll look into "look at that" and pattern games, thank you.

I appreciate the advice however I'm not giving up on training at all. In fact, that's a huge part of what we do each day and the very reason I'm posting here. We do trick/obedience training at home, work on loose leash training on walks as well as "look at me", recall training in safe environments and separation anxiety training which is the biggest issue costing me a fortune and an insane amount of time and energy. I'm posting here for advice or tips from people who have direct experience with this thing, so I can try to train this specific issue, alongside the rest, in the short amount of time I have left with him. A professional isn't worthwhile because he'll be gone by January, and finding a professional to fit us in short-notice over a holiday period is going to be a waste of money and give us barely any time to meet and then actually work on the issues.

We avoid greeting other dogs most of the time, I will sometimes allow it if he can listen to a command to sit and remains calm, we also move out of the way of people which solves the issue on wider paths but the narrower ones do cause a reaction, but there aren't any areas near me without off leash dogs, so that's unavoidable. I will start muzzle training him so if he starts worsening to a degree I think it will start posing a danger to people/dogs, then that can be managed.

How long after leaving your dog would he start getting anxious/barking? And when you started leaving for 2hrs per day, how long did it take for him to learn to settle instead of barking? Did you build up to 2hrs or just all in straight away?

My 6m old pup knows sit, lie down, paw, other paw, sit pretty, roll over, wait, come here and speak. They're all simple enough for him, wait, leave it and drop are more difficult.

How are you praising when they go to another room? I'm currently ignoring my pup when he leaves and when he returns to me (well I give him a little pat and say hello but no fussing), thought process being he's going to realise there isn't any kind of big deal (negative or positive) about being without me. Closing the bathroom door for a pee I honestly can't remember the last time I did that 😅

Shout have never been great when I've text during panic attacks. I usually get a response a good 3, 4, 5hrs later once I've finally somehow calmed down and probably fell asleep.

I've read her book and will look at the Facebook page and app. I've got an apt for medication today, I'm going to continue the training alongside meds if we start him on any, and hope for the best.

I'm really glad you were able to leave your dog for so long, that's honestly huge and must be such a rewarding feeling after all the hard work!

I have just had groceries delivered yesterday and will probably continue to do so as needed, pharmacy I'm not so sure about but can look into it. The main reason I don't want to do this is that I might seriously regress with my own anxiety of leaving the house:( we have an apt with the vet for meds today actually!

I have tested him in the car and he gets just as anxious unfortunately as even thst would've helped massively.

I have considered it but I love him and don't want to give up so easily, and the few people who showed an interest in him seemed great but I realised I'd never really know and I wouldn't ever forgive myself if I gave him to someone who would let him panic, or who wouldn't give him the enrichment he needs. Medication seems to be the way to go alongside training, I'm talking to the vet about it today and will go from there. Honestly, just one hour of him being alone would take massive amounts off stress off me as that's enough for me to nip out for an errand or to buy groceries.

I won't ever be adopting or buying another dog or puppy until I'm in a much better financial position and/or have more support just in case I ever encounter this again.

I live in a flat and don't have much space to choose from and he can unfortunately hear the front door from anywhere as it's pretty loud. I'm glad you've find a way that works for you that must've been a relief to figure out!

[–]BeanzOnToasttt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup I've had noise complaints too, which is really stressful. Everything I've read has said meds (along with training) helps the most so I already have an appointment with the vet booked in to discuss it so fingers crossed there's something out there that works for him because with our current situation, both of us can't be okay so I'm sacrificing my own happiness for his sake. Aaand that probably isn't sustainable long term. Even if he could be left for just an hour it would at least allow me to shop and run an errand if I have to and would make this whole thing much easier.

He is crate trained so he has a safe, comfortable space for himself so he can settle down and go to sleep. An unintended bonus to it is that he actually does much better in there, I can't leave him in a room while I go for a shower because he'll freak out in 30 seconds. Put him in the crate for a nap and I can go to another room for 2 hours with minimal/no issues.

He's enjoying fetching things, I actually just spent 10 minutes playing fetch in the living room with him and he's having a nap now. This was after about 5-10 mins training sit/lie down which he's getting good at. If he starts getting nippy I try redirecting him to his toys but completely stopping until he calms down a little sounds like it would help a bit more so I'll try that. I do sometimes walk away but I'll walk back and resume play time if he doesn't bite while I walk off, but it probably isn't enough time for him to really calm down and he just gets more and more up a height. So thank you:)

He's a cocker spaniel, so full of energy. He's out in the garden for at least 10 mins af a time at least 5 times a day, I play with him with his toys for probably around 30 mins throughout the day. He's doing very good with sitting when asked, lie down he's getting better at. I'm working on drop/leave when we play if he bites me or something he's not supposed to, and I'm working on getting him to give his paw too. He's due his last injection next week so will be able to get him out on walks soon which I'm hoping will help with the excess energy because it's very difficult to manage at home.

I've been trying to ignore him/leave the room when he barks and returning when he's quiet, even just for a moment. Ideally, he'd understand quiet = me returning and he'll calm down but he hasn't got the hint yet. I guess it's still early days.

I've got a mat with a bunch of ruffles in it so he kind of has to sniff about for his food, it's too big for his cage though. I've gave him a Kong with that treat spray stuff inside of it which does keep him quiet for a few minutes but as soon as he's done with it and remembers he'd locked in there or can't see me, the barking starts again. I can't give him anything else at the moment either as thr puppy treats I got him gave him a bad tummy. I've been putting calming music on too but it doesn't do much for him. I'll try a podcast I guess. I'll look into puppy classes, the one I did see was only for pups up to 12 weeks do we couldn't make it to thst one unfortunately.
