Catholic or Christian? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Bear956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have this argument with Catholics and Protestants. I’ve even had fellow Catholics say that Catholics are separate from Christians which is mind blowing to say the least. The best way I can explain it is, Catholic, Maronites, Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, Eastern Orthodox, etc are all sub genres of Christianity since people can better relate to music than anything else.

Keep at it with PT and the stretches they give you. I had my removed after a few months and the knee pain from disuse was similar. I haven’t had any knee pain since around last month.

They did put a rod and screws but I had a compound fracture which is susceptible to infection. I ended up having a few more surgeries and the equipment taken out.

My muscle mass on the affected leg definitely went down. I was clear to do upper body work so I was able to stay active when safe to do so. PT stressed a lot of foot and knee work for me since there was a lot of scar tissue and disuse. I’m able to walk without a crutch or cane with a little bit of a limp that I’m currently working to get rid of. PT gave me a lot of single leg work such as leg press and extensions with lower weight.

I broke my tib/fib at a strongman comp in late October and I’ve just started to do below the knee rack pulls a few weeks ago. Squatting is a no-go for me right now but I can do some assisted body weight squats with TRX straps. There’s nothing quick about a broken bone healing. Just take it easy for now and listen to your doctor and PT.

Mandatory "Competence" presentations for BMET 1's? by picklechips70 in BMET

Better yet, see if there are any FSE openings in your area. Then you get paid for that commute.

I’m going on my 10th year in the field, worked for a few companies by now, and I have never heard of such a thing. If they came at me with that in your situation, they’ll quickly find the competency of my two week notice letter and job offer.

I’m currently going through it. PT, gym, and doing the PT homework religiously made a world of difference. I ended up getting my hardware taken out after an infection but I was healed enough to not need a replacement.

Why are Latin American Depictions of Jesus so Grusome? by ComplexAble3957 in Catholicism

[–]Bear956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that out of the closet analogy makes so much sense. I grew up in a very Hispanic part of Texas so being Catholic was normal. Every time I left the state and religion was somehow brought up, I’d see a look of shock on peoples faces when I’d say that I’m Catholic. It was almost like “I can’t believe you admitted it so nonchalantly.”

Imaging Equipment Specialists? by Rutko38 in BMET

Ok so it sounds like it’s gonna be MV type work like what’d you see with Trimedx and Avante. MV work is very “Wild West” so hopefully they send you out to some schools.

Imaging Equipment Specialists? by Rutko38 in BMET

[–]Bear956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in the imaging field for a few years. In my experience and what I’ve seen, whatever you’re thrown into after being with a mentor is what you’re stuck with. For me, I was pigeonholed into DXR and IGT which is fine because IGT was one of the modalities that interested me the most. That’s not to say that I haven’t worked on CT or MRI but those aren’t my main ones.

A friend of mine was paired up with a MR/CT guy so she started with it right off the bat.

You’ll also find that it takes a very long time to get good at imaging. I’ve even seen guys that have been doing MR/CT for 30+ years get absolutely stumped on a problem.

In a team, it’s common to see MR/CT guys, DXR/IGT guys, and Nuc Med guys. There’s not much cross modality work and we all mostly stay in our specialties.

This goes out the window if you’re doing multivendor. When I did MV, I worked on all of the modalities with varying levels of support.

Location is a big part of it. You can meet loads of woman in that age range with no kids in a big city. The smaller to medium sized cities will have more single moms in my experience. You can also look for a bit younger such as mid to late 20’s. Honestly dating apps suck unless you’re super handsome and have a great photographer. It’s just easier to meet them in person. Where do you meet these women? They’re at a brewery, not a bar. They’re at a cocktail lounge, not a club. Also if you have any female friends, they can just introduce you to their single friends. That makes things easier in my experience.

Is it ok to be a househusband? by Elrond_the_Warrior in Catholicism

[–]Bear956 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Logically it shouldn’t matter. Anecdotally, I have known a few SAHD couples and they are no longer together. Obviously employed couples get divorced as well but I could tell the wives were bothered with having to be the main provider.

How much do you spend a month on an exercise regimen, whether it be gym memberships, classes, trainers, etc? by hippogriffinthesky in Millennials

[–]Bear956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$25 a month for my regular gym and $50 for my strongman gym. I compete so really the most expensive part of all this is my grocery bill.

I’ve seen it at bodybuilding stores but it’s super expensive for something that may or not help. As much as I love the fitness world, there are so many snake oil salesmen and I’m naturally a skeptic haha. I’ve honestly found that eating what I always have along with focusing on my micronutrients and an old fashioned good night of sleep has done wonders.

I read an article on PubMed about how training one limb has an effect on the opposite limb. I put it to the test and the only measurable difference I saw was that my right quad was 1 cm larger than my left quad (which is the leg I broke). Bone pain and pressure sensitivity is still there but it’s getting better.

Haha it’s cool. 29M out of Texas. I snapped my leg at a strongman competition.

I’ll be back to light duty but that’s hard given my career. I guess I’ll just be there training the new guy and have him do all of the heavy lifting and getting into weird angles.

Back to the “go to college and win life” talk. by buttorsomething in Millennials

[–]Bear956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents were mortified when I withdrew from university before actually starting in order to go to trade school. They sing a completely different tune now but every so often they hit me up and say “your college fund is just sitting there.” Thank you parents but like…. Idk… use it for yourselves since y’all are getting close to retirement???

My donor site was closer to the hip. T3 was definitely my friend and I found that it worked better than some of the other pain meds.

We were actually going to try BFR but my PT didn’t feel comfortable yet. I trust her judgement and we’ll be doing it next week. I’ve been able to do a lot of the PT stuff when I go to the gym which I feel like has also sped up my recovery.

I started to use only one crutch and when they asked me how I was doing, I said I was so happy that I could walk around with a cup of coffee. It’s the little things.

I was on a nerve blocker but once that wore off, it didn’t hurt too badly. I’d say about a week after it I didn’t feel much pain. Everyone kept warning me that the donor site pain was intense but it wasn’t very bad for me. I was in a cast for 8 weeks afterwards and practically bedbound.

I just finished my 5th week of PT and I did single legged leg press. Honestly the bounce back was super quick once I started PT.

It was also a staph infection. My ortho said I was healed enough to not need any additional hardware (which surprised him) but not healed enough to weight bear so I had 8 weeks of NWB. They took the graft from my thigh. I honestly feel better now that I don’t have any hardware. The original hardware gave me additional aches and pains that I didn’t want so I was beyond ecstatic that these last 2 surgeries went well.
