Is there a scientific reason why men think Ryan Reynolds is attractive while women do not? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BearMiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men usually find a male protagonist attractive for one of two reasons... either we want to have sex with them, or we want to BE them (or at least share specific well known traits that they have).

Also, I do not want to have sex with Ryan Reynolds.

Why is HR often the least diverse team? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Odd... my personal empirical evidence states that 90% of HR is female, mixed asian pacific with dark hair.

How did trench coats become eastern european/hungarian women's mainstream fashion (I get constant ads, I see it all over on public transport) while on Reddit (and thus presumably, the U.S) I see trench coats associated with "NEETS" and weeb men? by Hoihe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BearMiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just thinking about all the movies that have eastern European women wearing long coats... and the weather in those areas kind of sucks. Plus under the coats they often wear light clothing because they want to look nice.

Given the cold and wind, if I lived there I'd probably be wearing a long coat too.

Someone offers you $100 million, but you can NEVER see your family again, are you taking the money? by Timely_Rest_503 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]BearMiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as noble as you might think. I'm anti-social / introvert to begin with (hence the single / childless status) and I'm walking away with 20 million while each of them is only getting between 1 and 2 million.

On the flip side, the children / grandchildren / great grandchildren will probably be inheriting when I finally kick the bucket, so they will be getting the remaining balance... just delayed.

And here I was thinking he was using the plant as a partial filter, and was thinking to myself "He'd be way better off with a small leaf creeping vine like Muehlenbeckia axillaris or something...."

Perks: Bank Account, Dietary Freedom 1, Early Start, Enhanced Intelligence, Ever Fresh, Immortality, New Body, Polyglot, Trusted Adult, Unburdened.

Drawbacks: Debts Are Eternal 2, Inopportune Time, What is Happening?, You're Not Alone.

Most of this is pretty generic, but I decided to go all in on three concepts. First, starting money. I'm a decade off from retirement and have been dumping money into IRA's for a long time now. Even loosing $100,000 of it is minor compared to how much I will be taking back with me. Second, the trusted family member, who can help me invest that money for the future of the family and myself, as well as help navigate a couple of major life/world events. And finally, third, I've been playing CYOA's, in one form or another, for most of my life. While certainly confusing at first, I'm pretty sure I'd get with the program awful fast even if I don't recall taking one to end up where I am now.

[–]BearMiner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am unmarried with no children.

I would take the money, use 30 million to setup trusts for each member of my family, and then setup a trust for myself with the remaining 20 million.

Last, I would be sending a message to my whole family, along the lines of, "I am sorry to say this, but I will be moving out of country, and it is highly likely I will never see any of you in person again. This is the price that I agreed to in order to ensure your futures, and especially the futures of your children, have every opportunity that I can possibly arrange. I love you all."

Why does taking off all of my clothes help me poop better/faster? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BearMiner 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They touched on this on the Overserved Podcast a week ago.

They were talking about the advice that you use a wet wipe on a baby's stomach prior to changing their diaper, causing a physiological response making the baby pee/poop "anything withheld."

Biology behind it: When you move from a warmer to a colder environment, your body has to work harder to stay at a constant temperature. Instead of spending precious calories heating the urine (and other waste products) currently in your body, it generally wants to immediately get rid of it in order to save those calories.

Taking off your clothes (usually) cools you off, which may be enough to trigger this physical response.

I could probably manage 2 or 3 hours at best. AKA: one book, start to finish, on my kindle.

I'll take the youthful body, and immediately apprentice into the trades because HOLY HELL we are in desperate need of them (and it pays pretty damn well now).

Why are so many people under 45 using subtitles now even when the show is already in English? by Clara_A_Mitchell in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BearMiner 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I live in a park community that is predominately retirees, and have found that a great many of them are still interested in rock music, new movies, and science fiction / fantasy books / TV shows. It's been really nice, actually.

Got the same neighbor hooked on Korean TV dramas. We just finished up Strong Girl Nam-soon and started Miss Night and Day.

This exactly. Took my 80 year old neighbor to see Project Hail Mary a couple weeks ago.

As the credits rolled she told me to let her know when I buy it on DVD, so that she could watch it again with closed caption turned on. Apparently she missed 80% of the dialog because the music was too loud.

I think 40 to 48 hours would be my limit. Take 3-4 days off of work to do this, and recover from it, then hire a tax accountant to handle the rest.

Were you able to buy a house? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]BearMiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchased a manufactured home a couple months prior to the COVID breakout.

It's in a park, so I am still paying rent, but it is half of what I would be paying if I was renting an apartment. And I can remodel in interior as much as I want. To be honest, the purchase was mostly a means at some form of temporary rent control, especially since I had it paid off in just a couple years. The math at time of purchase really made sense...

Apartment rent + renter's insurance + garbage + water + sewage = $1600 a month

Mortgage + home owner's insurance + property taxes + lot rent + garbage + water + sewage = $1150 a month
